Week 6

We’ve had an action packed week in Y3! During RE we have looked at the symbols and actions used during Mass, while in Maths we have been estimating where to place numbers on number lines. Next week we will be looking at units of measurement.

We have used various painting techniques to create beautiful mountain and river paintings. I have been very impressed with the control the children have shown when painting. I am also really pleased with the story writing in Y3 this week – they have included prepositions, adjectives, noun phrases and verbs to interest the readers attention – well done Y3.

Week 5

This week is Healthy Eating Week and as part of our science learning we have investigated the importance of staying hydrated and tasted water infused with cucumber or lemon to encourage us to drink more – lemon was the most popular choice in Y3. We enjoyed moving and being active together this week, running, dancing, beat the teacher PE challenges  and karate and had lots of fun creating bar graphs that show which fruit and vegetables we have eaten each day. Now we understand that we should try to ‘eat a rainbow’ in order to stay healthy. We also celebrated kindness in the class and enjoyed some delicious banana bread made with whole grain flour.

In maths this week, we have been ordering and comparing numbers, while during fluency we have been balancing equations:

> means greater than.   56 > 45

< means less than. 45 < 56

= means the same as or equal to 4 + 2 = 5 + 1. This is also a balanced equation.

In English, we have written very exciting descriptive paragraphs about the character Stickman falling into a river! We have worked hard to include prepositions and interesting verbs to catch the readers attention. We will continue these stories next week.

Please look out for awards in the Newsletter!

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Pringle

Week 3

This week we have built on our understanding of Place Value and investigated different ways of building and drawing three digit numbers.  We have also played 100 square dice games using our addition and subtraction.

In English we wrote descriptive paragraphs and explored extending sentences by using conjunctions. We visited Mimmshall Brook on Thursday to inspire our writing over the next few weeks.

During PE we have developed our team work and problem solving skills, whilst in Science we identified what animals including humans need to be healthy.

I am very pleased with the children; they are following our Mission Prayer and trying their best.

Week 2

Our first full week back at school in Year 3  has been a very busy one. We have welcomed Moini, Julia and Naomi to our class and pray for those who have left Pope Paul.

We have written interesting sentences using adjectives and questions in English and everyone is working hard on their handwriting and presentation.

In Maths, we have used  Dienes equipment, number fans, bead strings and written models to represent 2 and 3 digit numbers. We have also continued learning to count in 3s from 0.

During Science we have investigated what plants need to grow and why it is important to remove weeds.

Our chest and bounce passes have really improved this week in P.E. and we have played lots of different games to develop our running and dodging skills.

Home learning –  to be completed by next Wednesday please.

This evening I have sent home a blue folder containing your child’s passwords, a book list, a handwriting/spelling sheet and a copy of our cursive letter formation.

The spellings on the handwriting sheet are to be traced and then copied. The children will be tested on these words next Friday so please revise them at home and use this link to practice https://spellingframe.co.uk/spelling-rule/22/19-Words-with-the-sound-spelt-ei-eigh-or-ey

I have set mathletics and would like your child to read for 10 – 15 minutes a daily. Please sign their reading record and return their books and records every Thursday. They may log onto read theory and complete one of the comprehension quizzes on there also, but this is optional.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Pringle
