Friday, 15th July 2022

This week, the children in Year 4 wrote and published their Stitch Head inspired narratives, which turned out great. They revised calculations and key facts in Maths and thought about changes to our environment that could affect habitats in Science. On Wednesday, some children from class participated in a music concert, where they performed beautifully, showcasing their many talents. Well done, Naomi, Thomas, Julia, Fern, Lena, Elsa, Catherine, Christina, Amber, Lucy, Nikola, Christoph and Siena! On Thursday, the class took part in a Transition activity, where they had an opportunity to spend some time in their new classroom with their new class teacher.

Friday was then dedicated to Fun, with the children participating in activities such as: go-karts, bouncy castle, nerve shoot out, hook the duck, water sponge experience, glitter tattoos, face painting and the fruit and cake station. They finished the day with an ice lolly!

What a lovely way to end their last full week in school!

Next week is going to be a really hot one, so please make sure you send in water bottles and sun hats. Please also send in one strong tote bag as the children will start taking home some of their books, art, etc. Thank you.

Have a lovely weekend,

Ms Varga

w.b. 11th July

What a fun-packed week!

The children adored the trip to Southend on Tuesday. I was so proud of their behaviour and the respect they showed to all. They shared their fantastic knowledge about the seaside,  its features and even asked to pick up the litter they found so they could protect our land and seas.

The last home learning was sent home on Thursday and contains the last of the Phonic sounds, fraction learning and our most recent guided reading piece. I have also set some Mathletics for fraction consolidation. Mathletics, Spellingframe and Letterjoin logins will continue to work throughout the summer; please ask me if you need log-in details again.

Please see the PowerPoint below for pictures of Southend.

Please remember to apply sunscreen next week, and bring plenty of water and a hat; it’s going to be hot, hot, hot!

*Please bring a plastic bag in so we can send exercise books home*

Not long left now, see you on Monday for our last week together 🙁

Reception Week Beginning 4.7.22

Dear Parents,

Miss Pemberton and Mrs Steff have been unwell this week and as a result there is no blog today. Please find photos of the trip to London Zoo via tapestry.

Thank you to Mrs Gymer who has been leading the learning since Wednesday and for the support from our LSA team. Today, in assembly, the children were able to tell me all about their trip and they named a whole host of animals that they had seen at the zoo. Thank you to the parents who supported the children on the day.

Have a lovely weekend.

Summer 2 w.b. 04.07.2022

In R.E. Year 1 acted out the story of The Good Samaritan and tried hard to understand the message Jesus gave when he told it. They then tried hard to re-tell the story in their own words.

Year 1 have moved onto whole class reading sessions in preparation for Year 2 and have really enjoyed exploring ‘The Gingerbread Bread Man’ especially when they ate him at the end!

The children enjoyed learning about wild and common plants in Science this week; they made fantastic investigators and identified many plants.

They used all the fallen leaves and petals to create a perfume station so they didn’t go to waste and of course the snails got involved too…

In maths the children are beginning to learn o’clock and half past times. Please use Mathletics to support this learning further.

Please see the Phonics home learning pack in their bags for the sounds learnt this week; they’re getting trickier and trickier but they are all doing so well!

P.E. kits for Monday (P.E. Tennis) and Tuesday (seaside) next week.

Reading books and reading records will be collected in from Monday 11th July and guided reading extracts will be sent home instead. This will enable us to gather the reading assessments and records to pass on to Year  2.  Year 1 will continue with their daily class guided reading sessions until the last week of school rather than individual readers.

Enjoy the hot weekend,

Miss Lambie

Summer 2 Week 5

A wonderful week in Year 3 with lots of hard work and fun. In Maths, the children have been practising column addition and subtraction and developing their reasoning skills.

In English the children have been learning how to apply prepositions and conjunctions to their writing.

In Science, we have been learning about the functions of different parts of the plants. We learnt that leaves evaporate water but we could not see this when observing leaves. The children thought about how we could find evidence that this happens. They decided to tie a clear bag to a leaf and then observe it to see if the bag collected water. The bag did collect water!

In PE the children have mastered the skill of rounders and have been playing fantastic games where they work well as a team. I was impressed at how well the children worked together.

In D&T the children planned how they are going to make their memory box. They thought about the resources they would use and why. They wrote a step by step by step guide of how to make it.

Well done to Aanay who played the guitar in the KS2 Music concert.

On Wednesday, some of the children sang in the choir or played in the orchestra. They were all wonderful!

On Friday,  we said goodbye to Dale. We were lucky to have him to support the children with their First Holy Communion preparations and their Religion learning.

It has been great to see more children logging into timestables rockstars this week. Our top three children this week are Sophie, Aanay and Nathan. Well done!

Friday, 8th July 2022

This week, in Year 4, the children named, described and classified triangles in Maths, whilst in English, after looking at expanded noun phrases and similes for description, they explicitly planned  for their last narrative. They will write their stories next week, across 3 days, coming up with an alternative resolution to our class book, Stitch Head.

In Science, the class carefully designed questions, creating their own classification key to separate different animals (vertebrates). In History, the children used the artefacts from the museum we visited last week, to interpret them and explain aspects of life in Tudor time. In RE, we looked closer at the story of the Good Samaritan and wrote our own version, appropriate for 2022.

On Wednesday, we had the pleasure to watch Mount Grace School’s production of Mary Poppins, which was a real treat. The children were very well behaved and supportive.

As next Friday, the children participate in our Summer Fun Day, I would like to send home the Tudor house projects on Thursday. I know many of you walk with the children, so this is just a note, to give you time to prepare appropriately. Some of the houses are rather large 🙂

Once more, thank you for your amazing support with this project, the children can be very proud of their work.

Have a lovely weekend,

Ms Varga

Children, this weekend is the last push for you to practise songs and actions, as well as going over your lines.

Summer 2 Week 5

It’s been a wonderful week in Year 2, with lots of new learning and fun. In Maths, the children have learnt how to turn clockwise and anticlockwise to turn north, east, south and west. Thank you Leo B for bringing in your compass to share with the class.

In English the children have been learning how to use imperative (bossy) verbs and followed instructions to make  jam sandwiches.

In Science, we have been learning about seeds and how the different parts of it help the plant grow.

Well done to Raphaella, Eloise and Leo S who played the piano in the KS1 Music concert. You were all fantastic!

Our CAMs Project

It has definitely been another busy week in Year 5!

This week the focus has been our CAMs project in Design and Technology and although some of the children have found taking their design and making it a slight challenge, they have been resilient in their approach and as you can see from the photos above, their designs are coming along!  This project is giving the children the opportunity to be practical, solve problems and gain skills for the future.  Trial and error is a huge element of Design and Technology and enables children to build resilience and focus on the process as much as the outcome. The children have been selecting a range of equipment and materials in order to create their product and I am so pleased to see them adapting their design if things aren’t going as planned.

On Tuesday the class went to see the production of Beauty and the Beast at Nicolas Breakspear which they thoroughly enjoyed and on Wednesday some children attended the production of Mary Poppins at Mount Grace School. Again, they enjoyed this experience to watch children at the school (some past pupils of Pope Paul) take part.

A BIG well done must go to the choir and orchestra members who performed at the Wyllyotts Theatre on Wednesday evening.  They have been busy rehearsing for many weeks and their commitment ensured that the performance was a massive success!!

On Thursday, we were then treated to another concert – our guitarists from Year 5 performed in front parents and other family members and friends and children from Key Stage 2.  Performing in front of an audience can be a very nervous experience BUT the children played really well.

Wishing you and your families a lovely weekend.  It’s going to be a sunny one!
