Year 6 – 29/03/18

What a busy final fortnight of the term! Last week was Computing Week, during which we enjoyed an e-Safety workshop and a coding workshop. Thank you Ms Davey for organising these.

The children had their final two football sessions and on Tuesday played a class tournament where they applied all the skills that they had acquired over the previous four weeks. Well done to The Gunners on your victory!

IMG_0041 IMG_0042 IMG_0044 IMG_0045 IMG_0046 IMG_0049

In maths this week, the class have been focusing on multiplying and dividing fractions, which they then applied to some challenging contextual problems.

In English, Y6 have spent the week revising SPaG features. On Monday, they worked in teams to write a paragraph and label it to show which features they had used. On Tuesday, they became the teachers and in pairs marked a SPaG paper ridden with errors. This generated some impressive discussion and it transpired that the children are harsh markers! On Wednesday, they made learning posters to highlight and clarify all the misconceptions that came to the surface the previous day.

Well done Y6 for your consistent hard work this term; it has certainly flown by since Christmas! Have a good rest over the holidays and come back fully refreshed for the final push before SATs!

Home Learning

Today you received two booklets to be completed over the Easter holidays: 10-4-10 Maths and 10-4-10 SPaG. Please spend 10 minutes each day – Monday to Friday – working through each of these. Spend another couple of minutes each day marking the questions (answer files below) and use your CGP revision books to go over topics that you are finding more challenging. I will also be keeping an eye on Read Theory and Prodigy Maths and awarding Dojo points!

Week 24

Reception class have been very busy learning about the Easter Story this week.

On Monday, the children learnt about The Last Supper. They acted out the story during RE and some children role-played it again during their Free Learning.

On Tuesday, the children learnt about the Stations of the Cross. They then made their own crosses from a wide range of different materials and displayed these in the classroom.

Yesterday, the children made their own beautiful Easter cards for their families.

Today, the children took home their germinated runner beans. Once the leaves appear, they will need to be potted. The class have been asked to bring them back to be measured by Mrs Theo, on Friday 20th April. The child with the tallest beanstalk will win a packet of flower seeds to be planted in their garden at home. Good luck!

The Way Of The Cross

Well done to our KS2 children who led a very moving and reflective Way of The Cross Presentation yesterday evening. The singing, acting and reading were wonderful. You should all be very proud of yourselves. Thank you to all the staff who prepared the children so well and to the parents. grandparents, governors and parishioners who supported the children by sharing in the celebration.

Week 23

This week was Computing Week. Reception started the week by participating in an action packed eSafety workshop. The children learnt about the importance of not sharing personal information to strangers and how to stay safe online.

Later on in the week, Reception used some very exciting apps on the iPads to bring their pictures to life. The children couldn’t believe their eyes when their birds started walking around the page!

It’s been wonderful to be able to get outside without any disruption from the weather this week. The children have really enjoyed performing stories, songs and shows on the new stage area, as well as using the PE equipment to make up their own games and using the mud kitchen.

Computing Week 2018

Computing Week 2018

We recently celebrated Computing Week at school. Programming was the focus of the week and the children engaged in various activities and workshops to develop their computational thinking. There was plenty of debugging, repetition and sequencing taking place throughout the school. It was great fun! The children also took part in an eSafety workshop which allowed them to enter the world of online gaming. Everyone learnt about how to keep safe when playing on the internet.
