Year 5 – 14/06/24 | Healthy Eating Week
In Year 5 this week, we celebrated Healthy Eating Week by emphasizing Staying Hydrated, Getting our 5-a-day, and understanding the importance of dietary fibre from whole grains. When exploring the concept of 5-a-day, we discovered the significance of dietary variety and the benefits of ‘Eating the rainbow’ with fruits and vegetables to ensure a diverse range of nutrients. We prepared watermelon gazpacho to incorporate multiple fruits and vegetables into our diet at once (though it turned out a tad garlicky! 😂).
In PE, our focus was on preparing for the upcoming relay race during next Tuesday’s Sports Day, and we also began our Rounders unit, concentrating this week on bowling and batting skills.
In Maths, we wrapped up our fractions unit by learning how to find fractions of quantities. Meanwhile, in English, the children completed their persuasive letters inspired by the book “Hidden Figures”. Lastly, in RE, we began our new unit on Discipleship for this half term.
