Summer 2 Week 1
Welcome back to our last half term in Reception!
This term, our topic is minibeasts. This week, we read the story the Very Hungry Caterpillar. The children have been retelling this story through role-play and sequencing. The children have made their own books about the things they like to eat. They have been printing caterpillars, drawing and cutting caterpillars and have made symmetrical butterflies. The children have been using magnifying glasses to look closely at minibeasts that they have found in the playground. They have been making homes and feeding the minibeasts. We have been learning facts about butterflies and writing wonderful fact files to describe a butterfly.
In Maths, the children have been learning to share equally between two and three people. They have been using a variety of resources to help them to understand the concept. They have been investigating different numbers to check whether the number can be shared equally between two and three people. As a link to our Literacy topic, the children have also be learning about symmetry and making symmetrical butterflies with shapes and counters.
In preparation for Sports Day, the children have been practising their running, jumping and throwing skills. Sports Day is Tuesday 11th June at 9.30am. If you do not know your child’s house colour, please let me know. If they have a PE t-shirt, wear it to school that day. Do not worry if they do not have a PE t-shirt, we can give them a coloured band. Please make sure your child has a sunhat and a water bottle.
On Friday, the children were amazing when walking down to the church following the Blessed Sacrament. Well done Reception! They enjoyed the ice-lollies after.
Have a wonderful weekend.
