Reception Week Beginning 8th November 2021

What a very busy week Reception have had this week!

The class started the week participating in a whole school ‘Waste Aware’ assembly, led by the Waste Aware Officer for Hertfordshire. She came to talk to the children about recycling and reusing waste materials.

Reception have now settled so well into their new learning environment that the staff felt that they were ready to eat their lunch in the hall! After a couple of practise sessions, the children felt prepared and had their first ever lunch in the dining room on Monday.

This week in class, the children have been thinking about the theme of remembrance. They observed 2 mins silence in honour of Armistice Day yesterday, listened to the Last Post and learnt about the significance of poppies.

On Wednesday, Reception had their first karate lesson and they absolutely loved it! Their instructor Michael, commented on their wonderful listening skills and learning behaviour. Lessons will commence every Wednesday. Please ensure that your child has a change of suitable footwear if they usually wear shoes to school. Plimsoles/trainers are also now needed on a Monday as we have begun to do PE in the hall. Thank you.

The class have also been busy making props and turning the outside role play area into a church this week. This has proven to be a very popular learning area, where the children have enjoyed applying what they know to their imaginary play!

Finally today, Reception took part in a live webinar, hosted by the Director of Kindness, from the company 52Lives; this centred on being kind and compassionate towards others, and has prepared us for next week’s learning focus on Anti-bullying and World Kindness Day, which falls on Saturday 13th November.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
