The God who speaks through Creation..

Today is the start of our annual Spirituality week and the theme for this year is “The God who speaks.”

To begin our special week we are going to think and remember each other and look forward to when we can all see each other again in school.

We pray for each other today and remind ourselves that God loves us all and we are his unique creation.

God speaking through creation or the natural world means that when we look up at the stars or gaze at the bluebells, we see the fingerprints of God. The more we fix our eyes on the wonder of creation, the more we must conclude that these things could not make themselves.

Class Teachers to lead:

Remember your class friends today

God loves you very much and you are his unique creation. Listen as you hear the names of all your class read out”.

God who made the earth

By Sarah Bett Rhodes

God who made the earth,

The air, the sky, the sea

Who gave the light its birth,

Careth for me.

God who made the grass.

The flower, the fruit, the tree,

The day and night to pass.

Careth for me.

God who made the sun,

The moon, the star, is he

Who, when life’s clouds come on,

Careth for me.

Write a prayer entitled ‘God is Glorious’.  Here is an example to help you.

God is glorious in the falling of the green oak leaf.

God is Glorious in the rainbow in the evening sky.

God is glorious in the blackbird singing in the spring air.

REFLECTION ON MY DAY

How am I feeling at the end of today?

What have I most enjoyed today?

What am I thankful for today?

When was I most peaceful today?

What are my hopes for tomorrow?

Wednesday Word – 6th Sunday of Easter (A)

Each week, a Year 6 Liturgy Leader will be guiding you through the Wednesday Word. Take the time to follow it as a family and reflect on each Sunday’s Gospel reading.

This week, Elysia has prepared a beautiful powerpoint to take you through yesterday’s Gospel. Click here to open it.

May Procession 2020

Today we honour Our Lady with our special May procession.

Bring flowers of the rarest, bring flowers of the fairest

From garden and woodland and hillside and vale;

Our full hearts are swelling, our glad voices telling

The praise of the loveliest flower of the vale.

O Mary, we crown you with blossoms today,

Queen of the Angels and Queen of the May.

May Procession 2020

May Procession 2020

Due to our school closure we will be unable to have our usual May Procession. However we would like to try and have a remote celebration to honour Mary during this month of May.

Please send a photo or 2 second video clip of your child presenting/holding up a flower/blossom, to your class email address. We will then use the images to make a virtual May Procession. It would be lovely if parents would also like to join us!

The dead line to receive photos/video clips is Friday 1st May at 12noon.

The May Procession will take place on Monday 4th May at 11am.

Access via all the class blogs

Thank you for your continued support.

Holy Week Quiz for FRHC. Primary School (Key Stage 2).FK.01.04.2020

Holy Week Quiz Younger Children (Key stage 1).Fk.01.04.20

Message from Francesca Khaliq at Our Lady and St Vincent Church

Dear families,

I hope you are all keeping safe and well during this unsettling time.

As it is Holy Week next week I am attaching some quizzes for the children to do, there is one for key Stage 1 (reception to Year 2) and Key Stage 2 (Year 3 to Year 6). Entries will need to be sent back to Deacon Axcel by Tuesday 14th April at  pbalpha@rcdow.org.uk, so just put the answers into an email, or you can print the quiz and fill it in and post them to the parish, whatever is easier for you. Axcel will put all the names into a hat and pick a winner, the prize is a £20 voucher, so worth having a go, please encourage them to take part; the answers will be emailed out when the winner is announced.  There is a quiz for older children in secondary school (Key Stage 3), you can request this quiz by emailing pbalpha@rcdow.org.uk and Deacon Axcel will email it to you, there are £20 gift vouchers for the winner of each of the three quizzes.

It is wonderful that we have the capability of live streaming (remember you can access our live streaming by logging on to our website olasv.org.uk and clicking on live streaming link) but sad to see the benches empty without all our wonderful parishioners. So we would like you all to send a photo of your family so Fr Shaun and Deacon Axcel can print them out and stick them on the benches in church, so we are all there together. So please take a family photo and email it to pbalpha@rcdow.org.uk

I have prepared a Children’s Liturgy for the children to do on Good Friday at home, all the information has been emailed to parents via schoolcomms, there is a run through and 3 attachments for the liturgy, have a read through and see if you can spend some time with the children to do this on Good Friday. Please don’t feel obliged to do it all if you can’t or if you don’t have the resources but have a look before Friday to see if you can get anything ready in advance, you will just need access to a laptop/IPad or mobile to watch the videos and access the music.

I pray that you and your families keep safe and well during this time.

God bless

Fran

Well done parents!

Dear Parents,

Well done ! You are amazing! It has been wonderful to see how you have all responded to the challenge of home schooling! Thank you for sending photos of your children taking part in such a range of learning activities. Do have a look at the blogs for more photos. Thank you also to our tremendous staff team who are working hard in school and at home to support our community.

The school continues to be open after the Easter holidays for children whose parents are critical workers and children in vulnerable groups. There will be no home learning set on the blogs during the two week holiday but please encourage your children to take part in the Whole School Easter holiday Project. Details are in this newsletter.

As we approach Holy Week, the most important week in the church’s year, please join with our community and  access the live streaming via the parish website www.olasv.org.uk to unite in remembering the events leading up to Jesus’ death and then joyful Resurrection on Easter Sunday. Do have a look at  https://www.wintershall-education.com/resources/resources-family/

Tomorrow we are invited to join with other catholic schools in the area to celebrate the end of term and the beginning of Holy Week via the live streaming. In September we visited Nicholas Breakspear School and took part in their Community Mass with several other local Catholic schools. Each school was given a jigsaw piece to decorate.  During Mass we were invited to complete this jigsaw and it made a heart.  This heart symbolises the ‘love’ we should have for each other and humanity.  It is also one of the Gospel values which Jesus taught us.  It is a very poignant value to have and to express during this difficult time.  The heart jigsaw has been delivered to the parish and will be used as part of the liturgy. Please try and join us!

Don’t forget to join in the Palm Sunday live streaming and display your HOSANNA poster and leaves in your window!

Sending you all every good wish for the Easter break!

Christmas Celebrations

It has been a very busy last week of term! On Monday we were treated to a concert by our music pupils from Year 5 and 6.  We enjoyed listening to singers, pianists , guitarists and string players. Well done to everyone who took part and a special thank you to Mrs Moutoussi, Mrs Martin, Mrs Guerin and Mr Nicola for preparing and supporting the children.

On Tuesday the whole school enjoyed the production of The Sleeping Beauty at the Wyllyotts Theatre. The children had a fabulous time even though there were some scary parts. It was wonderful to be together as a school enjoying the spectacle.

Our choir have been in action this week bringing joy to the local community. They sang to the residents of Greenhills Care Home yesterday and on Tuesday brought smiles to the office workers at Canada life. Well done children! You sang like angels!

Wednesday brought a fantastic Christmas lunch and talent show. Well done to Thomas and Ellis in Year 2 who came in first place with their comedy act; your jokes were great!

Today we celebrated the fourth Sunday of Advent, lighting the 4th candle on our Advent wreath. Baby Benjamin ( Anna in Year 1’s brother) took the starring role as Jesus as we reflected on the nativity story.

On behalf of all the staff, I would like to thank you for all your very generous Christmas gifts. It is wonderful to know that we are supported by such an active parent body.

I wish you all a very happy and holy Christmas and look forward to seeing you all in the new year.

Potters Bar Carnival

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us in our school walking float on Sunday at the Potters Bar Carnival. It was a wonderful occasion and a witness to the fantastic parent support for our school. The children looked wonderful in their costumes and well done to the parents and teachers who truly reflected the work of the NHS! It was great to gain First Place!
