Spring 1 Week 5
This week we read the story The Elves and the Shoemaker. The children designed their own shoes and described them. They designed clothes for elves and labelled them. They made elf hats and elves.
In Religion, we listened to the story Jesus Blessed the Children. The children acted out the story, used small world to retell the story and drew pictures. We talked about how the story showed God’s love to the children and then we thought about how we can show love to others. The children wore magic gloves and showed love in the class. They also planted plants to show love to God’s creation.
In Maths, we have been making 6, 7 and 8 in different ways using a variety of resources. We used tens frames, ladybirds and beanbags. Continue to practise this at home.
In Phonics, we learnt the tricky words they and my. We learnt the digraphs ng, nk, ai and ee. Please complete their phonics books and practise these sounds.
This term,we have focused on the past. We have been reading traditional stories and thinking about how things have changed. Next week, we are going to visit Seabrook Court retirement home in Potters Bar. This is an opportunity for the children to talk to older people and they will sing some songs. We will walk from school at 1015am and return to school at 11.45am. Half the class will go on Tuesday and half of the class will go on Friday. If you are available to help on either day, please let me know.
Have a wonderful weekend.
