Thursday 4th July learning

Please log onto Mathletics and Spelling shed to complete the tasks set. These will include tasks based on common exception words and division activities.

Please also take this time to research an athlete of your choice who is going to the Paris Olympics. Find out where they are from, what their sport is, if they have won any medals before, what it takes to be an Olympic athlete and any other interesting facts about them. We will be writing about this in class next week.

See you all on Friday

Summer 2 Week 4

In English, we have continued our Great Fire of London writing. This week, we have used our senses to describe what Pudding Lane, would have looked, smelt and sounded like. Next week, we will use this writing to help us ‘interview’ each other. We have used our History, Design and Art skills to create Tudor houses from Pudding lane – I’m sure you’ll agree, they are very impressive!

In Maths we have used dienes to help us add two and three digit numbers.

Well done Ella, Lorena, Josie and Emily for planning and leading such a reflective collective worship.

I look forward to meeting with you next week.

Summer 2 Week 3

Sports Day, on Tuesday was a fantastic celebration of team spirit, athletic ability and enthusiasm. Thank you for all of your support and encouraging cheers.

In English, we have been busy using prepositions, verbs and adjectives to write about The Great Fire of London.  We’ve been using our reasoning skills in Maths, to solve word problems and observation skills in Science, while looking at different habitats.

Have a lovely weekend

Summer 2 Week 2

We celebrated Healthy Eating Week in Year 2, by Staying Hydrated, getting our 5-a-day, and understanding the importance of exercise on our bodies. We also prepared and enjoyed fruit kebabs and enjoyed infusing our water bottles with segments of lemon, lime and mint leaves.

Well done to Daniella, Isabelle, Andriana and Sophia, for leading a very thoughtful and reflective collective worship about love.

We also welcomed Littlebridge to our class this week. We have loved getting to know her.

Summer 2, Week 1

The children thoroughly enjoyed their class trip to Knebworth House on Tuesday. It was a lot of fun but also provided an opportunity for them to discover how plants grow in the context of a beautiful, established, working garden. They took part in a plants workshop and explored the formal and walled kitchen gardens, before enjoying a visit to the dinosaur trail and the adventure playground. Thank you Ms Coutinho, Mrs Sheahan and Miss Lawlor for support the class.

In Maths, the children have been exploring lines of symmetry. They’ve enjoyed using mirrors to find symmetrical and asymmetrical shapes.

The class have also been busy preparing for Sports Day next week and have enjoyed running the daily mile together at lunch time.

Our new History Topic is The Great Fire of London. This week, we have investigated where, how and why it started.

In RE we have learnt about different types of prayer. This helped us prepare for the Blessed Sacrament on Friday.

Have a restful weekend

Reading

Reading books will be sent home on Monday – please read together next week and return books and records on Friday.

Science

Please create an A4 information poster about healthy eating. You might like to write (in handwriting pencil please) about some of the following topics:

  1. The importance of having 5 fruits and vegetables a day.
  2. Why and how we can stay hydrated.
  3. The positive affects of exercise on our bodies and how we can be active.
  4. Why we need fibre in our diets.
  5. How and why we should reduce food waste.

Summer 1 Week 6

We have been learning how to serve in tennis this week, and have also been preparing for Sports Day by practising throwing the shot put, speed bounce and standing long jump.

This week in RE, we thought about people in our school community who are Sacramental. We asked Mrs Lopez about her faith and how shows love and care for others. Thank you for helping us with our learning and inspiring us to following Jesus’ teachings Mrs Lopez.

We have also enjoyed Spirituality week, where we ‘prayed in colour’, wrote prayers for the children in Year 4 and went on a biodiversity walk. Thank you to Miss Donatantonio and the Year 6 children, who planned and led the Prayer Stations in the hall on Thursday.

This week Ava, Abigail, Ayden and Prisha, lead collective worship about friendship and Noah, Yuvan, Kuzey and Rocco lead one about kindness. Well done.

Thank you for your generous donations to the International Pentecost Celebration, on Wednesday. It was wonderful to celebrate our rich and diverse community together.

We’ve been exploring the properties of different 2D and 3D shapes in Maths.

We have been looking closely at Vincent van Gogh’s style of painting, and have created our own Sunflower paintings.

Well done to those who ran in the Mini Marathon today.

Have a restful half term

Miss Pringle

Summer 1 Week 5

This week in Art, we have been recreating Vincent van Goghs Sunflower and starry night paintings. We focused on creating movement with paints and pastels.

Our SPaG focus has been on contractions and verbs, which we have used in our writing about Rapunzel.

In Maths we have been learning about number families.

Our RE focus has been Pentecost, we have been learning about how St Paul and St Peter were Pentecostal people. We have also considered  how spreading the word of God started with Jesus, then the disciples and is now down to us today.

This week Brooke, Amelie, Aurora and Mia lead a collective worship about families, which they planned and resourced themselves. It was beautifully delivered and enjoyed by the whole class. All of the children will have an opportunity to to do this during the summer term.

Well done to all the children that took part in the music concert this afternoon, you were all fantastic!

Have a lovely weekend

Psalm for Pentecost Mass

Send forth your Spirit, O Lord

And renew, renew the face of the earth.

O bless the Lord, my soul, bless your name.

How great are your ways in the world!

Great is God in heaven’s domain,

Gentle the breath of God’s love.

Send forth your Spirit, O Lord

And renew, renew the face of the earth.

Our days shall fall like flow’rs in the field.

Winds blow, they blossom no more.

Our God is good in justice revealed,

Gentle the way of the Lord.

Send forth your Spirit, O Lord

And renew, renew the face of the earth.

The eagle soars in strength flying high

Great is the name of the Lord.

From east to west, as day is to night,

Gentle the love of the Lord.

Send forth your Spirit, O Lord

And renew, renew the face of the earth.

Summer 1 Week 4

Thankfully the sun came out on Tuesday, meaning we were all able to enjoy the May Procession together. The class sang beautifully and were reverent, when placing their flowers around Mary. Thank you for your generous flower donations – the class gardens are already looking more colourful.

On Thursday the class attended Mass at OLASV Church to celebrate the Feast of the Ascension.

Over the past three weeks, the year 2 gardening club have been busy sowing basil and sunflowers. All of which have germinated. They have also painted mini beast pebbles to place among the flowerbeds, weeded the gardens and planted spring flowers outside the KS1 classrooms and music pavilion. It has been a pleasure to see how much the children enjoy caring for the plants and wildlife.

Hopefully, you have also received the letter explaining the details of our class trip on Tuesday 4th June 2024. Please ensure you give consent on Schoolcomms and mark food options for the day.

Please remember to pack water bottles and hats next week.

Summer 1 Week 3

Our new Geography topic is all about the village of Kampong Ayer in Brunei. This week, we have located it on the map and learnt that it is a water village. We have also compared the housing there to that in Potters Bar, and built our own water village using Lego. Next week, we will be investigating it’s climate and comparing it to the UK’s climate.

We have learnt about Pentecost  in RE this week and how we can spread God’s messages through our actions.

In Art we have revised the primary and secondary colours by mixing the primary colours blue, yellow and red. Did you know that when you mix red and yellow together, you make orange. When you mix red and blue together, you make purple and when you ix blue and green together, you make green!

Please remember: our May procession has been moved to Tuesday, 7th May! You are all welcome! Year 2 are also walking to the Church on Thursday for Mass; please make sure the children have waterproof coats/jackets as the weather seems quite unpredictable at the moment.

Have a lovely weekend,
