30th April – 4th May

Year 3 have been very creative this week. In art they have been sketching animal eyes – they have then used their sketches to design dragon eyes. It has been wonderful to see their designs develop. Next week they will be finishing their canvas paintings ready for the Potters Bar art exhibition.

In maths the children have been using their measuring skills to investigate the length of different objects and solve measurement problems and we are looking forward to sharing our Road to Emmaus newspapers with you soon.

In D & T the children have been designing their very our bug hotels, with the help of both myself and Mrs Burgess from Stormont School. This week they started to make mock hotels, experimenting with materials and designs. They were very creative and worked really well in pairs to use the hand drills and saws.

Our week started by celebrating St Georges day – it was great finding out about St George and seeing about the celebrations that the children took part in over the weekend. I’m sure you’ll agree they look wonderful in their Brownie, Cubs and Scout uniforms!

We have enjoyed tennis in the sunshine this week and have worked hard to edit and improve our newspapers in English.

Mathletic, spag.com and spelling home learning has been set – please see the note in the children’s pink home learning book for details.

It is a very special weekend for Patrycja this weekend as she makes her First Holy Communion on Sunday – please keep her in your prayers.

Have a restful weekend.

Miss Pringle.

Summer Term Week 1

It was lovely to welcome the children back to school this week after the Easter break. They have been very enthusiastic about our newspaper writing in English and have even helped Y2 answer interview questions. Look out for news headlines about The road to Emmaus. The children’s Easter gardens look brilliant – well done.

In maths the children have been estimating and finding equivalent fractions, using mm, cm and m. Maybe this weekend they could measure, compare and estimate the difference between the foot length of the people in their family?

Our P.E. days are going to be Wednesday and Thursday this term but please ensure kits are in on Monday should these days have to change for any reason.

23.3.18 Year 3

Our week started with a drama workshop about e-safety. We created our own super heroes and used memorable information about our character to make safe passwords and choices when on line.

In science we’ve designed and started to make our own magnetic games – which was fun.

We also had a great time raising money for sports relief – there were many sports on offer at lunch on Friday. Thank you for your generous donations.

Home learning this week is for all children to learn the words for our Stations of the Cross service next Tuesday – please open the link below for the words.

Science Week

We have had a very exciting week in Year 3 and enjoyed the science week theme; ‘underground.’

Our week started with a trip to Affinity Water, where we learnt how rain water is treated and distributed to millions of households around the UK. We also may pledges to help save water by turning taps off when brushing our teeth and taking short showers.

Later in the week we investigated what causes volcanoes and the forces that occur during an eruption. We used our map skills to locate active volcanoes across the world and built a volcano to erupt!

We were inspired by the book written by Charlotte Gullian and Yuval Zommer, called The Street Beneath My Feet, to create collages of what we might find just below the pavement. Thank you for your help with this parents. I’m sure you will agree that their posters came out really well.

I was extremely pleased with how well the class read, danced and sang in the St Patrick’s Day assembly this morning – well done Y3.

Home Learning this week;

Spelling

Please log on to www.spellingframe.co.uk and select the Year 3 and 4 spellings. Then scroll down to unit 19 and practise the ‘ei’ words. The children are familiar with this website.

Singing

The children also need to learn the words to all the Stations of The Cross songs that were sent home earlier this week.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Pringle

19.2.18 – 23.2.18

We have had a very busy start to the term. In maths we have continued to learn about fractions and have been applying our multiplication knowledge to find fractions of amounts. Saracens rugby club have also visited us this week, teaching us the basics of rugby and linking it to maths, which was great fun.

In science we have been learning about and investigating magnetism. Maybe this weekend you could investigate what items in your house are magnetic.

We have finished our big write in English and look forward to sharing them with you at parents evening. The children have also been given a pen pal from St Christopher international school in  Penang, Malaysia! They have drafted their first letters and I will send them on Monday. We are all very excited about receiving our letters.

In RE the children have been preparing for Lent by making their Lenten promises and reflecting on how we can help others. We have also spoken about reconciliation in class too as many of the class are taking this next step towards their Holy Communion this weekend.

Enjoy your weekend and don’t forget your P.E. kits on Monday please.

Internet Safety Day

We have had a great time in Y3 today, learning about how to make the internet a safe and nicer place. As a class we discussed what we should do if we experience anything unpleasant online and how we can prevent these things from happening. We each made a pledge to help make the internet a nicer place and have been learning an e-safety song which we will upload on Friday.

20180206_171805_resized 20180206_171923_resized

Here are the lyrics to our song – it is to be sung to the tune of One Directions, You don’t know your beautiful – I have included the backing track that we used underneath the lyrics (This link was checked on 6.2.18 but please check it before allowing children to play it as it is a backing track on YouTube).

You’re on the phone, when you’re at home, but you should know that you’re never alone.

Playing Xbox or on PlayStation, just remember we all deserve the same respect,

Everyone in the whole world can see you; everyone else knows your details.

Don’t share your email, your picture or your address.

Don’t share your password, your schools name or your number.

Don’t meet or message with people that you don’t know.

You should know, oh, oh, you should keep your details safe.

If you feel worried then tell someone,

Maybe your parent, your teacher or your best friend

You can report them, remove it or even block!

You should know, oh, oh, you should keep your details safe, oh, oh, you should keep your details safe.

When you’re online, playing Mine-craft, just remember to always to be smart.

Keep comments kind, or send a ‘like’, just remember to always think twice.

Everyone in the whole world can see you; everyone else sees your comments.

2.2.18 Year 3

This week we have been exploring forces in science. The children have enjoyed finding out about gravity and what it would be like without this force. They have also learnt how forces are measured and the effects of a force.

IMG_0293 IMG_0303IMG_0307 IMG_0306

In English we have been using similes, 2ed sentences, adverbs and adjectives to create some very atmospheric stories. We are going to be finishing these stories next week and incorporating some of our writing into our wonderful ink marbling.

During maths we have been applying our multiplication and division knowledge to tackle some tricky word problems and maths fluency – well done Y3, your timetable knowledge is impressive.
