Blog week 33

This week, the children have been learning about time and non-fiction text. They enjoyed using the laptops to research facts about tigers. In Science, they carried out an investigation based around the question ‘Do all apples have the same amount of seeds?’ They were surprised by their findings. What do you think?

Blog week 32

This week the children have been learning how to identify trees by their leaves and bark. They had lots of fun playing ‘leaf bingo’ and taking bark rubbings from trees. They matched this to an identification sheet and carefully drew each leaf in to their books. Well done to all the children who took part in the phonic challenge – we are so proud of you all! Thank you parents for your support in this. In History, Year 1 have been learning about Queen Elizabeth 1 they took part in role play and hot seating of significant events.

Mass and Blessed Sacrament Procession

Well done to all our wonderful children who took part in our celebrations on Friday. Your reverence and participation throughout the whole service was exemplary; you  were a credit to your parents and to our school. Thank you to Father Shaun for leading us in worship and to all the teachers for preparing the children so well.

Carnival Time!

Thank you to all the children and parents who came to support our school today! The children looked fabulous in their poppy T shirts and the paper poppies and the crowns added a splash of colour to our walking float. I hope you all had a chance to visit the art exhibition and see some of the beautiful paintings on display. Well done to our football team for reaching the final today and playing so passionately for the school. We are all very proud of you! Thank you to all the staff for their hard work today. A special thanks goes to Miss Pringle for organising the football team, Mrs Theo for preparing the art work for the exhibition and Mrs McNamara and Mrs Joyce for driving car loads of equipment to and from school early this morning! A real team effort!

Blog week 31

Year 1 had a fun packed week starting with ‘grandparents celebration’ morning. It was so lovely to see all the grandparents who were able to come. The children were thrilled to have you here! For spirtuality week,  Year 5 and Year 1 wrote prayers for eachother and got to exchange these during an Act of Worship held in class. It was a beautiful moment watching the exchange of flowers and words. On Thursday, the children went into the hall to take part in the various sprituality activities in the hall. This was a time for reflection, stillness and peace; thinking about all those in our hearts. The children displayed reverence throughout the afternoon and had time to reflect.  Lastly, we say goodbye to Hebe. We shall keep you and your family in our prayers and look forward to seeing you in the new term. We also say goodbye to Miss Webb who goes on to embark on her new teaching career. Good Luck – We shall miss you!

Blog week 30

We have had another great week in Year 1! In maths we have been learning about measures and engaged with a range of measuring equiment. In English we focused on the story ‘The tiger who came to tea’. The children adapted the story to include new characters and story events. They are now confident with using adjectives, question marks and exclamation marks in their stories. Next week, they will be writing their final piece for our classroom display. In science they planted beans and carried out an investigation to see which bean will grow in different conditions where they will be observing over time. On Friday, to celebrate the royal wedding, the children wore suits and princesses outfits. They enjoyed a special treat; ice-cream! I wonder who ate the chocolate ones?IMG_0634 IMG_0635 IMG_0643 IMG_0638 IMG_0640 IMG_0642 IMG_0645 IMG_0646 IMG_0647 IMG_0648 IMG_0650 IMG_0653 IMG_0663 IMG_0664 IMG_0674 IMG_0675 IMG_0676 IMG_0665 IMG_0685 IMG_0686 IMG_0662

Walk to School Week: 21st May – 25th May

We are encouraging pupils, parents or carers to swap four wheels for two feet and give walking a go this Walk to School Week 21st to 25th May.

As part of the challenge this year, pupils will be encouraged to wear the shoes that make them happiest – whether that is the brightest, jazziest or craziest shoes they own, to celebrate Living Streets’ Happy Shoesday on Tuesday 22nd May when we will be celebrating.

Our message in school is that walking to school is a brilliant way to get active and healthy. It’s also a great opportunity for our children to learn vital road safety skills and make sure they’re alert and ready to learn at the start of a new day. Walk to School Week is part of National Walking Month organised by ‘Living Streets’.

This year Living Streets is urging families to pledge to walk to school via their website. Please bring a suggested donation of £1.00, to be sent to Living streets, the UK’s only charity for everyday walking. Living Streets say:

  •  parents who walk find the journey to school less stressful,
  •  petrol bill goes down, and pollution
  •  fewer traffic queues and parking issues
  • children perform better at school
  • Children & parents feel healthier and fitter.
  • Teachers report that those pupils who walk to school are more attentive once they reach their desks.

Over 400,000 pupils took part in Walk to School Week 2017 – and this year is shaping up to be even bigger.
