Summer 1 Week 3

Year 3 have had a short but busy week. In English, we have been reading The Iron Man and identifying interesting vocabulary. The children have been using this vocabulary to write their own descriptions.

In Maths, the children have been learning about unit fractions and non-unit fractions. Children have been drawing pictures and bar models to show different fractions and applying their skills to solving problems.

In Design and Technology children made a sandwich following their design. Then we had a picnic tpo test the sandwich before their evaluated. The children demonstrated great cutting, spreading and organising skills while making their sandwiches. The children were able to describe the different food groups and could identify the ingredients which were healthy.

On Friday,  we had the May Procession to honour Mary. The children were reverent throughout.

The children had a wonderful time at Gobion’s Wood. We observed many wild flowers growing in the woods and were amazed when we saw the fantastic bluebells.

Thank you to all of the children who made their volcanoes, I can see a lot of effort went into each of them. Thank you parents for your support. The classroom looks wonderful! Next week we will make our volcanoes erupt. If you have not yet finished your volcano, please send it in next week.

Friday, 6th May 2022

After a lovely long weekend, the children accomplished a lot this week.

In Maths, the class further consolidated their application of the formal written multiplication by playing two very competitive games, ‘Crooked Multiplication’ and ‘Sabotage’. In English, they turned a poem into a playscript, applying all text and language features of the genre such as dialogue, stage directions and adverbs/adverbial phrases. The children then decided to turn the ‘Bank robbery’  scene from the ‘Adventures of the Dish and the Spoon’ into a playscript and promptly started planning their dialogues. In Science/D&T, the class started working on their switches, whilst also assembling their models; gluing together the different parts and drilling holes (assisted of course by me). In RE, we looked at the Rosary, researching its structure as a prayer before then reflecting on the first three of the Glorious Mysteries by writing short prayers. The class also celebrated Mary, the Mother of Christ by partaking in a beautiful May Procession today-we couldn’t have asked for a more glorious day to show our respect and leave flowers to the Mother of all.

In Computing, the children created a scoresheet, inputting data on a Spreadsheet before devising the correct formula to carry out calculations. In PE, we played short but very intense cricket matches and it has been lovely to witness the improvements the children  achieved in terms of technique but also confidence.

Have a lovely weekend,

Ms Varga

Summer Term Week 3 w.b. 02.05.2022

I hope you all enjoyed the four-day weekend and the additional Inset this week. We have changed reading books but have not managed to read with every child so will have to play catch up again next week.

On Friday the children showed respect and appreciation as they joined the school in celebrating the life of Mary before joining the procession to honour Mary with flowers.

The children also made a crown to represent Mary Queen of flowers.

The children have completed their Phase 5 phonics and are now revising all the alternative sounds to consolidate their learning. Please continue to use Spelling Frame to revise the sounds and we have been ‘phoneme spotters’ this find in seeking out sounds in everything we read.

This week our focus was: a, ay, ai, a-e

There is a Parent Phonic meeting Monday 9th May in the hall at 2:45pm. I will copy and send out any materials shared for those unable to attend.

Year 1 are to wear their P.E. kits on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Enjoy the lovely weather this weekend,

Miss Lambie

Summer 1 Week 3

We went on a lovely walk today to explore fields next to the school. They enjoyed seeing the beautiful yellow rapeseed crop, butterflies, bees, beetles, buttercups, dandelions, birds and trees. On Monday we will be writing about our walk.

We also took part in the May procession and enjoyed making crowns and honouring Mary with flowers.
