Next week, family and friends are invited to attend the Year 2 Remembrance Act of Worship. This will take place on Thursday 15th November at 9:15 a.m.

In Religion this week, for Other Faiths Week, we have been learning about Judaism. The children learnt about the Jewish observance of Shabbat. We laid the table for this special celebration and we enjoyed trying some grape juice and Challah bread.IMG_2792

Year 2 Blog Week 7

Year 2 Blog Week 6

This week we welcomed Mr Cowan to Year 2. Mr Cowan is a trainee teacher from St. Mary’s University. He will be teaching and learning with us for the next term. We hope he is very happy with us in Year 2 and we wish him a successful teaching practice placement.

The children have been working hard during their reading sessions and they have been concentrating on answering inference questions. This month we are enjoying the stories of the award winning writer – Sir Michael Morpurgo. So far we have read Fox Friend, This Morning I met a Whale and The Black Queen. They have been suspenseful stories and they do not always have a happy ending.166398-ml-1394408

Year 2 were in full voice as they joined Year 3 to practise hymns for our celebration day.IMG_2681

We ended the week with a wonderful day of celebrations for St. Paul VI. We enjoyed a very special assembly about the staff pilgrimage to Rome and the canonization Mass. Everyone received a beautiful St. Paul VI prayer card to share with family and friends. After extra play and a Fairtrade treat, Year 2 created their own flags of the Vatican City. We gathered on the playground at the end of the day and waved our flags as doves were released. A beautiful moment and a lasting memory.IMG_2692

Pilgrimage To Rome and St Paul VI Celebration Day

Today the school has been filled with excitement and joy as we celebrated the canonization of Pope Paul VI. We started the day with an assembly where everyone was presented with a St Paul VI prayer card. The children then enjoyed an extra break and Fairtrade treat in the sunshine. Following the theme of peace, the children spent the morning creating flags, designs, sketches and mosaics as well as continuing their research on Pope Paul VI. This afternoon we released doves of peace in the playground as a symbol of our continuing mission, following the charism of Pope Paul, to support peace and justice for all. Our pilgrimage to Rome to share in this very special moment was inspiring and uplifting. We felt privileged to be able to represent our school community in this important event. Father Shaun also attended the Mass in St Peter’s Square and we were all invited by Alex (our Seminarian)to visit the English College for Mass and then refreshments, enjoying the view of Rome from the rooftop terrace! Throughout the weekend we remembered our Pope Paul School Community and prayed for the continuing success of our school. We are very fortunate to have a wonderful group of staff who are happy to make a financial and time commitment in support of our community. Thank you ladies!
