Week 13: 8th December

Well, another busy week!  We have been busy preparing for our Key Stage 2 Advent Service.  The service was lovely – well done to you all for making it such a prayerful occasion.  You sang, spoke and danced really well.  Learning your lines, acting and choreographing your own dance made the Advent Service very special.

Bishop John Wilson visited the school on Wednesday and helped marked the school’s 50th Anniversary.  He visited every class and the questions that you asked him were insightful and thoughtful.  They enabled us to find out more about him and his work as a Bishop in our diocese.  Thank you to Sofia, Evie, Mia, Luka K, Samuel for your questions.

This week, we have been busy preparing for the Advent Service.  All of you sang, danced, acted and spoke so well.  You acted so maturely in the service making it a special occasion for everyone who attended.

Bishop John Wilson visited our school on Wednesday and came into our classroom for a question and answer session.  You listened carefully to his responses to your questions….we even had the opportunity to wear his special ring!

On Wednesday we welcomed Bishop John Wilson to our school. He took part in a special assembly where he blessed our new Lectionary of Masses for children which was a gift from our Parish. The children then enjoyed asking Bishop John questions when he visited each class. This visit marks the end of our Jubilee Year. We give thanks for 50 years of Catholic Education here at Pope Paul and we look forward to the next 50!

Advent Service 2017

Well done to all our KS2 children who presented a wonderful, moving and thought provoking reflection yesterday evening.  Your singing, reading and acting were fabulous!  Congratulations to all our soloists who sang with confidence and conviction. Thank you to Mrs Joyce for leading the preparation for this Service and to Miss Pringle, Mrs McNamara, Miss Varga, Mrs Lines and Miss Donatantonio for all their hard work practising with the children. Performing in our beautiful church, it was heartening to see our links with the Parish growing from strength to strength. Thank you to all the parents, governors and parishioners who supported the children by sharing in the Service.

Advent-Week-4[1]

Week 13 Reception

The children did us proud on Wednesday when they performed their class Nativity. Every child was fully engaged and sang their heart out, despite the fact that they had a very big audience.

Thank you so much for coming to watch!

Later on that morning, the school welcomed Bishop John Wilson. He had come to mark the end of our 50 year celebrations, with a whole school act of worship. Afterwards in class, the Reception children sang a couple of the songs from their Nativity play to him; he thought they were wonderful.

Year 2 Blog Week 13

This week we closed our 50 Years celebrations with a very special assembly and Act of Worship, which was attended by Bishop John Wilson. It was lovely to look back and remember all the wonderful things we did as a school to celebrate our 50th Year in Catholic education.

Year 2 have been very busy this week rehearsing for the Christmas Nativity play and making the displays for the stage. We are really looking forward to performing in front of an audience next week. Put that date in your diaries – Wednesday 13th at 9:30 a.m.

The children also looked at a story from Mexico – The Christmas Poinsettia. Everyone enjoyed the learning about la Flor de Nochebuena – the Flower of the Holy Night and produced some wonderful retellings.

In maths this week, we have been looking at subtracting a 1 digit number from a 2 digit number. The children have been employing their strategy of partitioning to great success!

Week 13

In year 5 this week, we have been busily preparing for our Advent service this evening. They have learnt the words to the songs really well and sung beautifully in our rehearsal today.

We really enjoyed our visit from Bishop John Wilson on Wednesday. We welcomed him to our classroom and told him about our science learning. He gave us some grIMG_0421 IMG_0423 IMG_0424eat advice on how to prepare for the birth of Jesus- I hope Year 5 can follow the Bishop’s guidance.

In maths, we continued to work on our mental multiplication and division with a focus on regrouping.

In English, we have begun looking at instructions. We have identified their features and considered their target audiences.

In our Religious learning, we have drawn together everything we have learnt about prayer and the different forms of it we know. We have evaluated and compared them and also written our personal feelings about them. It has been really interesting to hear these responses.

I look forward to seeing you at the service this evening.

Week 13 Blog

This week the children have been busy with rehearsals for the KS1 Christmas play – Children of the World. Thank you for your support at home in helping them to learn the words to the songs. We all look forward to seeing you next week!  In literacy the children have been learning about poems and enjoyed reciting them in class. When the Bishop visited Year 1, he read out a poem about worms much to the children’s delight!

Week 12

As part of National Tree Week, we set Reception the challenge of finding five different shaped leaves within the school grounds. The children then had to match their leaves to those on the identity cards, in order to find out the names of the trees that they had come from.

In PE with Mr Dugan, we have been working on creating and holding balances. This week, the children were asked to try and create a group balance. This was very tricky but lots of fun!
