Preparing the Altar……

In RE the children read about Remembrance Sunday and wrote their own prayers for those soldiers who died in the war and one for a member of their own family.  In our class worship, the children shared these prayers with each other.  We revisited what the Eucharist means to us and watched what vestments the priest wears at Mass.  After learning more about the altar, the children had the opportunity to prepare an altar or put the altar away.  I was so impressed by how reverent they were at doing this.

In Maths, we have continued with our work on addition by ‘thinking 100’.  The children have followed the work well and we’ll be doing worded problems on this to ensure that we can apply our understanding.

In PE we have continued with our focus on dribbling.

Next week, we are doing a whole school writing focus on a book called ‘Traction Man!’  As part of this weeks homework, the children have been asked to bring in to school on Monday a toy that they play with or have played with and be ready to discuss what adventures they have had with their toy.

Have a lovely weekend.

Remember, if your child has any problems with the homework, we have homework club on Monday at lunch-time.

November 3rd Week 8

Welcome back everyone.  We have been hearing about the wonderful things you did over the half-term.

This week in school has seen us learning more about similes and how to use them in our writing; learning more about sound through designing our own musical instruments and how we can alter the pitch to make a higher/lower sound; finding out about and understanding one of the most important times in a Jew’s life: Bar Mitzvahs and Bat Mitzvahs; developing estimation to support calculation and many more areas of the curriculum.

Below are some pictures of the class making their instruments using only recycled material……….IMG_0305IMG_0307

On Wednesday, many of the children from the choir went off to participate in the Barnado’s Concert at the Royal Albert Hall and Sofia was one of our three singers who opened the concert with a performance of One Voice.  It was a lovely evening as I was also able to attend in the evening which made me feel very proud of the all the children  who took part.  Well done to all members of the choir who are from Year 4 and a special well done to Sofia who sang so gracefully.

You have received your home learning for this week.  If you have any queries, please pop in to the Monday  lunchtime club and I will assist you with your queries.

Have a lovely weekend.

Week 7: 20th October

The half-term has arrived and this week has been a really busy one with lots of work on our chosen focus country Egypt for One World Week.  It was lovely to see so many of you this morning at our harvest assembly and afterwards in class.

We started the week using picture prompts to help us use description, action, dialogue and rhetorical questions to write some interesting short pieces.  Our Egyptian spellings for the week showed how the children earned stickers by spelling such words as pyramid, hieroglyphics, mummification…!

In Maths we used hieroglyphics to help calculate answers and write our own number sentences.  We baked ‘Cleopatra’s Palace Bread’……..using honey and dried fruit.  Did you sample some when you came today?

The children created their own Egyptian jewellery, created 3D dangling camels, cartoush art and this afternoon had an opportunity to create 3D Egyptian art.

Have a restful half-term.

Week 6 13th October

This week has been full of more active learning.  The children have been exploring their Science topic on Sound further looking at vibration.  IMG_0212 IMG_0209 - CopyIn guided reading we have been looking at play scripts.  Some groups have been writing their own scripts whilst other groups have been acting out a script.  We have been working hard to ensure that our reading logs are up to date with our own comments about the books that we have been reading.  Keep this up as myself and Miss Varga have been enjoying reading your comments and learning about the characters in the stories you are currently reading.  In RE the children are going to examine more about The Eucharist next week.

Following our guided reading on examining a non-fictional text on Cycling, Jude, Alex, Louise, Taanya, Mia and Toni did their own research on cycling and found out many interesting facts.

Week 5: 6th October

This week we have been doing a lot of writing….adding a new chapter to our Dilemma story of Lost and Stolen.  Today the children have been doing role play as part of developing the characters within their writing. Also in grammar we looked at the use of direct speech and how to add this to enhance our skills further.

In RE we have been continuing with our focus on Initiation, learning about the importance of Baptism, The Eucharist and Confirmation and what words, actions and symbols are used in these sacraments.

The children also looked at designing a new web page for our school website with the focus on welcoming.  They worked really well and the results were amazing. We hope to show them to Mrs Heymoz next week to ask for her opinion.

The Friday Rosary started today led by our Liturgy Leaders and some of the Y4 children attended it which was lovely to see.

Have a lovely weekend.
