Computing Week- Year 5

This week, we have been fortunate to take part in amazing computing activities. On Tuesday, we had a drama workshop where we explored internet safety. The children learnt about creating secure passwords, pop up scams and cyber bullying. The workshop was a huge amount of fun and involved the children getting very creative, as you can see by the pictures!

Today, we were visited by SETPOINT, a Hertfordshire organisation that teaches computing skills in school. In this session, we had to code and debug to program a micro:bit. It was great fun and the children showed off their computing skills. Our visitors were really impressed with how much year 5 knew. Well done year 5, this has earned you all 10 Dojos each!

Thank you to Miss Davey for organising such a great week!

As part of our Lenten journey, we were visited by Cafod this week. We looked at the amazing work they do and how our contributions make a difference. Well done to Year 5 for dressing up today: our donations will ensure Cafod can continue to help others all around the world.

On Thursday, we took part in the sacrament of reconciliation. Well done year 5 for your reverence during this time.

Have a great weekend.

23.3.18 Year 3

Our week started with a drama workshop about e-safety. We created our own super heroes and used memorable information about our character to make safe passwords and choices when on line.

In science we’ve designed and started to make our own magnetic games – which was fun.

We also had a great time raising money for sports relief – there were many sports on offer at lunch on Friday. Thank you for your generous donations.

Home learning this week is for all children to learn the words for our Stations of the Cross service next Tuesday – please open the link below for the words.

Blog week 24

Another busy week! We started the week with computing where the children engaged with an interactive fun session. They learnt about the importance of not sharing their details online and being aware that people may not be who they say they are;a very important lesson. Programming bee-bots was very popular and the children mastered how to write their own set of instructions. Year 1 had another opportunity to take part in a rugby session this week and lastly, on Friday. Sports Relief’ proved a huge success with plenty of sports activities set up in the playground at lunchtime.

Year 4 Blog

The children have had a busy week. We had a CAFOD workshop on Monday from RoseMarie, about the work the charity does for disadvantaged communities around the world. Money raised towards our Lent appeal between Shrove Tuesday 13 February and Saturday 12 May will be doubled by the UK Government,  so RoseMarie talked to the children about raising funds through their lenten boxes to make double the difference! Please continue to encourage your children to fill their lenten boxes. Their efforts will allow CAFOD to help those children, young people and families who need it most. The boxes can be returned after the Easter break.IMG_0998 IMG_0999 IMG_1000

On Tuesday the children took part in an E-safety drama workshop. The session covered the benefits, and many positives, of internet use and addressed the related issues that children  face by providing practical advice that is easy to apply. Issues covered in the workshop included personal information, downloading, cyber bullying, block-ups, gaming, digital footprints, and more.

.IMG_1015 IMG_1024 IMG_1027 IMG_1028 IMG_1036

On Wednesday the children received the Sacrament of Reconciliation as part of their Lenten journey. Fr Pat, from Borehamwood parish, joined Fr Shaun to assist with confessions.

To finish the week the children all took part in various sports activities for Sports Relief.

Please can you ensure you practise your words for the ‘Way of the Cross’ service  next Tuesday evening.

Have a lovely weekend.

Happy St Patrick’s Day!

Well done to our Year 3 children who led us in a wonderful assembly on Friday. Your snake dance was amazing! Thank you to our Irish dancers who provided a touch of Riverdance to the morning. It was wonderful to see so many parents celebrating the learning in class and then enjoying an Irish Coffee!

Happy St Patrick’s Day!

Week 22

As part of British Science Week, Reception focussed on things that live and grow under the ground. We began by  starting the process of germinating runner beans.

IMG_9564 IMG_9569 IMG_9571 IMG_9620 IMG_9621 IMG_9623

We also found a pot of forgotten bulbs that had begun to grow, and so we quickly planted them in the soil!

IMG_9577 IMG_9578 IMG_9579 IMG_9583 IMG_9585

We had some great responses to the Big Question, “What would be positive or negative if we lived underground?

Ollie     “I wouldn’t like it. There are worms under the ground. I don’t like worms.”

Grey   “It would be great. Not many predators would know where you lived.”

Lucy “I wouldn’t like to live underground. It would be dark because there would be no light.”

Our Literacy focus has been the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. In class, we made our very own giant’s castles from large and small construction, used lots of mathematical language to describe different sizes, imagined what else could be at the top of the beanstalk and thought about what we would like our magic beans to do, if we had some.

IMG_9479 IMG_9488 IMG_9548 IMG_9551

In Maths, we have been busy learning about 3D shapes and their properties.

Thank you for coming!

Have a lovely weekend,

Science Week

This week, we celebrated British Science Week and our theme was ‘underground’. We began by thinking about the positives and negatives of if we became an underground society. On Wednesday, we made a trip to Affinity Water. We discovered where our water comes from and how it gets cleaned. It was amazing to hear how a simple coconut is the key to our clean water and how that particular facility has an ultra filter. Once back at school, we imagined being a drop of water that visited the plant and created wonderfully imaginative stories.

The children also took part in a STEM water challenge, where they had to create a pipe network to send water to all parts of the town. I was impressed with how they demonstrated the learning powers of so many of our characters in one task. They showed high levels of involvement by being ‘have a go’ hares, worked like ants to be a team, used all of their resources like beavers and were very reflective like tortoises to improve their learning. Some groups were also fantastic rhinos when things did not go to plan. Well done year 5!

This morning, we were all treated to a great St. Patrick’s day assembly. Well done to Kate for her amazing Irish dancing and to year 5 for their beautiful singing. During the assembly, the results of the ‘Design your Dream Home’ competition were announced. Year 5 did very well! Well done to Sean for coming in second place and Francesco for coming first.

It was wonderful to see so many of you at the celebration morning. The end results were fantastic! Year 5 are a creative bunch and we have such a variety of designs.

Year 2 Blog Week 23

It has been another action-packed week for the Year 2 crew! This week was British Science Week and the theme was ‘Underground’. We launched into this theme with THE BIG QUESTION- What would be positive or negative if we lived underground? There was a lot of discussion and some very interesting answers. Negative – No WiFi! Positive – No more sunburn. Year 2 learnt about volcanoes and created their own clay models. IMG_1510 IMG_1511 IMG_1512 IMG_1513 IMG_1514 IMG_1558 IMG_1559 IMG_1560

The children also researched animals that live underground and created some amazing invertebrate classification keys. We focused on earthworms – the world’s unsung heroes! The children really enjoyed finding and observing these wriggly creatures. IMG_1534 IMG_1535 IMG_1536 IMG_1538 IMG_1540 IMG_1541 IMG_1543 IMG_1544 IMG_1546 IMG_1548 IMG_1549 IMG_1554

This week in tennis we were perfecting our serve. It is very important to keep your eye on the ball!
