This week we continued our work on William Sharington using drama to help us think about the characters for our narrative writing pieces.  The children took on each role with consideration and acted well.  They took turns to watch each groups’ scenes and have been given advice on what to improve upon.  I look forward to seeing their improved scenes next week!

In Maths we have been revising the concept of regrouping which we looked at last week and learning about ‘re-balancing’.

In RE we have been focusing on Pope Paul VI and his canonisation which takes place in Rome this weekend.

Home Learning is a whole school focus on Pope Paul VI.

We look forward to reading your lovely prayers to St Paul VI.

Have a lovely weekend.  I’ll light a candle for your intentions in Rome.

Reception Week 5

What a busy week! We can’t believe how much we have managed to fit in!

We continued to take advantage of the dry weather by taking our PE lesson outside on the field, where we had lots of fun exploring the different sports equipment.

We also used the field for a very special turn taking session with the parachute. We learnt lots of different games and once again showed off our excellent listening skills!

IMG_3835 IMG_3837 IMG_3839 IMG_3841 IMG_3843

In class, we have been thinking about our families and growing older. In particular, we have focussed on birthday celebrations. The children have been very busy making named wrist bands, writing birthday guest lists, writing out party invitations, creating birthday cards and banners, making party hats and using clay and junk modelling materials to make party food. They also enjoyed using the playdough to make cakes with real candles on.

The most exciting part of the week was when we had the ‘Birthday Party’ role play reveal. The children couldn’t believe that the outside role play had disco music and flashing lights inside. Lots of fun was had recreating party games such as pass-the-parcel and musical ,as well as using the area for a good old sing-a-long and dance.

On Friday morning, we had a visit from two photographers. One came to take our individual photographs and the other came from the local paper, who are doing a special feature soon about all of the local Reception classes. She couldn’t believe how well behaved the class were and how well they listened to instructions. In fact, she told us that we were actually the best class she had ever photographed! This was of course a very proud teacher moment!

The week finished with a visit from our lovely Year 6 learning partners.

Year 2 Blog Week 4

Year 2 have had a very creative week. The children completed a very special stained glass window for a school display. This display is part of our Year of our Eucharistic Journey 2018-2019 to enhance our understanding and devotion to the Blessed Sacrament.IMG_2608

We have continued work on representations of number in Maths. The children created beautiful WANTED number posters with plenty of different representations of number.IMG_2623

In English we have been learning about expanded noun phrases and conjunctions. The children applied these to their writing about Rapunzel. ‘Rapunzel was feeling elated because she could run wildly in the dark, gloomy forest.’ IMG_2620

Home Learning: reading comprehension, handwriting, spellings wk 4 and Mathletics – Money.

Have a lovely weekend.

Autumn 1 Week 5- Year 5

It has been another busy week of learning. In maths we have been using our place value knowledge to round numbers and solve problems. We have also been counting forwards and backwards across 0 using our knowledge of negative numbers.

In writing, Year 5 have been learning all about expanded noun phrases. They then used this knowledge to create some impressive introductions to their explorer guides. It was wonderful to see the children refer back to our previous poetry unit to use some fantastic vocabulary.

In R.E, we have been learning about the four sources of revelation and how we know God through them. This led to some interesting discussions about family traditions and our own human experiences. Year 5 also looked at Scripture to see how God is described and to understand the metaphors that are used.

I was particularly impressed with the children in drumming this week, as was our drumming teacher, Caz. They have learnt a range of rhythms very quickly and are practising performing in increasing complex rounds. Well done Year 5!

Week 5

Year 3 have been very busy this week – they have shown fantastic listening and team work skills in all areas of the curriculum – helping each other round three digit numbers and write noun phrases that include contractions!

In science they have been investigating what soil is made of and what types of soils we have in different areas of the school. They have played different games in class to help them learn their spellings, they have all performed well in their tests – thank you for your continued support to learn these at home. Mr Dugan challenged them to solve some very tricky problem solving this afternoon – they had to be very resourceful and resilient.

In RE we have been been focusing on how and where we see God in others and in nature. They were also very creative with their lego models of the Tabernacle and have sketched and painted some fantastic pictures of Pope Paul VI. We would like to say a special thank you to Michael for coming in on Wednesday afternoon and teaching us the hymn ‘All things bright and beautiful’ we really enjoyed singing with you.

Home learning

Please continue with the science home learning project set last week (due in next Wednesday) and practice the week 4 spellings. I haven’t set any matheletic activities but please encourage them to practice their 2, 3, 4 and 5 timetables and rounding skills. I have attached a rounding and ordering question as a challenge – please post your answers on this blog. Please read over the weekend and remember reading records next week.

Have a lovely weekend.

5th October

This week, we have been working hard understanding the next part of our Maths Learning Sequence – regrouping- by using our knowledge of complements to 10, 100 or 1000.  We completed our Poetry unit and will be starting work on persuasive writing next week.

In RE we used our assembly and notes about St Vincent de Paul to write our own biography on him and his charism to understand how his actions affected or have affected others.  In Science our work on investigating Sound continues.

Over the next two weeks, our science homework is based on using our knowledge of sound to make an instrument.  Click on the links below for ideas:

Year 6 Home Learning 05/10/18

This week’s home learning (due Tuesday 9th October) is as follows:

English Schofield & Sims English Skills : Section 1 Test 2 – to be completed in pink Home Learning book
Spellings Words from the Y3/Y4 Statutory Spelling word lists (see below for word list) – spelling sentences to be written in pink Home Learning book. The children also have 2 envelopes – one containing this week’s words and one empty one. Once they feel they are secure with a word from Envelope 1 (short-term memory), they put it into Envelope 2 (long-term memory). I could test them on their long-term memory words at any time, and they will be revisiting them in class. If they misspell a word that they’ve put into Envelope 2, it goes back into Envelope 1.

Week 5

What a busy week we have had! In Numeracy we have been regrouping numbers to 20. We started by making ten frames and then moved onto the cherry model. The children have found a number of ways to make different numbers. We have had great fun using playdough and conkers to help.

Our role play area has been transformed into a Gruffalo cafe. The children made labels and pictures to decorate the cafe. The food looks delicious! We loved reading the story the Gruffalo and creating our own scary monsters. I have seen some amazing adjectives to describe their characters.  On Thursday it was National Poetry Day so we looked at animal rhyming poems. The children enjoyed performing the poems and thinking of lots of rhyming words.IMG_0604 - Copy - CopyIMG_0607 - Copy IMG_0618 - Copy IMG_0627 - Copy IMG_0628 IMG_0630 IMG_0632 IMG_0635 IMG_0639

In PE we have been practising our throwing and catching. The children have got very good at catching and using their number skills to add up their points.

Each Friday we are lucky to have Ruth, an Art teacher to help us with out Art skills. We have been using objects from nature to sketch.
