Year 5 – 13/09/24
It’s been a lively and productive five days in Year 5 with plenty of learning happening across all subjects!
English: We’ve been focusing on making our writing more engaging by using the technique of “show, don’t tell.” We’ve been describing the senses to create vivid images and using figurative language to build atmosphere. Our inspiration comes from the setting and emotions in the video The Ridge that we’ve been watching.
Maths: We’ve continued to explore place value, working with numbers up to one million. We’ve discovered that breaking down long numbers into groups of three digits and adding commas makes them much easier to read!
RE: This week, we discussed different sources of revelation—how God is revealed to us and how we can learn more about Him. We focused on what creation reveals about the nature of God.
Art: We started our new topic on using multimedia in land and cityscapes. In our first lesson, we explored the styles and techniques of artists Vanessa Gardner and The Shoreditch Sketcher and created visual notes about them.
Science: This afternoon, we continued our exploration of forces, with a focus on air resistance. We conducted an experiment to see the difference between dropping a flat sheet of paper and a scrunched-up sheet from a height.
Geography and French: The children also began their learning about mountains in Geography and had their first French lesson with Mrs McDonald on Tuesday afternoon.
Thank you to everyone who attended the “Meet the Teacher” meeting on Tuesday! If you couldn’t make it, the PowerPoint presentation will be available on the class page soon.
And a quick reminder: Swimming starts next week, so please remember to pack swimming kits on Wednesday.
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!
