Who can believe we only have one week left till Easter break!? Year 1 has continued to be busy bees this week.

Religious Education

Maths

They worked so hard to understand how the = sign can be used to balance calculations (additional home learning was sent home for this last week and Mathletics was also set).

They then finished the week with addition and subtraction word problems and applied their knowledge of the ‘think 10’ method to add. Next week they will begin to compare and order numbers to 20 and use a number line to find the difference between the values.

English

Year 1 used the root words from ‘The Last Noo-Noo’ text to apply suffixes to change the meaning and tense of the words.

They also began to learn how to spell the days of the week so we can use them in our final writing piece next week.

Phonics

New grapheme – gn (gnome, design/ing/er, campaign)

Science- Materials

Oh, we had some fantastic little collectors of materials this week! The children loved hunting around the classroom to fetch certain materials, then they worked together to classify them according to their properties. However, they were less keen to put them all back again after the lesson!

~The homelearning pack sent last week was to cover this week too.

~Spelling Shed and Mathletics is free for the children to use as always and thank you for continuing to read and comment in their reading records.

~ Please remember to bring reading books in daily.

Reading

*We will change all the reading books next Thursday and Friday so the children have a new book over the Easter break.

~Children will be encouraged to bring home a library book or additional book at the end of the week to enjoy over the Easter holidays but please may they all be returned the first day back.

Have a lovely weekend and I look forward to seeing you all on  Monday to start our final week of the spring term!
