Year 5 – 20/09/24
It’s Friday afternoon again, so here’s a summary of life in Year 5 this week!
In English, we began our first Big Write—a narrative focused on Danny’s experience in The Ridge. The class worked on setting description, figurative language, ‘show don’t tell’ techniques, and varying sentence openers. These will be completed and written up in neat on Monday.
In Maths, we explored powers of 10 and partitioned numbers up to 1,000,000.
During Science, we planned an exciting investigation to answer the question: What effect does changing the surface area of a parachute have on the time it takes to fall? For next Friday, please could each child bring in a plastic bag for carrying out the investigation.
In RE, we examined tradition and human experience as sources of Revelation and what they reveal about the nature of God. The children wrote beautiful poems about where they see God in their lives.
In Art, we studied the landscape paintings of artist Kittie Jones and explored her approach to capturing nature.
For PE, we kicked off our swimming sessions on Wednesday. On Thursday, we took advantage of the lovely weather and played Diamond Cricket on the field.
In Geography with Mrs McDonald, the class learned about Mount Everest, focusing on the famous mountaineers George Mallory and Andrew Irvine, who disappeared while attempting to reach the summit.
This afternoon, Year 5 students received their logins for our home learning platforms. Their home learning, due by Wednesday (25th), is now live.
