Year 5- 12/01/18

This week, we began celebrating our ‘Year of Family’ at Pope Paul. We learnt about family in different contexts, such as home, school and parish. To do this, the children created leaflets about our parish, and acted out modern versions of a parable set in school.

It would be wonderful if children could bring in pictures of their families next week to put in a book for our prayer table.

Year 5 has been full of suspense and mystery this week as we read ‘The Watertower’ by Gary Crew. The sinister picture book provoked an enthusiastic response from the children and they loved looking for the clues and patterns in both the illustrations and text.

In Science, we began learning about the life cycle of birds. The children got hands on by cracking open some eggs to look at the structure inside. We learnt some new vocabulary and saw parts of the egg we had never noticed before. It was interesting to discuss how these parts are essential in creating life for the baby chick inside.
