Friday, 19th May 2023

This week, the children in Year 4 celebrated  ‘Spirituality week’, focusing on our daily journeys with Jesus. On Monday, the class wrote a prayer for our prayer partners in Year 1. Later, we met in the Peace Garden and read our prayers to each other. On Tuesday, we looked at prayer and completed an activity titled, ‘praying in colours’ thinking of different titles we have for Jesus . On Wednesday, we went on a nature walk to appreciate God’s Creation. On Thursday, we walked to Church to celebrate Mass and then walked through the peace garden at church. In the afternoon, the children took part in some prayer stations led by the Year 5 children.

In Maths, the children moved on from their fraction learning to formal written multiplication. They revised mental strategies and known facts before moving onto the procedure, aligning their place value correctly.

In English, the class have written their final explanation texts, using causal conjunctions and fronted adverbials, sequencing their explanation logically. They have edited them and written them up in the neatest before adding their labelled diagrams.

In PE, we looked at serve this week and carried on practicing different hits.

In D&T, the children used fireproof lantern paper to start creating their electric bedside-lanterns. They incorporated different techniques and lines to  create a really imaginative and personal pattern. We will start building our circuits and switches next week, to complete the design.

Have a lovely weekend,

Ms Varga

Reception Week Beginning 15.5.23

This week, Reception have joined the rest of the school in participating in Spirituality Week. The focus for this week has been Walking with Jesus.

On Monday, the class wrote prayers for the children in Year 5 and gave them to them in the afternoon.

On Tuesday, the children took part in a beautiful, prayerful activity called Praying in Colour. We have never seen the Reception children so quiet and reflective!

On Wednesday, the class went on a walk around the field. They were encouraged to be silent and ‘notice’ God’s creation all around them. The children were asked: What can you hear? What can you smell? What can you see? The class finished with some time in the peace garden, where they were delighted to find that a pair of blue tits had built their nest in one of the bird boxes. They were amazed to see how frequently they brought back food for their young!

On Thursday, Reception took part in the wonderful prayer stations led by Year 5.

On Friday, the class took part in a guided meditation sessions, focussed on meeting Jesus. The children were so impressive doing this and one child even fell asleep!

We are looking forward to seeing you at the Pentecost Celebration next week!

Have a lovely weekend,

The Reception Team

On Thursday, they reflected at the prayer stations which were led by Year 5. On Friday, they all met in a morning assembly to reflect on their Spirituality Week. Thank you to Miss Donatantonio for organising all the activities and resources for the week.

Year 5 – 19/05/23 – Spirituality Week

This week has been Spirituality Week, for which the focus has been Walking with Jesus.

On Monday, the children wrote prayers to Reception prayer partners and enjoyed exchanging the prayer cards with them:

On Tuesday, the class spent time Praying in Colour, which is a beautifully free and visual way to spend time talking to Jesus.

On Wednesday, we went for a sensory nature walk around the school grounds, focusing on the different textures in our natural world, and on the sounds that could be heard around us. It was really peaceful and made us appreciate the variety of interesting textures in God’s creation.

Thursday was an important day for Year 5, as they led the Spirituality Prayer Stations over the course of the day for the younger year groups. This gave them their first proper taste of what Y6 leadership will look like, and I was really proud of how well they took on their roles.

Also this week in Geography, Y5 made models on fold mountains; Mrs McDonald was extremely impressed with the variety of ways the class came up with to demonstrate how fold mountains are formed.

Bawdsey Manor Day 3

Well the day has been a busy one again with the children enjoying the lovely sunny weather!

Today, the activities have included canoeing, rifle shooting, buggy building and challenge course.

The children enjoyed their last ‘wet’ activity with their instructor in the beautiful lake in Bawdsey Manor this morning.  The lake has been newly constructed and our school was one of the first schools this week to experience this new activity on the itinerary.  The children were taught the importance of:  getting in and out of a canoe, holding the paddle, understanding steering, going straight, forward stroke and forward sweep. to name but a few! In the evening,  the children took part in ‘capture the flag’ activity and returned to their dorms via the Manor House and various tunnels that are built around it.  The view down to the beach is breathtaking….something we are going to explore more of over the next few days.

Thank you to Mrs Carey who has been so kind to message all parents via their group whats app the photos of our stay.

We hope that you enjoy gaining an insight into the many activities the children have been participating in over this week.

Watch out for Thursdays post!

Mrs McNamara, Mrs Heymoz, Lorcan Keller, Mrs Lopez.

Friday 12th May

Dear Parents

Here are some of the photos from our Coronation Celebrations last week.  Please click here.

This week has been busy with the children doing their SATs.  A huge well done to our class who have worked their socks off this week.  Well done to all of them!

They had a special surprise this afternoon….a special cake was made for them by Lisa and Emma who are part of our Herts Catering Staff which they enjoyed immensely.

They received their Year 6 hoodies is afternoon also – thank you to Violet’s mum and Dad and Finn’s mum for coming into school and handing these out.

Enjoy your weekend.

We look forward to  seeing you on Monday morning with suitcases in tow ready for the exciting week ahead in Bawdsey Manor!

Summer 1 Week 4

This week the children have been multiplying a two digit number by a one-digit number using regrouping and short multiplication. The children have worked hard to develop their skills and it is wonderful to see the children practising their timetables at home.

In English, we have started a new topic about adventure stories. We watched a video clip of an adventure story called ‘Taking Flight.’ Each day we have watched a little part of the clip and the children have been excited to watch the next part each day. We are learning about how adventure stories are page turners, they make you want to read more to find out what happens next. They have been writing expanded noun phrases and prepositional phrases to describe the characters. They have also been using a thesaurus to find synonyms for words to make their writing interesting.

In Religion, we listened to Luke’s recount of Pentecost and then rewrote the story in our own words. Then they made flames to represent the Holy Spirit using coloured paper.

In PE, the children continued their lessons of Tennis. On Wednesday they learn how to play rounders and develop their teamwork skills.

Eight children from our class took part in the first Year 3 challenge. Out of 200 schools, our two teams came 18th and 23rd. One team will compete in the final at the end of May. Well done to Emily, Brody, Jayden, Emilia, Jack F, Gabriella, Oliver and Mark!
