Year 6 – 08/07/22

The children have been rehearsing extremely hard this week for Go For Gold, and it promises to be a fantastic show. We look forward to performing to you on Tuesday evening!

Children, this weekend is the last push for you to practise songs and actions, as well as going over your lines.

Year 6 – 01/07/22

In between rehearsing hard for our production (which is beginning to sound amazing!), Year 6 have been enjoying sewing their mobile phone cases and playing rounders.

Last week, the children were once again fantastic with their Reception buddies as they made games and obstacle courses for them.

Please continue to practise lines and songs (along with dance moves), and to bring in any props and costumes on Monday so that we can start doing full dress rehearsals!

Year 6 – 17/06/22

It’s the end of another week, and once again it’s been a busy one. Tuesday was Sports Day, and the children jumped, threw and run to their best ability despite the heat!

All did brilliantly, but well done especially to St Bernadette house; Phoebe and William had the honour of lifting the trophy and parading it around the field with the rest of their house!

It was also Healthy Eating Week, and Year 6’s focus was Vary Your Protein. The children learned that pulses are an excellent source of plant-based protein, and today we made and tasted a protein smoothie and a chickpea, lentil and coconut curry, which went down a treat!

Great fun was also had trying raw ginger, which is full of health benefits. The shock of the taste took some by surprise!

Finally, the week ended in a beautiful Blessed Sacrament Procession. Y6 walked with their Reception partners and they were absolutely fantastic. Well done!

Home learning is to learn your lines for Go For Gold. Here is the pdf of the script if yours is at school: Go For Gold – Script

Please also practise the songs; these can be found at the bottom of last week’s blog.

Have a great weekend!

Year 6 – 10/06/22

This week, we have been learning about the feast of Pentecost – which took place last Sunday – by exploring the symbols of water, wind and fire – powerful forces of nature which hold symbolism in the story of Pentecost.

On Tuesday, we explored water by performing poetry about the rain, creating paintings, and engineering a water pipeline.

On Wednesday, we explored wind by writing about a farmer whose farm was destroyed by high winds, and creating pencil drawings.

On Thursday, we explored fire by personifying the ferocity of fire through writing, using pastel to create artwork, and investigating the three elements needed for fire to survive and how this links to wildfires.

This culminated in Friday’s learning all about Pentecost itself, when we considered how these symbols link to this amazing event which marks the birthday of the Church. We welcomed a Spiritan priest – Fr Fidelis – into our school to hear about his mission of evangelisation and his affinity to the Holy Spirit. The children asked fantastic questions and were very intrigued by what he had to say. We ended the week with Mass in the hall (in which James and Mishka read beautifully, and William P spoke fantastically about his favourite part of our learning from this week) followed by a celebratory ice lolly and run-around on the field.

It has been a thoroughly enjoyable week and the children engaged in their learning so enthusiastically – well done.

This afternoon, you got your scripts for our end-of-year production: Go For Gold.

Have a read of the script over the weekend, and choose your top 3 roles. We will have auditions on Monday, using the dialogue on p.19. Regardless of which role you want, please practise the lines of either Nick Nicely, Mike Raffone or Gabby Galore on p.19.

If you are going for the role of Zeus, please also learn the rap on p.29 (scroll down for the track).

Here are the songs to start learning!

Year 6 – 27/05/22

Jubilee celebrations have been in full swing this week! We have explored the question How do we see the importance of Queen Elizabeth all around us in our lives today? and have focused on the importance of the Commonwealth, the Queen’s charity patronages, the Queen’s honours list, and the Queen’s speech. To help decorate the classroom, we put our sewing skills to use by making Jubilee bunting. This afternoon, we enjoyed a game of Pin the jewel on the crown and ended the day in the sunshine with cake, music and flag waving! Well done on your wonderful kings and queens costumes!

In amongst the Jubilee mania, Y6 yesterday participated in the Oakmere Mini Marathon; Miss Pringle was very impressed with your stamina and enthusiasm!

Yesterday afternoon saw the Liturgy and Laudato Si groups leading the rest of the school in reflective and interactive prayer activities for our Spirituality Afternoon. Well done!

So here ends another half term, and what a busy one it’s been! SATs, PGL and Jubilee celebrations have certainly made the time fly! Enjoy your week’s break and I will see you all in June.

Year 6 – PGL Day 5

The children battled through a wet morning with a coastal walk and a game of Capture the Flag on the field, before a peaceful journey back on the coach!

Well done Year 6 on an excellent week! Have a restful weekend and I’ll see you again on Monday!

Year 6 – PGL Day 4

After a wet morning, the sky cleared and gave us a beautiful final full day 🌞

Today’s activities were trapeze, rifle shooting, challenge course and beach walk, and once again the children enjoyed trying new things and challenging themselves!

We spent our final night at the beach with a stunning sunset to celebrate a fantastic week spent together.

Year 6 – PGL Day 3

Today has been the day for challenging fears, encouraging classmates, and displaying fantastic team spirit!

We all started with Passport to the World, which was a country and flag-themed scavenger hunt around the PGL site. Team Spain were the winners!

Groups 1 and 2 then had Jacob’s Ladder, buggy building and rock climbing, whilst group 3 had abseiling, rock climbing and Jacob’s Ladder.

After chicken and curly fries for dinner, the day ended with a campfire, which entailed lots of singing with actions!

Year 6 – PGL Day 2

Today has been action-packed to say the least!

Raft building, buggy building, abseiling, giant swing and photo challenge all featured, then we ended the day on the beach and had evening prayer with the sun setting over the sea.

Thank you for the letters that you have sent; the children love receiving them.

Time for bed now before another busy day featuring Jacob’s Ladder, rock climbing, ‘Passport to the World’ and an evening campfire!

Year 6 – PGL Day 1

We arrived safely at Bawdsey Manor and went straight to the beach, where we had lunch, skimmed stones, played football and collected shells.

We then played games back at the centre before being shown to our dormitories, having some time to relax, then enjoying sausages or chicken Kiev for dinner followed by chocolate fudge cake. Yum yum!

Our evening activity was called Wacky Races, in which we got the chance to race each other in crazy ways, including pretending we were egg-laying hens!

We concluded the day with evening prayer before bedtime, and are looking forward to raft building, abseiling and giant swing tomorrow!
