This week, we continued our writing focus on Wesley in Westlandia and wrote up our diary entries.  The children worked hard in ensuring that their editing skills were put to great use – they have created another wonderful piece of writing.  Well done!

On Monday we joined with Year 3’s and attended the Gymnastics Display at Dame Alice Owen School which I know that the children thoroughly enjoyed.  It was also lovely for the children to see some past students from Pope Paul School in the audience too and performing as well.  On Wednesday following a class reflection, the children joined the rest of the key stage 2 classes in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament which was led by Fr Shaun.  Some of the children from Year 4 sang and they did this with such reverence.  During this time Fr Shaun invited them to embrace the silence where they could talk to Christ in their minds but also encouraged them to just sit and focus entirely on the Blessed Sacrament.

Also this week the children had an indoor PE lesson led by Mr Cowan on team building skills and they rose to the challenge.  In RE we started to find out about Luke the Gospel writer and examine some gospel readings from Luke’s Gospel that will be the focus over the next few weeks of Advent.  National Tree Week took place this week too and as part of this the children were fact finding about why trees are special and explored the trees in the grounds of the school.

On Thursday, we had our drumming session with Caz and learnt how to beat out questions and their answers on their drums  ……Heston and Angelo were voted the best duet by the rest of the class for their drumming!

Today, Friday,  we wrote messages and letters to Francessca wishing her a speedy recovery, continued with our Tudor Narrative writing and looked back over the topic of factors and multiples in Maths.  We have started to learn our songs for our Advent service., the Year 6’s chopped up lots of fruit which you have sent in with your child(ren) and the children in Year 4 sampled the various fruits.  Many of the children enjoyed the kiwi fruit, pineapple and pomegranate!  and I was delighted to see that many of the children had a go at eating them even though they had not seen the fruits before.

Homework this weekend are the words and songs for the Advent Service that have been given on the sheet sent home this evening.

This week we have focused on our school themes of Anti-Bullying and the UK Parliament.

The children completed some research for homework last weekend on Parliament and from this home learning, they have shown what they can discuss what  the UK Parliament is and what democracy means.  As a class, the children voted for two members to represent Year 4 in our school parliament.  The two children with the highest votes were:  Angelo and Heather.  Congratulations to them on their new positions.

On Thursday, the children had their second drumming session in which they participated with such enthusiasm and today, Friday, it was odd socks day and one in which the children participated with excitement.
Homework this week will be:

Spellings, Reading, Maths (Mathletics) and SPAG online.

Due to my error in programming the Mathletics, the children were not able to gain access to their learning activities.

I have solved the problem (as there had been a difficulty in logging on) and would like them to complete as many of the multiplication (timetables) lessons that have been set for them.  I thank you for your patience with the technical blip that occurred!

PLEASE DO NOT FORGET: we need white contributions for our class hamper box that will be part of the Main Raffle at the Christmas Fayre.  Thank you to the children who have brought items in.

UK Parliament Week

This week Year 4 have been focusing on the USA.

We’ve learnt about the native Americans, the physical features of the country, made our own dream catchers, totem poles, american muffins, experienced line dancing, designed our own american 100 dollar bill  and in RE researched the life of  St Kateri who was made a saint in 2012.

This afternoon the children did PE with coach Dugan and worked in teams using the ball skills that they have been developing.

It was lovely to see so many parents from Year 4 this morning at our Harvest Assembly and in class afterwards allowing the children to share their  work with you.

We would like to invite you into the classroom on Tuesday 6th November when the children would like to perform to you some of the tunes that they have been learning on the recorder.

Well, what a busy week!

On Monday, the children worked alongside the Reception Class and designed their own religious artefacts.  They worked fabulously together and were very proud of the designs they created.

As our focus has been St Paul VI, the children have been doing a lot of work based on his life.  The children wrote up their lovely Pope Paul VI prayers and they will be added to a special class prayer book.

In Maths the children carried out a number investigation using their number skills with competence.  They had such fun doing it.

Today we have been celebrating the canonization of Pope Paul VI and the day began with a special assembly in which all the children, teachers and parents were presented with St Paul VI prayer cards.  Afterwards, we joined the rest of the school in the large playground, where we had some juice and chocolate!

This afternoon, we witnessed the release of a dozen doves and flew our flags with pride.  The children created their own ‘peace’ flags.

Next week is One World Week and we will be looking at the USA.  The children have their home learning in their books.
