Year 2 Week 3

It has been a busy week of learning in Year 2! In religion this week we have been learning about the Sacraments of Initiation. The children looked at the symbols for Baptism, The Eucharist and Confirmation. Inspired by stained glass windows the children created some beautiful artwork.

The children created some wonderful Popplets about the Sacrament of Baptism.

In English we have continued work on adjectives and nouns. The children have been working very hard on their handwriting and everyone should be very proud of their efforts.

‘Think 10’ is the strategy we are using in Mathematics. The children have worked hard applying this strategy when adding and subtracting.

Year 2 Blog Week 2

Our second full week in Year 2 has flown by!

This week in Religion we started our unit – Beginning with the Church. The children thought about what it means to belong and how we make people feel welcome. Year 2 created some very special stained glass butterflies for a school Year of Hope display.

In English we continued work on our poetry unit. The children created some fantastic list poems all about autumn which were full of amazing adjectives. This week enjoyed the story of The Twits by our author of the month. Roald Dahl’s writing is providing us with plenty of great adjectives to use in our own writing.

In Science we created some beautiful natural colour palettes. Nature is full of a wonderful array of colours that change over the course of the year through the four seasons. The children had great fun selecting their colours from all the plants and flowers in the school gardens.

In P.E. this week we had great fun playing different ball games and testing our reactions.

Year 2 Blog Week 1

It has been a busy first week of learning in Year 2. In Religion we thought about our hopes for this new school year and the children created a beautiful display for our sacred space in the classroom.

In Maths we have been looking at number and place value. In English we have been learning about different types of poems. The Year 2 Author of the Month is the very talented Roald Dahl. So far we have enjoyed reading the wonderful Esio Trot and marvelled at the tale of The Magic Finger We have now moved onto FANTASTIC Mr Fox.. We had great fun performing and reciting Roald Dahl’s wonderful poem, The Crocodile and the children created some magnificent Crocky-Wock headbands to wear while performing the poem.

In Science, the children delighted in using the iPads in our school allotments to record all the different parts of a plant.

Thursday 16th July 2020

Good morning Year 2,

Dr. Seuss said it best… ‘Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.’

This is our last day together in Year 2. It has been a privilege and a pleasure being your teacher.

I am very proud of you all. I know that you will all achieve great things in the future!

A big THANK YOU to all the parents for your continued support throughout this year.

Wishing you all a wonderful holiday!

Take care and God bless.

Miss Davey

Prayer Prayer for Thursday 16th July

Prayer for the end of the school year.

At the end of this school year
we give thanks to God:
For all the teaching and learning
that has taken place in our school,
both in and out of the classroom,
For the talents and gifts that have
been shared and the challenges
that have been faced;
For the burdens that have been lifted
and the hurts that have been healed;
For the respect and care that has been given.
We give thanks for the friendships
that have just begun
and for those that have grown.
For the faith that has been lived
in our daily struggles,
For the hope that has lifted
our hearts on the dark days
And for the love that has kept us going.
Bless our families as we take our holidays,
may our time together leave us
with memories to cherish.
Pour out your love on us
that we may return renewed and refreshed
to continue our journey together .
We make this prayer through Christ our Lord.
Amen

Catholic Social Teaching

Last week we explored the principles of Catholic Social Teaching and learnt that the principle of human dignity is the parent principle

The phrase ‘Image of God’ comes from Genesis (1:26 and 1:27) which says that God made humans in God’s own image. “God said, ‘Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.’ So, God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created image.” Gen 1:26, 27

Activities

When the Church writes its official teaching, it writes in Latin.

In Latin the phrase ‘Image of God’ is ‘Imago Dei’. We know that God has no physical body. God is pure spirit, so we can’t actually look like God. But we can be like God in our nature – in the way we act and speak and behave. We can be like God, being creative, not destructive.

The Principles of Catholic Social Teaching remind us how to be like God: how to act and be the image of God. Make some decorative signs that say ‘Imago Dei’ and put them on the mirrors in your house, so that when you look in the mirror and see yourself you are reminded that you are made in God’s image. You will find others if you google images, Imago Dei!
