Welcome to Year 2

Welcome to Year 2!

It has been a pleasure to welcome your children into Year 2 and to begin the next stage in their learning journey. I look forward to working with parents/carers to help the children to achieve their full potential in all areas. You are invited to celebrate the children’s learning in our Year 2 blog, which will be updated on a weekly basis.

Wishing you a happy, healthy and successful time in Year 2.

Year 2 Blog Week 37

Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory. – Dr. Seuss

This week, we have been reflecting on our memories of our time together in Year 2. The children really enjoyed preparing their Act of Worship – A Moment in Time and sharing it with so many friends and family members. We came together and remembered with joy all of our achievements however big or small. We thanked all the people who have helped us on our way. We took a moment to say sorry for our mistakes. Year 2 remembered the past but also thought about the future. They leave KS1 to take their next steps into KS2. Everyone received a very special golden ticket for entry into Year 3!

The children ended the Act of Worship with a well known song – I have a dream. Enjoy the trip down memory lane!

Have a restful weekend.

Fantastic Year 6 SATS results

Well done to our Year 6 children who have achieved fabulous SATS results. 100% of our children achieved the national expected standard in Reading, Writing and Maths. This is a huge achievement and well above the national average of 64%. At present we are waiting for verification of the % of pupils who reached the higher levels in each subject.  Thank you to all the parents and teaching staff who supported the children. A special thanks goes to Miss Donatantonio and Mrs McNamara for their hard work and commitment.

Today all children will receive their end of year reports. We hope you enjoy reading them!

Year 2 Blog Week 36

Row, row, row your boat. This week Year 2 took on a D&T project to design and make a boat. The children looked at different types of boats and experimented with different materials before creating their vessels. There was great excitement when they tested out their designs. The children evaluated their work and decided that some changes were needed! IMG_2113 IMG_2119 IMG_2120 IMG_2121 IMG_2123 IMG_2130 IMG_2174 IMG_2175

We went on a great adventure to Neverland and we listened to the tales of Peter Pan and his nemesis Captain Cook. We helped the Lost Boys to fight off some pirate baddies and we took part in a funny, fishy cook off! IMG_2132 IMG_2144 IMG_2147 IMG_2151 IMG_2157 IMG_2165 IMG_2169 IMG_2170

On your marks, Get set, Go!
Following a very ‘Happy’ warm-up, Year 2 took to the field to take part in the KS1 Sports Day. The children showed off their precision throwing skills at the beanbag station. They zoomed through the obstacle course and made light work of the skipping race. Plenty of concentration was required for the egg and spoon race as well as the beanbag balancing race. The children conveniently finished up at the refreshment station where they enjoyed some refreshing orange slices. The children had great fun cheering on the adults as Mums and Dads took to the field for some fantastic sprint races! Sports Day concluded with the presentation of medals for everyone who took part. Congratulations to St. Bernadette House, the overall winners of KS1 Sports Day 2018.IMG_2211 IMG_2217IMG_2219 IMG_2220 IMG_2223

Year 2 Blog Week 35

This week the children have been presenting their Land Ahoy projects to the class. We have seen some amazing 3D models of ships, treasure chests, anchors and treasure islands. We listened carefully as all the wonderful messages in the bottles and treasure maps were read out. We enjoyed looking at the fantastic drawings of the Titanic. We also had some very inspiring computing based projects, which included a Powerpoint presentation and a Youtube video. I have been blown away by the children’s creativity and the tremendous effort that has been put into this Home Learning project. We will continue presenting the rest of the projects next week. IMG_2092 IMG_2095IMG_2103 IMG_2102 IMG_2100 IMG_2099 IMG_2097 IMG_2096 IMG_2093

Year 2 Blog Week 34

It has been an action packed week for the Year 2 crew. This week, we have focused on the scourge of the Seven Seas….. PIRATES! The children used plenty of great adjectives to describe these wicked and wily robbers, these outlaws of the oceans. Everyone came to the same conclusion… Never trust a pirate … unless his name is Bobby Shafto. Year 2 have had great fun learning about sea shanties and are in the middle of preparing their performances of Bobby Shafto’s Gone to Sea. Watch this space.IMG_2050

Year 2 have also been looking at measure in maths. The children completed an outdoor measurement maths trail and worked with their Year 3 learning partners to find out different measurements. It was great fun and there was lots of wonderful collaborative learning going on!IMG_2003 IMG_2004 IMG_2006 IMG_2012IMG_2034 IMG_2038 IMG_2040 IMG_2041 IMG_2043 IMG_2044

Year 2 also enjoyed playing some team games on the field. There were wonderful tactics used during our game of rounders. IMG_2000 IMG_2001 IMG_2002

This week we started our transition routines. The children have been reflecting on their time in Year 2 and have written up some of their favourite memories from the year in their Transition books. The children have also been thinking about what they are looking forward to in Year 3. To support the transition to Year 3, Home Learning will be set on our blog pages. Year 2 Blog Week 33

This term, in R.E. we are learning all about Discipleship. The children have been thinking about what it means to be a disciple and they have identified everyday disciples at home, at school and in our community. We looked at the calling of the first disciples from the Gospel of St. Mark. The children created a beautiful display for our Sacred Space in our classroom and produced some fantastic retellings of Jesus calling his disciples. IMG_1996

We have continued our learning on our Land Ahoy topic. This week, the children used charcoal to create some impressive Titanic artwork. Everyone enjoyed using the charcoal to create different tones and textures.   IMG_1989 IMG_1990 IMG_1991 IMG_1992 IMG_1993 IMG_1994 IMG_1995

I am really looking forward to seeing all of your Land Ahoy themed projects. I have heard whisperings of hover crafts. pirate ships and treasure islands. For more information on this Home Learning project see blog post 32.            *** Reminder! If you have not handed in your Reading records…. please ensure you bring them in on Monday.
