Year 1 Blog Week 7

One World Week – Ireland

It has been a fantastic week in Year 1 this week. We have been learning all about Ireland as part of our whole school topic – One World Week. Everyone worked hard and produced some wonderful projects about Ireland and we enjoyed listening to each others presentations. In English, the children have been looking at the story of ‘The Salmon of Knowledge’. The children acted the story out, created some beautiful story maps and went on to retell the story.

In art, we made some shiny fish scales and constructed a 3d Salmon of knowledge. We also read the story – ‘Barnaby bears goes to Dublin’. The children mapped out Barnaby’s journey to Dublin and labelled the countries that make up the United Kingdom. The children were in full voice as we sang ‘Molly Malone’ and danced an Irish jig.

To finish the week the children rolled up their sleeves and put their aprons on to make some traditional Irish soda bread.  The soda bread went down very nicely at snack this morning.

Well done Year 1! I really enjoyed looking at the Ireland work – and the Molly Malone song was lovely- especially the actions. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed everything about the week (and has been signing the song all through half term!)
