Summer 2 Week 2

What a fun, busy week! This week was Healthy Eating Week. The message was Eat well for you and the Planet! The five themes were focus on fibre, eat 5 a day, vary your protein, keep hydrated and reduce food waste. The children took part in different activities to understand the importance of healthy eating. We made different flavoured waters with lime, lemon, mint and strawberries. The children chose their favourite and made a bar chart to show the results. Our favourite was strawberry. The children have been drinking more water each day, I hope they continue at home. I was impressed with the exotic fruits that the children bought in and was amazed at how excited the children were to try new fruits. Then we made banana and blueberries muffins, they were full of fibre and they were delicious! Click here for photos. Healthy Eating Week 2022

On Tuesday, we had sports day. It was lovely to see the children supporting each other and enjoying each activity. Well done to St Bernadette for being the overall winners.

In our English lessons, the children have been comparing poems and identifying the patterns in poems. We analysed The Magic Box poem in preparation for writing our own. The children wrote expanded noun phrases to describe their favourite things. Thank you for the photos to support children with their learning.

In Maths, the children were adding fractions and solving problems involving fractions. We have also been practising the 4 times tables. Please continue to practise the 3, 4 and 8 times tables.

In Computing, the children worked in groups to make a branching database by asking yes/no questions to sort different pictures.

Next week, there is a Year 3 mass on Wednesday 22nd June at 9.30am.

Summer 2 Week 1

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. It is our last half term in Year 3! The children looked wonderful on Monday, dressed as Egyptians. Our mission during Ancient Egypt Day was to record the evidence of everyday life in Ancient Egypt, as revealed in the fragments of wall paintings found inside a newly discovered tomb. First, we watched a clip of how the tomb might have looked like when it was new. Then we saw a clip of how modern archaeologists had unearthed the tomb buried under the desert sand. With our partner we were to choose and investigate one aspect of everyday life. To record our findings, and then share them with the whole class we were to re-create fragments of wall paintings. At the start of each session, we decorated a pharaoh headdress and made a paper pyramid, while listening to music which the Ancient Egypt might have played.

This week our learning has been linked to Pentecost. Each day we looked at a different symbols that represents Pentecost. On Tuesday, our learning was about water, we learnt about the water cycle, we listened to music and discussed how it made us feel and drew what we thought. Then we read and answered questions on a poem about water.  On Wednesday, we learnt about wind. We performed a poem about wind with instruments and we blew paint to make pictures.   On Thursday, we focused on Fire.  We learnt about the Great Fire of London and made a timeline to show the events. Then we created flames with different coloured paper. On Friday, we made links with the story of Pentecost with what we believe. In the afternoon we went to mass in the school hall and had ice lollies.

In PE, we have been practising our sports day races for next week. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday afternoon.

Summer 2 Week 6

We have had a great week celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. We began the week learning about Queen Elizabeth II. . We focused on the question – How has life changed since the queen? We compared popular objects from the 1950s to what they look like today. We looked at the similarities and differences. In Art we made a silhouette of Queen Elizabeth II and flicked paint on it. On Friday, we had cake, drinks and dance in the playground.

In English, the children completed their adventure stores, edited them and wrote them up in neat. The stories were exciting, engaging and enjoyable to read. It was a pleasure to read each one, I was impressed that the children used adverbs, adjectives, prepositions and conjunctions to interest the reader.

In Maths, we have continued to solve problems involving fractions. The children have been ordering and comparing fractions.

Please continue to practise timetables. The children should know  the 3, 4 and 8 timetables.

Ancient Egypt Day – Monday 6th June 2022

We will be undertaking an archaeological expedition (from the classroom!) to Ancient Egypt.

Not to give anything away, but we will take part in an investigation of a looted tomb.

It would add to the fun if the children can come dressed for the part as either Ancient Egyptians or as amateur archaeologists!

Also during half-term, why not take some time to find out about Ancient Egyptian grave goods.

Have a wonderful holiday!

Summer 2 – Week 5

Year 3 have lots of amazing authors. This week the children have been writing the beginning of their adventure stories based on The Iron Man. In Maths, we have been solving problems involving fractions. The children have developed strategies to help them calculate the answer. The children then made fraction flowers for our class display.

This week was Walk to School Week. Each day the children Have added to the class ladder how they travelled to school. On Friday we added happy faces to our display, to celebrate cleaner air.

Over the last few weeks we have been learning different skills to help us to play rounders. The children applied their skills to play the game and did very well. On Friday, we had a cricket coach teach us some cricket games. The children enjoyed the activities and worked well as a team.

Congratulations to the children who made their First Holy Communion last weekend, it was wonderful to see them all looking lovely. Good luck to the children who are making it this weekend.
