Reception Week Beginning 3.7. 23

This week has been all about the trip to London Zoo!

On Tuesday, the children were shown video clips about London Zoo and were given maps to look at. In small groups, the children discussed and planned what animals they would like to see. They recorded the information on large pieces of paper and presented it to the rest of the class. It was truly amazing to witness the wonderful team work, oracy skills and the children’s ability to consider one another’s choices. They have come such a long way since the beginning of the year!

The children also took part in a poll where they had to choose five animals from a list. This was recorded in the form of a whole class tally chart and the results were then used to map the route around the zoo. It also meant that everyone got to see at least a couple of their top five choices!

Yesterday, was trip day!

The children were VERY excited, but despite this, their behaviour around the zoo was exemplary; they were true ambassadors of Pope Paul Catholic School! It was a wonderful day!

Amongst many other animals, the class saw: snakes, crocodiles, exotic frogs, reptiles, gorillas, lions, vultures, spiders, a coral reef, tigers, penguins, giant tortoises, meerkats, gibbons, flamingo, otters and monkeys.

A special thank you goes out to Mrs Strange, our Chair of Governors, Mrs Menicou and Mrs Quinn, who all volunteered to support the staff in keeping the children safe and happy on the trip! Thank you!

Have a wonderful weekend,

The Reception Team
