Year 5 – 06/09/24 | Welcome back!

Welcome to Year 5!

We’ve had a wonderful start to Year 5, with three days of settling back into the swing of things and diving into our learning. Here’s a quick update on what we’ve been up to:

  • RE: As we celebrate our Year of the Apostles, we explored the qualities of the 12 Apostles and reflected on how we can embody these qualities in our own lives.
  • Maths: We’ve been learning to read and write Roman numerals and have started exploring place value up to 10,000.
  • English: We kicked off our first unit, which is based on the short film The Ridge. You can watch it below if you’d like to see it at home!
  • PE: We focused on team-building games that required communication and problem-solving skills. It was interesting to see how the children tackled the challenges I set for them!
  • Science: We started our first topic on Forces, focusing on friction. We experimented by interweaving the pages of two books and then tried pulling them apart, demonstrating the incredible effect of friction. Check out the photos of friction in action—and feel free to try this at home!

A few reminders:

  • PE days for Year 5 this term will be on Wednesdays (swimming starts the week after next) and Thursdays.
  • There will be a Meet the Teacher meeting on Tuesday at 14:45 in the hall. Please join us if you can!

Wishing everyone a fantastic weekend. See you all on Monday.

Miss Donatantonio 😊
