Year 6 – 21/07/22

And that’s a wrap!

What a week we’ve had! In amongst surviving the heat, this week’s highlights have included spending time with Reception partners, having a very special Leavers’ Mass at the church on Wednesday, enjoying the pizza party yesterday afternoon and getting shirts and yearbooks signed this morning.

Thank you, children, for all the memories that you’ve given me over the past year. I will miss you all and I wish you a fantastic summer which you thoroughly deserve. Have an amazing time at secondary school, and please do say ‘hi’ to me if you see me out and about – it really does make my day when I see past pupils!

Thank you, parents, for your generosity, kind words, and support that you have shown – not just this week, but all year. It does not go unnoticed and it is so appreciated.

Lots of love,

Miss Donatantonio xx

Reception Week Beginning 21.7.22

It’s been a week to remember- record breaking heat and lots of emotional goodbyes!

The Reception team would like to finish the year by saying a huge thank you for choosing to send your child to Pope Paul Catholic School and for trusting us with your wonderful children. They are a very special class who have been lots of fun and an absolute pleasure to teach; we will miss every single one of them!

Thank you also for your overwhelming generosity and for all the beautiful and touching words that you have written to us in cards, or in response to your child’s report.

Wishing you all a well deserved rest.

Looking forward to hearing all the news in September!

With love,

Ms Pemberton, Ms Gymer and Ms Steff

Thursday 21st July, 2022

This last week has meant that the children have adapted to a hotter learning environment than normal and they did this with such maturity. In D&T most of the children completed their CAMs project.  Well done to them for their resilience throughout each session.  As a class, we discussed what their successes were and areas to focus on next year when we have our next Design and Technology project!  I have a video in the making and will share that with them in September and on our Year 6 Blog.

Mrs Lines, Ms Hilton and myself have enjoyed assisting your child with their learning and thank you for the report comments that were returned to us this week.

Thank you for the commitment you have towards your child’s learning and the generous gifts and flowers that we received yesterday and today.

Wishing you a wonderful summer – we are looking forward to hearing about all your holiday adventures in September!

God Bless.

Mrs McNamara, Mrs Lines and Ms Hilton

Here are some of the finished products!

Last Week in Year 3!

The heat did not stop us this week. We made memory boxes in Design and Technology. The children supported the children in Reception Class and we made cake pops.

It has been an absolute pleasure to teach your children twice! It has been wonderful to watch them grow and flourish this year. Thank you for supporting your children throughout the year.

Thank you for the generous gifts, cards and thoughtful words.

Have a wonderful summer!

Mrs Carey

Last Week in Year 1!

What a fantastic week for our last week.

Year 1 tried hard to keep cool in the heat.

I would like to thank Year 1 and their families for making my first year at Pope Paul so enjoyable. You have showed me great kindness and support throughout the year and I will miss you all but look forward to seeing you again in September.

Thank you for all the generous gifts; I will need another car to fit them all in!

The children have been amazing and it’s been wonderful to see them grow throughout the year.

The Year 1 team would like to wish you all safe and happy summer holiday and look forward to your return in September.

Many thanks again,

and for the last time,

Fun Day

Year 5 had a fabulous time today. They took part in go karting, wet sponge throwing, face painting and much more. Thank you so much to FOPPS for organising. Take a look at our pictures to see some of the things we got up to.

Please ensure that your child is in school with a school cap and water bottle and a bag (to take home their exercise books and art work).

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

Mrs Lines and Mrs McNamara

There is no home learning this week.

Reception Week Beginning 11.7.22

What a fantastic Fun Day the children have had  today!

They started the day by having a jump around on the bouncy castle, followed by a Nerve Gun Shoot out!

After a short break to refuel with some fruit, the class had their first ever go at playing on the KS1 tower. This was quickly followed by a very thrilling go-karting session!!! We definitely have a few budding Lewis Hamiltons amongst the children!

Following this, Reception had some beautiful, sparkly tattoos applied and went back to the classroom to cool down and get ready for lunch- this was the perfect time to watch the BBC adaptation of The Snail and the Whale,  the book that the class focussed on a couple of weeks ago.

In the afternoon, the children were collected by their Year 6 reading partners and together, they choose from a range of fun activities. This included: face painting, the sponge water experience, splat the rat, hook the duck game and many more. They also had some delicious treats- fruit kebabs, cakes, ice lollies and sweets.

I’m sure they will all sleep very well tonight!

Thank you for supporting this day!

Just to let you know that we will be collecting in all of the children’s reading books and records next week. If your child’s reading day falls on a Thursday or Friday, please being them in on Wednesday. Thank you.

Have a wonderful weekend in the sunshine.

Stay sun safe!

Year 6 – 15/07/22

Wow, Year 6 – what a week you’ve had! Your performances on Monday morning and Tuesday evening were phenomenal! You gave the performance of your lives and did so with smiles on your faces. I am so incredibly proud of you all.

To end a wonderful week, we had our Friday Funday today, and fun it most definitely was! We kicked off the day with the go-karts, then enjoyed obstacle races, the bouncy castle and nerf gun shooting. The afternoon consisted of the Year 6s taking their reading partners around the various activities on offer, including face paints, Splat the Rat, Hook a Duck, the sponge water experience, indoor games, another obstacle course, and fruit kebabs, cake and sweets. The day ended with a refreshing ice lolly. Thank you so much to the FOPPS for a fantastic day – everyone had a blast!

Here is the tutorial for the friendship bracelets we made – a few of you were asking for it:

Continue enjoying the sun this weekend, and I’ll see you on Monday! Please wear your school caps and bring your water bottles and bags in so that you can empty your trays and take books home.

Summer 2 Week 6

Fun Day has been fantastic!

Our morning started with a bouncy castle and a Nerve Gun Shoot out! Then we chose glitter tattoos and tested our driving skills on the go-karts.

The fun continued after lunch with face painting, a fruit and sweet stall, hook the duck, splat the rat and many other traditional fun fair games.

Everyone loved the water sponge and obstacle stations too. At the end of the day we all had our faces painted and enjoyed an ice lolly together.

Thank you to all the parent helpers for making the Fun Day one to remember!

Have a lovely weekend

Miss Pringle

Please return any library or book band books next week and bring your reading record in as I will be passing them on to Mrs Carey. No home learning has been set this week.

Summer 2 Week 6

A fun week in Year 3. The highlight of the week was the fun day on Friday. The children had a wonderful time on the go-karts, the bouncy castle, the obstacle course, face paints and glitter tattoos. Click here for photos Fun Day

On Tuesday, we were delighted to have a Tennis lessons with Mr Mills. The children were great in the very hot weather.

To end our Egyptian topic, the children learnt about Canopic jars and made some using clay. I was impressed at how artistic the children were. Next week, they will paint and glaze their jars.

In Religion, the children reflected on the story The Good Samaritan and thought about what we learn from this story. The children role played the story. In Ten Ten, we thought about situations where you feel care for and not cared for and how you can show care for others.

In Maths, we have been learning to tell the time using digital and analogue clocks. We also learnt the Roman numerals to 12 and made a clock with Roman numerals.

In English, we have been looking at advertisements and identifying the features of adverts. Next week the children will be filming their own advert to promote a product.

We have lots of talented musicians in our class. It was wonderful to listen to children sing, play the violin or the piano. Well done!

Please send in all reading books and reading records on Tuesday.

Home Learning – Please complete timetables rockstars for at least 10 minutes a day.

Well done to our top three children this week – Francine, Raylan and Chloe Aqunio who logged on at least 5 times this week. Who will be our champions next week?

Have a lovely weekend in the sunshine!

Mrs Carey
