Year 1 Blog Week 21

It has been Green Fingers at the ready this week. Year 1 are taking part in ‘Grow your own Potatoes 2017’. We received our potato pack on Monday and we are chitting the potatoes – waiting for sprouts to form before we plant them.

The growing theme continued as the children planted some ‘magic’ beans. We have been looking at the story of Jack and the Beanstalk in English and the children made some beautiful story frames. We placed the beans inside a sandwich bag with some water and stuck them on the window. We will watch the beans as they germinate and then we will plant them.

In maths this week we have been learning about position and direction. The children created some brilliant maps and programmed their beebots to move around the maps.

Programming the beebots looks like fun (and explain why I heard the bees move one space at a time only), very impressive. Manus has been telling me all about potatoes too this week so it all makes sense now, thank you!
