We don’t like cricket…. oh no.. We LOVE it!

The children have been learning about batting and fielding in their P.E. lessons this week. There was wonderful team-work on display in our Rounders games and a number of home-runs! Everyone really enjoyed their Cricket taster session this week. We loved it and we can’t wait to play some more cricket!

In Maths, we have been learning about fractions of amounts. We have been focusing on three quarters of an amount. The children have worked very well ensuring that when they are sharing out amounts, the amounts are the same.  We had a tasty Maths lesson during the week which involved some chocolate buttons and plenty of fantastic fractions!

In English, we have started planning our own animal adventure stories. We have taken inspiration from The Hodgeheg story. Watch this space!

What an exciting week it has been! The highlight of our week was the visit from Ark Farm! Year 2 enjoyed seeing and petting all the different animals… especially the sleepy hedgehog!

We thoroughly enjoyed this farm experience and we are looking forward to doing our big English write! Year 2 are basing their narrative write on The Hodgeheg by Dick King Smith.

Max is a hedgehog who lives with his family in a nice little home, but it’s on the wrong side of the road from the Park where there’s a beautiful lily pond and plenty of juicy slugs, worms and snails!

The busy road is dangerous but Max is determined to make his way across. If humans can do it, why can’t hedgehogs?

His first attempt ends in a nasty bump on the head and, when Max tries to speak, he realises his words are all mixed up. He is no longer a hedgehog but a hodge-heg!

Everyone delighted in meeting the hodgeheg… I mean the hedgehog …and Year 2 came up with lots of wonderful adjectives to describe the hedgehog!

In Art, we made our own hedgehogs out of clay. We sculpted the bodies of our hedgehogs and we used clay slip to attach the eyes, legs and spikes.

We are an Easter people and Alleluia is our song!
Welcome back! We started our first week back at school with a special assembly to celebrate the Risen Lord.
Well done to everyone for completing the Easter Home Learning project. It was wonderful to see all the beautiful Easter butterflies at the start of the week. We have been celebrating the Risen Lord by creating symbols of new life and retelling the Resurrection story according to the Gospel of St. Mark.
We had lots of fun decorating Easter Egg biscuits and completing the Easter egg hunt.

Year 2 Blog 26-03-2021

As part of our 5 ways to wellbeing, this week we have been focusing on Giving. The children participated in several Lenten charity events organised by the Year 6 House captains.  On Wednesday, Year 2 completed a  Lenten word hunt on the field and afterwards everyone enjoyed a Fairtrade chocolate or banana. On Thursday, the children took part in an obstacle course. Thank you for your generous Lenten donations.

This week we have been learning about the Passion of Jesus according to Mark’s Gospel.  We looked at all events of Holy Week. In Year 2, we focused on the Last Supper. Through Art and Computing, the children created wonderful storyboards of the Last Supper and in English they wrote beautiful retellings.

I look forward to seeing you all next term for plenty of fun and learning.

Did you know that an Axel is a central shaft for a rotating wheel or gear? We have been learning all about wheels and axels as part of our Design and Technology unit of work. The children came up with lots of examples of moving objects that have wheels and axels. We went on a wheel and axel hunt around the school and we were amazed with all the examples that we found. The children planned out their designs for their very own Moon Buggy. They thought carefully about what type of axel they wanted  – free moving or fixed. They chose from a variety of wheels. After making their moon buggies they tested them out and evaluated their designs.

We have continued with our 5 ways to Wellbeing. This week while completing our Golden Miles, we have been noticing all the beautiful blossom. #Blossom Watch 2021

We celebrated The Power of Funny with Comic Relief and Red Nose day. Everyone looked wonderful in RED. We had great fun listening to each others jokes. Well done to Sienna and Fraser for representing Year 2 in the Whole School Joke telling assembly.

Year 2 Blog 12-03-2021

It has been a joyful week in school. It has been wonderful to welcome all the children back into the classroom. We have spent the week focusing on our Wellbeing. We have been learning about the 5 Ways to Wellbeing: Connecting with others, Learning new things, being Active, Noticing the world around us and Giving to others.

We Reconnected as a Year 2 class with a special Act of Worship at the beginning of the week and took time to notice the beautiful signs of spring all around us. We have enjoyed getting active with the Golden Mile.  We have been learning all about inventions and famous inventors for British Science Week, most notably John Boyd Dunlop, the inventor of the pnuematic tyre.

The children brought their favourite characters to life this week as we celebrated World Book Day. All of the costumes were brilliant and it was wonderful to hear the children talking about their characters and books with such enthusiasm.

What a fun and busy week it has been! We had our popcorn at the ready to enjoy the premiere screening of our KS1 Christmas Nativity – Children of the World. We hope you all enjoyed it as well! We couldn’t help but sing along!

It was like a scene out of Santa’s workshop in Year 2 this week. Everybody was busy making their needlepoint designs. We have definitely perfected the running stitch, cross stitch and back stitch!! We also had time for some cooking this week. We washed, peeled, chopped and roasted our allotment potatoes and onions. Simply delicious.

It was wonderful to come together for our special Christmas dinner. Everyone was full of festive cheer. With our glow sticks at the ready, we danced away the afternoon.

As the wonder of Christmas surrounds you, may your spirit be renewed with special joy at the miracle of his birth.

KS1 Nativity 2020

Children of the World.

It has been a joyous week in school. It was lights, camera and action for our KS 1 Christmas Nativity.

Every year, Gabriel and the angels celebrate the birth of Jesus by bringing children from around the world to visit the manger. Travelling from as far afield as China, Australia, Ghana and the Philippines, each group is brought to the stable where they tell of their special Christmas customs, singing songs and presenting gifts.

Year 2 along with Year 1, acted, sang and danced brilliantly and they should all be very proud of themselves.

The premiere of our KS1 Christmas Nativity film takes place on Monday 14th December at 2pm on the Year 2 Class blog! Don’t forget to tune in then!

There was great excitement in school today as we had a very special visit from Santa Claus! Everyone looked very festive in their Christmas Jumpers!

Well done to all the children for their hard work this week. No Home Learning!

This week was National Tree Week!

Year 2 have been learning how trees are a very important part of our ecosystem. They take in carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and put out oxygen. We thought of all the kinds of wildlife, like birds, bugs, and squirrels as well as other kinds of plants that live in or on trees. Without trees, countless animals would lose their homes or sources of food. Year 2  decided to do some wonderful observational drawings of the trees in our Peace Garden.

In Geography, the children worked together to create their own models of a waterfall. We used the Victoria Falls in Zambia as our inspiration.

The children also compared the weather and climate of Antarctica with Zambia and then created a beautiful Antarctic scene complete with Emperor Penguins.
