Merry Christmas

We have had a great last week in Year 2, filled with joy! The children have been busy making Christmas cards and calendars. They also enjoyed Christmas lunch and performing their Nativity play for the parents.

Thank you for the generous gifts for the adults in class.

Have a restful and happy Christmas

Miss Pringle

Autumn 2 Week 6

This week we enjoyed watching the reception children’s play and also performing our Nativity play for the rest of the school, we can’t wait to perform to you all next week.

In Maths, we have used doubles and near doubles to add  two numbers.

6 + 6 = 12

6 + 7 is 1 more than 12.

6 + 5 is 1 less than 12.

In Religion, the children have written wonderful recounts of the Nativity Story. Next week we will be writing them in neat for display.

Today, there was lots of excitement in assembly when we saw Father Christmas on the big screen in the staff room! Later we met him and he gave us each a box of chocolates. We had a great time at our class Christmas party; dancing, singing and eating party food.

Have a lovely weekend

Autumn 2, Week 4

We have been very busy in R.E.  this week, preparing  for Advent. Our prayer table has changed to purple and we have made Advent wreath pictures, Advent promises and a class Advent calendar, where behind each window is a prayer written by the children. We have also been practising our reading, acting and songs for the Nativity play.

I have been impressed with the children’s use of conjunctions in their writing this week.

In Maths, we have been rebalancing calculations to make them easier, for example; 9 + 7 = 10 + 6 and 11 + 7 = 10 + 8.

The children have also been developing their mathematical explanations and strategies.

In PE, we have learnt the different karate blocks, while in tag rugby we have begun passing and small sided tag games.

Autumn 2, Week 2

On Monday, we took part in an anti-bullying workshop as a lead up to next week’s Anti-bullying week. During this workshop, the children learnt about using kind words and their power. As part of ‘Maths Week England’, we completed various interactive and practical tasks involving money. In English we have been applying our phonic knowledge in various ways.

In P.E. we have started tag rugby with Miss Pringle and karate with Sensei Michael.

In RE, we have identified signs and symbols of Advent, while in Art we have started to sketch self-portraits.

Autumn 2, week 1

Welcome back! It has lovely to see the children return from the half term refreshed and ready for learning. Today the children were very excited to lead their first assembly, all about Remembrance Sunday. They produced some beautiful artwork to share with the other classes and read very well in the assembly. It was lovely to see so many of you there.

We began the week by having a reflective class worship where we prayed for people in heaven, shared our half term news and thanked God for keeping us safe.

As part of our RE learning about preparing for Advent, we were visited by Mrs Lala, who explained how she is preparing for the birth of her baby. Thank you so much for helping us with our learning.

Year 2, Week 6

This week was One World Week. We have been learning about COP26 and what we can to do to protect our world. The children made promises to protect our world, grew cress seeds to encourage people to grow their own food, read books about climate change and made their own posters.

In art the children drew observational sketches of pumpkins and created prints using paint and foam boards.

Please hear your child read this half term and complete the whole school RE home learning.

Have a restful week

Year 2, Week 6

The class have used adjectives, nouns and commas to write some wonderful list poems about Autumn this week. After writing them out onto a leaf template, in their best handwriting, they used watercolour ink to decorate them in Autumnal colours.

During Maths the class have solved and learnt to understand   < and > inequality. We have started to regroup using think 10 and will continue with this next week. Here is a video to show you how we will use the 10s frame https://youtu.be/q9h4skGoWJ8

In science we have used our observational skills to identify what can be found in a log pile habitat. Next week we will explore why living things are suited to different habitats. We have combined our computing and RE skills this week to create metaphors for God Popplets.

It has been a pleasure to read the children’s space projects and hear them discuss them with their peers. Thank you for your support with this. Next week, in History, we will be exploring how Neil Armstrong and other significant individuals contributed to a significant event beyond living memory.

Year 2, Week 4

I have been very impressed with the children’s attitude to learning this week. They have edited and published their space adventure stories, which are now proudly on display in our classroom. Next week we will start a poetry unit in English.

In Maths next week we will be finding equivalent calculations and using our number bonds for addition and subtraction.

We have been very busy in Science this week identifying different habitats and classifying things into three different groups; 1. alive 2. not alive 3. never been alive. We have also used secondary sources (books and the internet) to research our own questions about living things and their habitats.

St Vincent house  celebrated their feast day this week and in RE we discussed how we could be more like St Vincent.
