Year 1 Week 6 w/b 11.10.2021

Week 6 w/b 11.10.2021

Year 1 would like to thank Year 3 for leading assembly this morning.

In Religion this week we were learning about God the Trinity and how he is just one God but we can represent him in different ways. We have been learning the Hail Mary prayer this week and the children have a copy home to learn and decorate at home.

In P.E. the children enjoyed learning to jump with two feet in different ways. Look at their arms that are powering their jumps.

In science we have been exploring our sense of taste. We tasted lots of different food items and predicted what we thought they were from their taste. The marshmallows were our favourite and we were not keen on the lemon…

We continued our learning on humans by having a visit from a Dentist and two Dental Nurses. They taught us how to care for our teeth and gums.

Home learning

  • The children each have a phonic activity sheet on ‘ee’ to complete and return next Wednesday please.
  • The children have been learning the Hail Mary prayer and have a copy to decorate and read at home.

Have a good weekend,

Miss Lambie

The Hail Mary

Hail, Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Year 2, Week 6

The class have used adjectives, nouns and commas to write some wonderful list poems about Autumn this week. After writing them out onto a leaf template, in their best handwriting, they used watercolour ink to decorate them in Autumnal colours.

During Maths the class have solved and learnt to understand   < and > inequality. We have started to regroup using think 10 and will continue with this next week. Here is a video to show you how we will use the 10s frame https://youtu.be/q9h4skGoWJ8

In science we have used our observational skills to identify what can be found in a log pile habitat. Next week we will explore why living things are suited to different habitats. We have combined our computing and RE skills this week to create metaphors for God Popplets.

It has been a pleasure to read the children’s space projects and hear them discuss them with their peers. Thank you for your support with this. Next week, in History, we will be exploring how Neil Armstrong and other significant individuals contributed to a significant event beyond living memory.

Have a lovely weekend

Miss Pringle

Year 6 – 15/10/21

In English this week, Year 6 have been editing and completing their WW2 persuasive speeches. Some have delivered theirs to the rest of the class and it’s safe to say that we have some future world leaders in our midst!

In RE, the children looked at metaphors for God in the Old Testament and even wrote their own, and in Science, we learnt about the components of blood and their roles. The children then modelled this using red lentils for red blood cells, split peas for white blood cells, quinoa for platelets and oil for plasma.

The Liturgy Leaders went to the Church on Tuesday to pray the Rosary with the parish. Next Tuesday, the group will be leading the session themselves. They have already been doing a fantastic job at leading the Rosary every lunchtime for the rest of the school, so this will be a wonderful opportunity for them to serve our parish community. The Laudato Si’ group will also be leading acts of worship in each class next week for One World Week.

Thank you to Mia who brought in some beautiful cyclamens to add to our class garden. We would still be very grateful for any more donations of winter bedding plants, however big or small!

I’ve been really pleased to read so many biographies of famous people that the children have clearly spent a lot of time and effort researching and writing. We look forward as a class to hearing more about the person each child has chosen and for some of the children who shared their research today, learning more about their inspirational life and legacy.  Those shared today were written on St Joan of Arc, Christopher Columbus, Martin Luther King, Jr and Mother Teresa.

In English today the children worked in pairs and researched and worked on a  presentation on the life of  Mary Anning. Within this activity they learned to cluster information and use cohesion throughout their presentation in order to effectively engage the audience.

In maths this week we have been learning more about negative numbers and how they can be shown and interpreted in different ways in graphs and tables. In English we’re beginning to develop and write our own biography of Mary Anning, a famous Palaeontologist who lived over two hundred years ago. We are learning how to write sentences that capture the readers attention, having examined the structure and features within the biographies of other people. Not to mention the work the children have done in researching someone themselves.

In Science we’ve continued our learning about animals, examining what some animals have in common but also how they are different. In PE we’ve been developing our throwing and catching skills, and having a lot of fun.

It was lovely to see some of you at the Year 5 Maths Parents Workshop this week.  The power point shared will be uploaded onto the Year 5 Class Page under the tab ‘Maths’.

Year 2, Week 5

In maths this week we have been finding equivalent calculations and comparing numbers using the symbols  > < and =.

While in English, we have read and compared various poems.  We have studied micro habitats and made careful observations of worms.

Our focus in art is observational sketching. We have sketched detailed pictures of ladybirds to decorate our science area in class.

During History, we have identified significant people in our lives and explained why they are important to us.

Week 6

Another busy week of learning in Year 3. In English we started reading and identifying features of playscripts. The children compared a play script with a story of Alice and Wonderland. We have been looking a verbs and adverbs and acting out words so I partner could guess.

In Maths we have been adding 10 and 100 and explaining what happens to each of the digits. The children have been using Dienes equipment to demonstrate when we need to regroup. We have also been practising recalling the 2- and 5-times tables and their related division facts.

In PE, we continued ball skills. The children were learning how to control the ball with their feet.

In Religion, we were learning about metaphors used to describe God. We made a book of metaphors for God. We also thought about metaphors for our friends and for St Vincent.

In Computing, the children learn to login to their read theory accounts and complete an activity. In Art, we are focusing on drawing skills, we looked at and drew different textures.

A huge well done to all the children in Year 4 for their beautiful assembly this morning. Great reading and acting! They took on the responsibility with maturity and motivation. Very proud of them all!

This week, beyond practising for their assembly, the children completed learning on number magnitude (the size of a number relative to other benchmark numbers) in Maths, whilst continuing with their English topic of persuasion. They have used Computing tools to write counter arguments, first based on a short picture book, then later based on their home learning research of local attractions. In Science, they interpreted and constructed a variety of food chains whilst in RE they looked at the meaning of monotheism and recalled the details of the Burning Bush story from Exodus. They also worked on their still life adding tones and shades to create a 3D effect and played team ball games in PE to further progress their passing and catching skills.

I hope you have a lovely weekend,

Ms Varga

Reception Week Beginning 4.10.21

This week, Reception have been learning about growing up and how we change as we grow older. They have been thinking about all of the things that they couldn’t do when they were a tiny baby and comparing them with the things that they are able to do now, all by themselves.

On Thursday, we had two very special visitors to Reception’s class- Ella’s mummy and her baby brother Eric. Ella and her mummy told the class all about how they look after Eric and how they keep him safe and healthy. The children also had the opportunity to ask Ella some really good questions about her little brother. Next week, we are looking forward to welcoming even more visitors to our class. These special visitors are going to tell Reception about how they help other people! One of the visitors is a vet and the other a dentist!

Alongside our ‘growing up’ theme this week, Reception have also been thinking about how we celebrate birthdays. They have been very busy making birthday cards, hats, party lists and party banners; they even turned the outside role-play area into a party room! This has been a very popular and fun role play activity!!

In Religion this week, Reception have been learning about a very special book- The Bible. They worked in pairs to draw their favourite story from the Bible and shared their learning with the rest of the class. The adults were amazed at how well the children co-operated and worked together!

As you will have seen, Reception have started their phonics learning this week. Thank you for supporting your child with their home learning. This short activity at home really does help to consolidate the day’s new sound and the children are so proud to show the adults their writing the next morning!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,

The Reception Team

Year 1 Week 5 w.b. 4th October

Week 5 w/b 04.10.2021

Thank you to Year 4 who led assembly this morning on St. Francis. Year 1 really enjoyed it and learned a lot.

The children have been challenging themselves in P.E. with their balance and movement skills. They decided to try to balance with their hands out, on their heads, on their shoulders, behind their backs and they even tried to walk on the beam and balance beanbags on their heads at the same time to see the impact it had on their balance. Their balance and strength is really improving.

The children has been revising the Phase 3 phonemes and been applying their knowledge through different phonic activities. They are being resourceful and changing the rules of the games or equipment and are beginning to create their own phonic games.

In maths this week Year 1 have been re-arrange their resources to represent number in different ways.

Home learning

Miss Lambie

Year 6 – 08/10/21

This week in English, Year 6 have started writing their final piece for our unit on persuasion. They are writing a speech to warn people of the horrors of the bombings in the Blitz and persuade parents to leave their children in the countryside. What they have all written so far is fantastic and I can’t wait for them to complete and edit them next week and then finally perform them.

In Maths, we have been developing fluency when multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000, and then putting this into the context of converting between units of measure.

In RE, we have focused on the story of Moses and the Burning Bush and how this leads to our belief of monotheism (that there is only one God).

In PE, we continued with swimming on Wednesday and practised underarm throwing for accuracy on Thursday, whilst in Music, we explored beat and syncopation through song and body percussion. In Art, we began our topic on drawing, in which the focus was on developing tone.

Once again, Year 6 ended the week reading to their Reception learning partners. Well done!

Here is this week’s home learning, due next Wednesday:
