Year 5 – 14/07/23

Our week began with a taster day at Nicholas Breakspear School, which was thoroughly enjoyable! After an assembly with headteacher Mr Linnane in the assembly, we had an RE lesson, in which the teacher was blown away with the class’s knowledge of the Bible. RE followed with Science, with was unanimously the highlight of the day; using chromatography, the children uncovered who had stolen the teacher’s chocolate! The day concluded with lunch outside and a Geography lesson about rainforests.

Tuesday was D&T day, for which the whole-school focus was Building a Better World. Our mission was to design and make a sustainable dish. After researching and discussing food miles, water usage and CO2 emissions required for different foods, the children made a lentil salad, which got mixed reviews in the evaluation!

On Wednesday, we were back at Nicholas Breakspear – this time for a Community Mass. With Y4, we joined the Year 7s from NBS and two other Catholic primary schools for Mass followed by a highly enjoyable (and competitive!) rounders tournament.

For both trips this week, the children’s behaviour was impeccable and they left the NBS staff with a very good impression of our school.

Thursday was Transition Day, so the children had the chance to spend some time with Ms Pemberton in their new classroom for next year.

Friday concluded with a wonderful music concert featuring the singers and instrumentalists from Year 5 and 6 – well done to all who performed!

We have also been preparing our Mini Police which will be on Monday at 2:30pm – do come along to see the children be awarded their certificates and hear all about what they’ve learned over the last few weeks.

Spellings for this week are:

Please logon to Spelling Shed to practise these.

That’s all for now, so do all have a great weekend and I’ll see you back on Monday for our final week together 😢
