Reception Blog Week 15

Dear Parents,

A warm welcome back to you. Thank you all so much for your generous Christmas gifts; we really do appreciate it.

Last week we launched our online learning journeys. We hope you are enjoying them. Thank you so much to those of you who have already uploaded your own observations, commented or liked an observation added by us. If you have any problems accessing the journey, please see Mrs Theo.

This week, we introduced our new weekly ‘Challenge Books’ for the children to use during Child Initiated Learning. Inside their  books, the children were given four challenges each, with space to write new ones to extend further if needed. The class absolutely loved them! Those children who completed four or more challenges this week, were rewarded with a certificate this afternoon.

This week, we have been focussing our learning around the book ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. The children were shocked to find a crime scene at the Fairy Tale Cottage, when they came into school on Tuesday. Somebody had clearly broken in and messed up the cottage! The children decided to investigate and had lots of fun looking around for clues.

Amongst other things, the children also enjoyed exploring dry and wet porridge oats, making character masks, creating new homes for the three bears, building traps to capture Goldilocks, writing sorry letters from Goldilocks to the Three Bears, writing wanted posters and creating maps through the forest.

Next week we will be focussing on the traditional tale, ‘Little Red Riding Hood’.

Enjoy your weekend

What a great start to 2018. Just goes to show how much work goes into making their day both informative and enjoyable.
