Autumn 2 Week 6

This week, we have been learning about the Christmas Story. We listened to the story and the children enjoyed remembering what characters they played in our class nativity. The children made stables, people and characters to retell the story. They painted, cut, and decorated a box. The children made a book to retell the story.

Cara had the travelling nativity from the church and brought it to school on Monday. The children enjoyed naming the characters in the box and retelling the story. Thank you to Cara’s mum who sent in biscuits for the children to enjoy!

In Maths, we have been learning about the number 4 and 5. The children have been learning to make these numbers by adding two numbers together. They have demonstrated their understanding using natural resources, cherry models, fives frame and lots of other resources.

We have had fun in our elf workshop, wrapping and delivering presents. If you need help wrapping presents for Christmas, the children are very good.

On Thursday, we had a great day at our Christmas party! First we saw Father Christmas and were given some chocolates. We played pass the parcel, sleeping lions, musical statues, musical chairs and musical bumps. The children played games in the hall with their reading partners and had cake.

If your child is a Monday reader, please send their book in on Tuesday.

See you on Monday at the church at 9.30am.

Have a lovely weekend.

Friday, 13th December 2024

What a week for the children in Year 2!

Super well done for your amazing Nativity play on Tuesday AND Wednesday! Your performance was brilliant and it has been wonderful to watch you so animated and happy on stage. All your hard work during the rehearsals was worth it in the end! I couldn’t be prouder of you all!

On Thursday, we had our Christmas Fun day when the children met Father Christmas and enjoyed party games before heading into the hall for cakes and tattoos. Thank you for all the parent helpers for their hard work; the class had a lovely time.

Please remember that on Monday, we are watching the Panto so the children need to come to the Church car park at 9.30am and be registered. If your child attends breakfast club, members of the staff will walk them down to the Church. As we are walking back to school later, please make sure the children have appropriate coats with a hood.

Have a lovely weekend,

Ms Varga

Autumn 2 Week 5

We have started a new writing unit this week, based on the book ‘Coming Home’ written by Michael Morpurgo. The class have explored what home means to them, discussed the feelings of the main character and used their oracy skills to perform sections of the book.

We have continued with multiplication and division in Maths. I am pleased that the class are becoming more confident with the 6 and 9 time tables. Please continue to use TTRS and Mathletics to support this learning.

In RE we have read Luke’s account of the Nativity story and written acrostic poems about Jesus. Well done to the children who lead beautiful collective worships this week.

The class read, sang and acted brilliantly on Wednesday at the Advent Service. Thank you for you support on this special evening.

Our Design and Technology unit ‘Structures’ is well under way. This week the class made waving structures.

Have a lovely weekend

Friday 6th December 2024

Another week has flown by and the highlight had to be the Advent service. We were very proud of the Year 6’s achievements in singing, reading and acting. The result was a beautiful reflection of preparing for the birth of Jesus.

On Monday afternoon, the children who have lessons with Mrs Martin, Mrs Guerin and Mrs Moutoussi performed beautifully to their peers and parents and carers who came to watch them.

In English, we have now planned for our final write of our unit. Next week, the children will produce a duel narrative, focusing on creating tension and suspense.  In Maths, the children have been looking back on their understanding of fractions from Year 5 and have coped well with the challenges of the reasoning questions they have been given.  In Art, the children have returned to continue with their work on activism and next week they will be looking at stencilling to see how it aids their message to be put across to others.

This week, a group of children also spent time in the dining room prepping some culinary delights – shortbread the Mary Berry way!  The whole class sampled the outcome which disappeared almost instantly.  Well done to Rian, Charlie, Julia, Sarah, Francine and Nathan who were the cooks this week.

Have a wonderful weekend

Year 5 – 06/12/24

In Science, we explored the Solar System by modelling the relative sizes of the planets and then heading outside to demonstrate their distances from the Sun. We noticed that as the planets get farther from the Sun, the distance between them increases. The rocky planets were clustered close together, while the gas and ice giants were spread much farther apart.

On Monday afternoon, we enjoyed a fantastic music concert featuring pianists, string players, and singers from Year 5 and Year 6. Well done to all the performers, and thank you to the rest of the children for being such a supportive audience!

In English, we completed our suspense narratives, and in Maths, we explored multiples, factors, prime numbers, and square numbers. In PE, we focused on pivoting and footwork in netball.

On Wednesday evening, Year 5 joined the rest of KS2 to lead a beautiful Advent Service at the church. The children were excellent, and many people commented on the prayerfulness and joy they brought to the evening. A huge well done to everyone involved!

Our child-led Collective Worship this week was led by Gabriella, Isabella, Leo, and Ruben. Together, we reflected on how we can ‘prepare the way’ for Jesus during Advent.

Each morning, we’ve been praying the Jesse Tree and have so far learnt about Creation, Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, and Jacob. The children have written thoughtful reflections on what these stories mean to them.

Home learning for this week is:

Maths Mathletics assignments:

·         Common multiples

·         Common factors

Reading 5 tests on Readtheory or 20 minutes of reading per day
Spelling We will carry last week’s spellings over into another week as we didn’t get a chance to practise them this week

Log on to Spelling Shed using your EdShed login, and play a variety of games to practise this week’s spelling rule: Words ending ‘-ably’ and ‘-ibly’

·         reliably

·         terribly

·         dependably

·         visibly

Year 1 Week Beginning 2.12.24

This week in RE, the children learnt about The Visitation- the biblical account of Mary’s visit to her cousin Elizabeth, who was pregnant with John the Baptist, and their exchange of greetings and praise. The children demonstrated their understanding of the story by performing it through role play in front of their friends.

In Phonics, the children learnt the next four Phase 5 sounds- theses can be found here.

Please see Spelling Shed for this week’s spelling games.

In Maths, Year 1 have continued their learning on addition, where they have been problem solving and writing their own addition stories.

The children have been working so hard in preparation for the performance next week. Please remember to send in your child’s named clothing on Monday morning, if you haven’t already done so. We will be trying on costumes on Monday afternoon.

Thank you for your support.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend,

Ms Pemberton and the Year 1 team

Autumn 2 Week 5

The second candle of Advent is purple. This candle represents Peace. This week, the children listened to the story Peace At Last. They made daddy bear and they made a bed for daddy bear using boxes and different materials. Then they drew pictures of the activities they like to do when they have some peace. We also read the story Five minutes Peace and talked about how we need to give peace to others.

The highlight of the week was our class Nativity – The Twinkly Nativity. I was proud of  the children for their amazing singing, dancing and clear speaking. The children have worked very hard to learn all their lines, songs and dances. We hope you enjoyed it! You will received a link to watch it together at home.

The children have been working hard on revising the Phase 2 sounds and applying them to reading and writing. Please continue to practise at home and practise reading and spelling the tricky words.

On Friday, the children decorated our shed to make Santa’s workshop.

If you have and small boxes or shoe boxes, please send them in on Monday.

Lots of children are not eating enough at lunchtime, therefore they are very hungry in the afternoon. Please talk about the lunch options with your child and if they do not like any of the options, please send a packed lunch.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Friday, 6th December 2024

Well done for another busy week, Year 2!

In Maths, we consolidated our 2nd  strategy for addition, ‘Think 10’, before moving on to adding 3 numbers and adding to the next ten. In English, we have worked towards a list poem using expanded noun phrases for a chosen colour as part of our ‘The day the crayons quit’ unit. In RE, we carried on our learning of the Annunciation with a lesson on the Visitation according to Luke, as well as, further extending our understanding of the religious signs and symbols of Advent and Christmas.

We spent time on rehearsing for our Nativity production as well as being the audience for Reception’s  Nativity Dress rehearsal.

But the highlight of our week must have been our class trip to St Albans Cathedral on Thursday.

During our first workshop, we went on a trail around the Cathedral to gain a better understanding of symbols of Advent and Christmas, such as the cross, an Advent calendar, Advent wreaths, Christmas trees and greeting cards, as well as the Nativity scene.

Later on in our workshop, the children had an opportunity to look at the Liturgical colours of various garments worn by the Bishops as well dressing up into one of the Nativity roles and act out the story of Jesus’ birth.

After some lovely lunch, we participated in a Christmas clay workshop, putting our learning into action by designing some learnt symbols and  sticking them on clay tiles.

Thank you to Mrs Badini, Mrs Orsi-Harper, Mrs Treiber and Mrs Moccia for accompanying us on this trip!

Please remember, we have a filmed dress rehearsal for our Nativity on Tuesday, 10th December and another final performance on Wednesday, 11th December. Thank you for those of you who brought in your costumes; if you haven’t, please make sure it is in School on Monday.

Have a lovely weekend,

Ms Varga
