It was good to meet with you at the Meet the Teacher meeting on Wednesday. For those that were unable to attend, the PowerPoint is available here.
It has been a wonderful week getting to know the children. They are settling into Year 6 and have thrown themselves straight into their learning, which is fantastic to see. We began the new school year with an Act of Worship in with the children reflected on their individual talents and how they can put them to use and for the good of other people.
We have jumped straight into our history topic for the half term, WW2, by starting our class novel – Goodnight Mister Tom. The children have already produced some excellent English learning based on the book. We experienced an air raid on Thursday and waited for the all-clear before coming out from the safety of our shelters!
The focus of this week’s Maths learning has been explaining their reasoning when answering questions on Place Value, and we have been looking at different ways of representing a number.
We also began our first science topic on Electricity.
In PE, we began our circuit training and the children recorded how well they did on each station. We will work on different muscle groups over the coming weeks, thus increasing their strength and stamina when they redo the circuit at the end of the unit.
In the house meetings that took place this morning, many of the Year 6s stood up and gave a speech to put themselves forward for House Captain. Well done to all the candidates – the speeches that I heard were very well delivered. The votes were counted, confirming the new House Captains as follows:
St Vincent’s House: Ellie and Rory
St Francis’ House: Jessica and Deji
St Bernadette’s House: Harvey and Madeline
St Louise’s House: Maisy and Meghan.
There is no Home Learning this week, but the children have all chosen new books this afternoon which I am expecting them to spend time reading over the weekend. On Monday, they will receive their Reading Records with this half term’s reading target in.
Have a lovely weekend.
