Year 1 Week Beginning 10.3.25

This week in class, the children celebrated British Science Week, focussing on the theme ‘Change and Adapt’. Year 1 applied their oracy, enquiry and debating skills while doing activities from the science website Explorify and participated in an exciting whole school experiment derived from the big question:

Mrs Heymoz likes to dunk biscuits in her tea. Which biscuit will make the best dunker?

The children worked scientifically- predicting, observing, analysing and comparing results, and drawing conclusions. They also understood the importance of a fair test. The general consensus was that the shortbread biscuit was the best biscuit for dunking in tea, as it didn’t dissolve and it kept it shape and texture!

In History this week, the children continued their learning about monarchs, focussing in particular on past British queens.  The children learnt lots of amazing facts about Queen Elizabeth I,  Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II

Why not have a go at some fun science experiments at home this weekend? There are plenty of websites out there with lots of ideas using everyday things found at home. For example, https://www.fun-science.org.uk/simple-science-experiments-to-do-at-home/

Spelling focus on Spelling Shed this week are words where the digraph ‘ea’ makes an /e/ sound.

Have a lovely weekend,

Ms Pemberton and the Year 1 team
