Year 2 Blog Week 4

This week in school we launched The Year of The Word – The God Who Speaks. In Year 2 we found out about St. Jerome and how he translated the Bible into Latin, a language that ordinary people could understand. We reflected on how St. Paul VI helped to spread the Good News and the children created a beautiful collage of our patron saint for our classroom.

In English we have been focusing on the book Joan Procter, The Dragon Doctor, as part of our whole school writing project. We concentrated on one of Joan’s most interesting reptiles, the Komodo dragon and everyone thought of fantastic adjectives to describe it. Hopefully we will catch a glimpse of the Komodo dragons in London Zoo next week.

Our author for the month of October is the very famous Children’s Laureate, Sir Michael Morpurgo. We whizzed through Fox Friend and we are looking forward to reading This Morning I Met a Whale.

In Maths, we have continued work on Place Value. The children have solved problems using the maths resources as well as drawing pictorial representation.

Home Learning: Spelling rule 3 and Mathletics.

If you have any small cardboard boxes at home in your recycling … please send them in for an art activity next week. (No bigger than a cereal box)

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Davey

Who rocks the house?
There were lots of cheerleaders on hand this year to warm-up for Sports Day 2019! Following a fabulous dance routine Year 2 took to the field to take part in the KS1 Sports Day. The children showed off their throwing skills at the beanbag station and there was plenty of concentration required for the egg and spoon race. The children conveniently finished up at the refreshment station where they enjoyed some refreshing orange slices. Congratulations to St. Bernadette House, the overall winners of KS1 Sports Day 2019.

One of the highlights  of the week was harvesting our potatoes and onions. We had a bumper crop of potatoes and our onions were enormous!

After digging up our potatoes and onions there was only one thing left to do…. get them into the oven to roast! They were delicious!!!!

Have a lovely weekend!

Thank you for supporting your children with the whole school Home Learning on St. Paul. The artwork, posters, fact files and story retellings are fantastic! We have displayed all of this wonderful work on a map which shows St. Paul’s missionary journeys.

This week we continued our learning on St. Paul by focusing on the story of  Paul and Silas in prison. The children thought about how Paul and Silas felt in prison and how they sang songs of praise to God. The children composed their own songs of praise to the tune of Happy. Their songs were brilliant!!!

We finished our week with a special Act of Worship during which we prayed for our Dads.

Wishing you all a very Happy Father’s Day.

Home Learning: Bedtime Sleep Survey.

Year 2 then wrote up their own newspaper articles for the ‘Jerusalem News’, reporting on the coming of the Holy Spirit.

In Maths we have been learning about the properties of 3D shapes. The children had great fun making their own 3D shapes and creating WANTED shape posters.

Year 2 Blog Week 31

It has been another busy week in Year 2! The children took part in a number of activities linked to our Spirituality Week. The theme of our Spirituality Week this year was Meeting Jesus. The Prayer stations were organised by Year 5 this year.  The children offered prayers through blowing bubbles, choosing a stone, creating a prayer chain for different countries and writing prayers for different people. Each day the children have spent time reflecting on their day in a Spirituality Diary.

Please find the Whole School Home Learning attached below.

Year 2 Blog Week 30

It has been a very busy week in Year 2. The children have worked incredibly hard this week and I am extremely proud of them.

In Religion we have been learning about the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The children created some beautiful artwork and thought about why Mary was chosen to be the mother of Jesus. We thought about the goodness that flowed from Mary’s Immaculate heart and asked how we can  follow Mary’s example today.

In Science we have been learning about animals and their habitats. This week we focused on animals that live underground. The children delighted in observing the gardener’s best friend – The Earthworm!

Home Learning: Spend some time reading your favourite story!

Have a wonderful weekend!
