Wow Year 6! You well and truly outdid yourselves last night! That was a phenomenal performance of We Go Together, with each of you acting, singing and dancing your hearts out. Thank you for giving it your everything and for putting on an unforgettable night. I will certainly always remember that performance.
It has been a very busy week in Year 5! The main highlight had to be our Pilgrimage to Aylesford Priory. On arrival, we were given a tour by a Carmelite Friar where we saw beautiful chapels and peaceful surroundings. Fr Francis spoke about the history of the friary and pointed out a stone that had been blessed by St Paul VI. After our tour, we took part in mass. The children sang beautifully and were reverent throughout. It was then time for lunch where we could enjoy the beautiful weather. Our final activity of the day saw us thinking about our house saints as leaders, and how year 5 could use their example to lead the school in Year 6. The children behaved wonderfully and were commended by a member of the public who was visiting. Well done, Year 5. We would like to thank Michael for visiting us during the week to prepare for our visit and reflect on it after. We would also like to thank Fr Shaun for organising the pilgrimage.
This afternoon we were visited by science ambassadors from Dame Alice Owen’s school. We took part in practical investigations that taught us about what conditions in space are like and how we protect ourselves from UV rays.
Well done to our guitarists who performed for us this morning. It is always wonderful to hear the progress they are making.
There is no home learning this week. I hope to see you all at the strawberry fayre.

We have been keen gardeners this week, ensuring our potatoes and sunflowers are watered and weeded. We have also created Bible Story Boxes in D&t and used them to retell the parable of the Good Samaritan. Sadly we said goodbye to Miss Rolle on Wednesday but we wish her well in her first teaching post this September.
No home learning has been set across the school this week – we hope you enjoy the Strawberry Fayre.
This week has been full of investigations, starting with two detectives visiting our school to help us investigate and solve a crime. We learnt how to take and analyse fingerprints. We also learnt about graphology (handwriting analysis) and that the police have the sole of every shoe made in the UK. The class worked brilliantly together and used the evidence to successfully convict Mrs McNamara!
We have also estimated and investigated weight – converting grams and kilograms. In science we have been learning about our skeleton and muscles. Today we made predictions about the relationship between our height and the distance we can jump,we then investigated this and will be analyzing the results on a graph next week.
Thank you for the junk modelling materials, we will start our models next week so please keep sending the donations coming in.
We are also enjoying reading to reception and are looking forward to planting our sunflower seeds in our class garden.

Reading – Please read with your child and ask them to write their own reflections about what they have read in their reading records.
Maths – We are ng about grams and kilograms at the moment and it would be great if you could estimate, weigh or cook with your child to apply these skills.
This week the children have written and illustrated wonderful poems about The Iron Man.
We have explored food types and how to keep healthy in Science and in Topic we have learnt about and created our own Egyptian Cartouche’s.
The children have also been learning what it means to be virtuous in RE and have carried out good deeds in other classes, including reading to reception and making book marks for everyone in year 4.
It was lovely to see so many people at the Adoration Mass on Friday, the children were very reverent.
Next week we will be making models and collages of The Iron Man – if possible please could your child bring in a cardboard box or tube as well as some newspaper. Thank you in advance.

This week the children have continued with their Roman Topic looking at why the Romans invaded Britain and learning about Boudica. They have studied sources of evidence about her and have made excellent interpretations of what she may have looked like.
In Maths, the children have continued to focus on the 12 and 24 hour time notation using the stimulus of completing a Tarsia puzzle. I was delighted by their patience and resilience in completing this tricky puzzle. For some of the children they began to design their own Tarsia puzzle!
In RE the children focused on the Fruits of the Holy Spirit and St Paul’s letter to the Galatians and how they can relate them to their life in school.
Homework this weekend:

This week was Health Eating Week. We have been learning about the importance of being healthy. We have designed a healthy breakfast, learnt about eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day We have also learnt it is important to to drink lots of water, to be active and to sleep well.
In Religion we have been learning about the story ‘The Conversion of Paul.’ The children acted out the story and then sequenced it. They talked about how we can learn from Paul and spread Jesus’ message by the way we act.
In Literacy we have been learning about instructions . We followed instructions and then gave instructions to each other.
In Art we painted pictures of things we like to do with our dads.

Reception have taken part in Spirituality Week with the rest of the school this week. The theme this year has been ‘Meeting Jesus’. The week began with a whole school Act of Worship, where the children placed their personalised host on a large host above the altar. This created a beautiful display showing how we are One Body. They then created pictures based on where they see Jesus.
On Tuesday, the class were led in prayer by our wonderful Year 5 children, as they participated in the activities set up at the prayer stations.
On Wednesday, Reception looked at a modern painting depicting Jesus sitting alongside people on a train. Chloe decided that it reminded her of the story, The Road to Emmaus’, as Jesus was travelling alongside people who didn’t recognise him!
The children then thought about times in school when they had shared a joyful experience with a friend. Together, they then drew a picture of how they felt during that time.
Today, the children were excited to share their learning environment during the Celebration Morning. It was wonderful to see so many of you.
Father Shaun then led us in the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. This was a very special time where the children collectively worshiped Jesus, present in the form of the sacred host.

This week it has been Spirituality Week:
The children took part in a number of activities linked to our Spirituality Week theme: ‘ Meeting Jesus’. The children have focused on using art to examine where Jesus is around them, prayer stations to encourage refelective prayer and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in which they have met Jesus.
Each day the children have spent time reflecting on their day. It has been a priviledge to watch, listen and see the children ‘speak’ about their faith.
Home Learning is a whole school project based on St Paul.

It has all been about Ancient Egypt this week in Y3. We have made Egyptian jewellery, painted Egyptian sunsets, learnt about mummification and the River Nile and finished the first stage of our Egyptian plates. After half term we will be making canopic jars – if you have any pringle tubes in your recycling bin please send them into school. Thank you.
My prayers are with Joseph, Lola, William P, Elena, Aidan, Nichola, Dorian and Johnny-Mac this weekend, as they make their first Holy Communion.
