They enjoyed the snow at break times, building snowmen and snowball pyramids.
They performed during various Christmas music concerts, singing, playing the piano or the guitar. Members of the choir also performed during the upper ks2 music concert on Wednesday. Well done everyone; it has been a pleasure watching you play/sing so well!
The class also enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch! Happy faces particularly after consuming their puddings!
The children had opportunity on Thursday to watch the KS1 Nativity in the morning, whilst after an early lunch they walked down to the Wyllyotts Theatre to watch the Panto. The children really enjoyed the performance!
Today the class visited our school grotto and met Father Christmas. In addition, they enjoyed activities in the hall, dancing, party food and party games in class. A fitting end to this great week!
I wish you all a lovely weekend,
Ms Varga

I hope you will have opportunities to enjoy the beautiful snow outside. In the meantime, please see below some fun activities that you can complete at home.
It would be lovely to hear how you spent your day outdoors too, so take pictures if you can about snow angels or snowmen you built, gingerbread cookies you baked; basically any practical activities that you can share with the class this week!
Enjoy your day!

This week, the children in Year 4 consolidated their scaling and correspondence problem solving skills before moving on to measurements. In English, they have written further paragraphs to their non-chronological reports whilst in RE, they compared the Nativity story according to Matthew to Luke’s. They also prayed the Jesse tree and practiced for their Advent Service.
It has been lovely to see many of you during Wednesday’s Service; the children read and sang beautifully and created a truly prayerful atmosphere.
Children form year 4 spent some time decorating the school Christmas tree in the hall and also made paper decorations to turn our classroom a little bit more festive. In D&T, they made greeting cards including mechanisms that will soon be ready to go home.
I wish you and your family a lovely weekend,
Ms Varga

The children in Year 4 had a very busy week. They have written, edited and published the first parts of their non-chronological reports, whilst in Maths they continued their scaling and correspondence problem solving. In Science, they looked at the parts of the human ear and identified their function. They also learnt about how sound travels through different mediums. In RE, they summarised their understanding of the Jesse Tree before moving on to listening to the Nativity story according to Matthew. We prayed the Jesse Tree in class every day and also walked to church to rehearse for the Advent Service.
Well done to the choir for their lovely singing and to the children representing our school during the outdoor athletics competition on Wednesday. They came second!
We also welcomed the Bishop on Thursday and I was very impressed with the children’s mature and well-thought questions to him in class. They could also articulate clearly how we are building a better world in school, a question the Bishop was interested to hear about.
Thank you for those of you who have already sent in items for the class hamper; the collection is still carrying on so if you can, please send in a white item to contribute to the raffle.
Have a lovely weekend,

The children in Year 4 this week, spent some time researching in preparation for their third extended writing piece, a non-chronological report. In Maths, they focused on counting in multiples before moving on to scaling and correspondence problems. In Science, the class carried out practical investigations regarding sound, linking it with vibration whilst in RE the children explained the meaning of the ‘O’ Antiphon prayers. We also walked down to the church to rehearse for the KS2 Advent Service. They attended karate on Monday and started their prototypes in D&T, creating their first two mechanisms.
Thank you for those of you who sent in thin cardboard pieces like empty cereal boxes or packaging materials. We would still be grateful to receive more, so keep sending them in if you can. Thank you for your support with this.

The children in Year 4 published their Roman myths in the neatest before moving on to their next English genre, non-chronological reports. In Maths, they moved onto formal written methods for subtraction and played Bankruptcy, a competitive strategic game to put their operations into practice.
In Science, they used the school’s official site map to plan and later test fire alarms, thinking about volume, distance and accessibility. In RE, after looking at and understanding the symbols of the Jesse Tree, the class read the 7 ‘O’ Antiphons and researched their origins and importance. In History, they used artefacts to infer details about everyday life in Roman Britain whilst in PE, they further developed their understanding of ways of travelling and simple balances and created routines in small groups using apparatus.
This week, the children also had a special focus on anti-bullying, celebrating differences, learning about the power of a smile and about how to give and receive kindness. The class also looked at scenario cards and came up with strategies to deal with them safely and effectively. They completed a ‘kindness bingo’ activity and made ‘kindness fortune tellers’ to write kind comments to a classmate.
For our next D&T project, please may I ask that if you have any empty cereal boxes, you send them in please. We are making mechanisms, with levers and we need thinner types of cardboard pieces for our prototypes. Sadly, thicker cardboard does not work, so please do not send in packaging materials (boxes, etc) unless they are the thinner paper pouches (Amazon uses them often). Thank you very much, in advance.
I hope you’ll have a lovely weekend,

Please access the Advent Service songs and lyrics by clicking on the relevant blog on our page and start learning the songs by heart. We have already started practicing in class but it is essential that all children know the songs by the time we go to Church.
Henceforth all ages call me blessed, call me blessed.
My soul glorifies the Lord, my spirit rejoices
My God forever he will be, bless his holy name.
He scatters the proud hearted,
casts the mighty from their thrones.
His mighty arm before me,
In strength he raises the lowly, raises the lowly.
My soul glorifies the Lord, my spirit rejoices
My God forever he will be, bless his holy name.
He fills the starving with plenty,
but empty sends the rich away.
From age to age his mercy,
The mercy promised us forever, promised forever.
My soul glorifies the Lord, my spirit rejoices
My God forever he will be, bless his holy name.
On The Road To Bethlehem
Joseph watched the campfire slowly burning out
And spread a blanket over Mary where she lay
He knelt down beside her on the ground
Bowed his head and he began to pray
Here we are on the road to Bethlehem
I promise you I’d take care of your son
Mary’s tired and I’m doing the best I can
And I’m trusting you from here to kingdom come
If I close my eyes and go to sleep
Please watch over both of them for me
on the road to Bethlehem
Mary felt the baby move and she woke up
she felt Joseph sleeping by her side
she reached out in the darkness and touched his hand
tried not to wake him as she cried
Here we are on the road to Bethlehem
I promised you I’d take care of your son
Joseph’s tired and I’m doing the best I can
And I’m trusting you from here to kingdom come
And, if I close my eyes and go to sleep
Please watch over both of them for me
On the road to Bethlehem
Joseph felt her crying and he reached out
Held her in his arms and they both prayed
Here we are on the road to Bethlehem
We promised you we’d take care of your son
And we’re so tired and we’re doing the best we can
And trusting you from here to kingdom
To watch over us and give us strength and peace
While the saviour of the whole world gently sleeps
On the road to Bethlehem
Love Shone Down
I had a dream that I was standing on a hillside
And all the lights of town
were shining far below
When up in the air beautiful voices
Sing a new song, let everyone know,
Oh and love shone down over the hills and over the valleys, Oh and love shone down over the world
Somebody spoke to me
I knew it was an angel
He said there’s something
that I think you ought to know.
Then he just smiled, said don’t be afraid now.
Sing a new song, let everyone know
Oh and love shone down over the hills and over the valleys, Oh and love shone down over the world
And then he told me all about the baby Jesus,
How to find him where exactly I should go.
Then he was joined by millions of others
Sing a new song, let everyone know
Oh and love shone down over the hills and over the valleys, Oh and love shone down over the world
Well did I dream or was I really on that hillside On that Christmas night so very long ago, When he was born Jesus our Saviour Sing a new song let everyone know
Oh and love shone down over the hills and over the valleys, Oh and love shone down over the world
We Are Waiting
Light a candle in the darkness And let it burn bright. Advent is the season To put all our wrongs to right.
Let’s fill the earth with light and hope, Each and every day For the birth of Jesus Isn’t far away.
We are waiting, we are waiting For the coming of our King. For every face to have a smile And every Christmas bell to ring.
We are waiting, we are waiting For the birthday of our Lord. We are waiting for the coming of the Word!
Like the people in the Bible In the days of old. The Son of God is coming As the prophets have foretold.
Mighty God, Wonder Counsellor, Emmanuel his name. And the world will tell forever Of his fame.
We are waiting, we are waiting For the coming of our King. For every face to have a smile And every Christmas bell to ring.
We are waiting, we are waiting For the birthday of our Lord. We are waiting for the coming of the Word!

This week, the children in Year 4 first planned, then wrote their big Roman themed narrative across 7 paragraphs using writing tools such as similes, metaphors, expanded noun phrases and subordinating conjunctions.
In Maths, the children applied their understanding of column addition with regrouping when playing a competitive game using playing cards.
In Science, they looked at a problem solving enquiry using their understanding of distance and volume to plan fire alarms across the school whilst in RE, they looked at Matthew’s Gospel and the Jesse Tree to explain the significance of Jesus’ genealogy.
On Wednesday, they created their final art piece of their unit of pattern making, using all skills taught this term.
On Thursday, the class also performed in their first Assembly on Remembrance. Well done for the lovely reading and singing.
Friday completed the week with a 2 minutes silence at 11 o’clock followed by a procession across the school to celebrate Remembrance Day.
Please log onto your account and complete the activities in the assigned pod. 2 activities are centred around conjunctions, our whole class English target, and 2 consolidating addition.

Year 4 has had yet another busy week, following the holidays.
On Tuesday, the class walked down to the Church to participate in the All Saints Mass. They sang beautifully and answered Father Shaun’s questions with enthusiasm. The children also started their new Science unit, Sound, making links with onomatopoeia.
On Wednesday, they created poppies to accompany our Remembrance Assembly next week. They used different mediums, such as pencil, poster paint, crayon and felt tip.
In the afternoon, they revised key concepts in gymnastics, learnt last year, such as travelling, level, points and balance.
On Thursday, they used an interactive Liturgical Calendar in RE to place the period of Advent in time, making links with personal events such as birthdays or family anniversaries.
Whilst in Art, they carried on their unit of pattern making and thought about repeating patterns and creating effect by applying shapes and colours.
We also spent time practicing for our Class Assembly, which is open for parents to watch, next week Thursday, 10th November, at 9.15am.
Have a lovely weekend,

It has been another busy week in Year 4. On Monday, the children carried on learning new stances and kicks in Karate, whilst also launching One World Week, where our focus country was the Philippines. The children looked at atlases, satellite images, globes and maps to locate the island country before learning about its major cities, languages, its population and religion.
On Tuesday, we answered our key question, ‘Why do people go to pilgrimage to the Philippines’? We watched video clips about a beautiful church near Manila, The National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help also known as the Baclaran Church. We researched the special icon of Mary with baby Jesus on her arm that is displayed in the temple and listened to devotees explaining its healing powers. We have later written our own prayers to the Divine Mother.
On Wednesday, we baked Philippine butter biscuits in the morning whilst also looking at local, handcrafted Filipino household objects, ornaments and jewellery, inferring what they tell us about the people and culture of the Philippines. The children later tried their hands in paper weaving, recreating the national flag.
On Thursday, we went to our first class trip to the Epping Forest District Museum, where we participated in a Roman workshop, using artefacts found in a Roman villa and bathhouse in nearby Abridge. We acted as slaves to ‘Lady Julia’ preparing for a grand party, identifying Roman objects used in everyday life at around 80AD. The children dressed up and offered their objects to her explaining their use and relevance. We also toured the galleries of the museum, tracing Roman coins, playing Roman board games made out of sheep knuckles, digging for treasures on a tiny excavation site and moulding clay to create our own tiles.
Thank you for those of you who came to see me this week; it has been great to celebrate your children’s achievements. I hope you enjoyed visiting our classroom, as well.
I wish you a lovely and restful half term,
Ms Varga
