Year 1 Week Beginning 15.11.24
This week started off with a short remembrance service, where the children observed two minutes silence with the rest of the school; this was followed by a pilgrimage around the different classes, where the children had the opportunity to see the different remembrance prayer tables around the school.
In Phonics the children began learning some new sounds from Phase 5. You can find the link to these sounds and accompanying words here.
In English, the class retold the story of Stanley’s Stick in three parts and in Maths, the learning focus was on interpreting part-whole models and using them to writing number sentences. They also began learning about fact families- this will continue next week.
In Science, Year 1 have been learning about seasons with a particular focus on autumn. They enjoyed getting outside in the sunshine and observing signs of autumn. The children were excited to discover mushrooms, foxholes, nests, berries, animal trails and lots of different species of leaves that had fallen on their school field!
In RE, the children have been learning about the importance of preparation in relation to advent and Christmas and in PE, they continued their learning on travelling, during their gymnastics lessons.
Year 1 and 2 also began their initial rehearsals for the upcoming Christmas performance by learning some of the songs. The children are keen to practise these songs at home and so lyrics can be found here- Song lyrics
Inside you child’s reading record, you will find their login details for Spelling Shed. Some spelling games have been set which revise some sounds previously learnt- please let me know if you have any teething problems logging on etc. Please note, this is not compulsory. They will be available until next Friday, when another spelling focus will replace it.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Ms Pemberton and the Year 1 team
