The children in Year 4 looked very well after returning from their holidays. It has been lovely to hear about their trips and experiences during spending time with family and friends.

In Maths, the class moved on to formal written multiplication and division, building physical models and representing their calculations in different ways whilst in English, the children started their new unit of fiction genre; playscripts. They will write their scripts for a series of scenes using Mini Grey’s adaptation of the Adventures of the Dish and the Spoon.

In Re, we looked at the Resurrection according to Luke and drew beliefs from the Gospel, whilst also reading and understanding the post-Resurrection appearances of Jesus. Thank you so much for those who took the time to create their Easter Gardens; they look beautiful!

In Geography, they finished off their unit of the Sunshine State, looking at peninsulas and their features, whilst in Science, the children will carry on investigating electricity, conductors and insulators further this term. We also recorded our observation of our competition sunflowers; thank you again for those children who took care of the plants during the holidays. Our tallest is already 9.9cm!

In PE, the class enjoyed a lovely afternoon in the sunshine introducing their new topic: cricket. The children thoroughly enjoyed the different games and did very well and batting and fielding.

I am delighted to announce that I have managed to secure a class trip for us in the second half of the Summer Term when we are going to visit Waltham Abbey and partake in a whole day Tudor workshop in the Epping Forest District Museum including dressing up, artifact handling, a treasure trail and even using proper quills to create Tudor bookmarks. Details will be shared closer to the date.

Have a lovely weekend and Happy St George’s Day tomorrow,

Ms Varga

Summer Term Week 1 w.b. 18.04.2022

Happy Easter! I hope you all had a lovely break and it was lovely to see all the children back and ready for their last term in Year 1.

The children worked well together to transform our Lenten R.E. prayer space to reflect the white, gold and new life of Easter. They completed a retell on The Resurrection and took part in some fantastic role play.

In maths Year 1 have been learning to spell and order the days of the week and our quickest group was 14 seconds! Can you beat 14 seconds? Mathletics learning has been set to support this learning and I have sent home spellings and a prompt sheet for you reference so no need to return.

The children worked hard to  locating the countries and capital cities of The United Kingdom using an Atlas. We will be going on a local area walk next week (week after if weather is not good) so please may sure children come to school with a coat everyday.

Our phonic sounds learnt this week are:

  • Spelling Rule 32 – are ‘care and share’ share, dare, scare, square, bare spellingframe.co.uk
  • Spelling Rule 28 – au ‘Paul the Astronaut’ haunt, haunting, haunted, launch, launched, launching, haul spellingframe.co.uk
  • Tricky words to read and spell: Mrs, Mrs, here, could, asked, people + their, your

Our new P.E. unit is learning how to strike and field with different equipment and games. The children enjoyed being outside in the nice weather as they competed in groups to begin to learn the idea of striking and then running to score points.

We then had a final with two of the mini teams that won previously.

*Remember swimming starts next Wednesday and information can be found on the letter that was sent from the office. *

*P.E. kits can be worn Tuesday and Wednesdays from next week.*

*Inset Friday 29th April and Bank Holiday 2nd May*

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Lambie J

Thank you for the Easter Gardens!

Spring 2 Week 6

The end of another term! The children have worked hard this term and should be proud of themselves.

This week Year 3 took part in their first Stations of the Cross Service. The children sang beautifully.

In Religion, we listened to the story from Luke’s Gospel on the crucifixion and discussed what Luke wanted us to know about Jesus.

In Maths, the children have been using objects and drawing pictures to solve division calculations. In English, the children have been reading poems and identifying adverbs and prepositions. They wrote their own stanzas including adverbs and prepositions.

In PE, we have continued to move in different ways and balance on a variety of equipment.

Have a wonderful holiday!

Friday, 1st April 2022

Year 4 have had a busy last week to the end of the  Spring term and even in my absence, I know that they have worked very hard in class.

In Maths, they completed their fraction learning by applying all that they have learned in problem solving situations, using bar models to help them identify calculations. In English, they have used picture prompts to work on aspects of writing such as using conjunctions, adverbials and speech. In RE, they looked at St Luke’s Gospel and interpreted the meaning of the events of Good Friday whilst also concluding their Lenten reflections.

In Science, they investigated conductors and insulators to ‘fix’ simple series circuits whilst partaking in some fun pre-Easter activities, including card making.

On Tuesday evening, the children sang beautifully during the Stations of the Cross Service, elevating the serene and reverent atmosphere with their voices. A wonderful performance!

On Wednesday, after a lovely guitar concert led by our talented musicians Samuel and Panayiotis, the children received the Sacrament of Reconciliation from Fr Shaun and a visiting priest whilst reflecting on their ‘journeys’ as God’s Children.  Click here for some photo highlights from this week.

I am so proud of the class for their hard work and dedication this Term. They have achieved so many goals and matured even more in their independence and attitude towards their learning. Well done!

Wishing you all a blessed Easter and a well-deserved, restful holiday,

Ms Varga

Spring 2Week 6

The children have worked so hard this term and should be proud of themselves.

In Religion this week, we retold The Last Supper using Book Creator on the iPads and listened to the story from Luke’s Gospel about the crucifixion.

During PE we have used our communication skills to solve different problems and challenges.

We took part in an Easter egg hunt this morning, which was a lot of fun. Thank you for your Easter cards and gifts.

Have a lovely Easter break break

Miss Pringle.

Year 6 – 01/04/22

Wishing you all very Happy Easter!

Our final week of term has seen the conclusion of our English unit, for which the children have written fantastic non-chronological reports about their invented magical creatures. The week has also contained discussion and writing about who was responsible for Jesus’ death; Pilate, God, Adam & Eve, Jesus himself, and us as sinners were popular conclusions for who is most culpable.

On Tuesday night, Year 6 – along with the rest of KS2 – led a beautiful reflection on the Stations of the Cross at the church. Their acting and singing brought so much reverence to the story of Jesus’ final day, and I was so proud of them all.

This morning, some of the Year 6s led us once more in the final assembly of the term about Maundy Thursday.

And they made lovely Easter cards:

Thank you and well done for your hard work this term. Over the break, your home learning is an Easter Garden, as detailed below, and the maths.co.uk tasks set (your login details are stuck to the PGL envelope I gave out this afternoon).

See you on the 19th April.

Reception Week Beginning 28.3.22

Just like that, another term has flown past!

The children have been very busy finding out where our food comes from this week. Some children were very surprised to find out that meat comes from animals! As you sit down to dinner together, please reinforce this new learning by talking about where the food on their plate comes from.

Continuing on with the story focus- The Little Red Hen, the Reception children decided to create a new bakery role-play area. They made cakes and bread to sell, created appetising posters displaying prices and wrote down shopping lists.

Some children acted out the story after creating their own farm setting, using the large construction, props and small world animals.

The children have been working hard to learn their number bonds to ten this week. Please show your children this episode of Numberblocks on BBCiPlayer; it has a really catchy song they all seem to love.

Also, if you can, please let them have a go at this game too, in order to embed this new learning. Thank you!

How to make an Easter Garden.

You need:
* A shallow tray or dish *Garden soil or potting compost *Moss, cut grass or sand *Dried twigs *Sewing thread *Small pot *Flat stone large enough to cover the mouth of the pot *Egg cups (or other small containers) *Small flowers/plants *Gravel/stones/woodchip

To Make:
1. Fill the tray with soil or potting compost.
2. Arrange it to make a hill on one side of the tray.
3. Cover the soil with moss, grass or sand.
4. Make three crosses with dried twigs tied together with sewing thread and place on the hilltop.
5. Press the small pot into the hillside to make a cave like the garden tomb. Place the stone over the mouth of the tomb.
6. Press egg-cups full of water into the soil around the garden and fill with flowers/plant shrub in soil
7. Make a path coming from the tomb with gravel/stones/bits of tile, to show how the disciples ran to the tomb on Easter morning.
8. Early on Easter morning, move back the stone from the tomb, showing that it is empty.

Friday 1st April, 2022

This week, Year 5 have shone tremendously!  After working so hard on their readings for the Stations of the Cross service on Tuesday evening, they spoke so well at the church and many parents and parishioners praised them for their reverence and confidence.  Well done to all the children and thank you to parents for preparing them for this special service.  They worked hard during the practises in school and down at the church.

This morning for our whole school assembly, a group of the children read again to retell the story of the Last Supper.

On Wednesday some of the guitarists from the class – Albion, Eric, Finn, Leon and Max performed to the children in Years 3, 4 and 5 and the parents.  Click here to see photos of this. They performed with confidence and the children were really impressed watching them. Well done boys!

Following the guitar concert, the children received the sacrament of reconciliation after a class service led by Fr Shaun and a visiting priest.

This morning, the children also took part in an Easter Egg Hunt…click here to see how they found the hidden eggs!!

Spring Term Week 12 28.03.22

This week Year 1 began their new Geography unit on ‘Where do we live?’ They were surprised to find out that no everyone lives in Potters Bar!

Year 1 learned Luke’s Gospel scriptures for The Last Supper and Good Friday. They were very respectful as we learnt about Holy Week and Easter Sunday and how important this time of year is to our faith.

The children were excited to get to the end of their Phase 5 phonics learning and have been learning what the word ‘revision’ means. We will be revising all of the sounds learned after the Easter holidays.

The children enjoyed setting up their tuff spot for the season of Spring.

Please see today’s newsletter for a Whole School Home learning project for Easter.

Wishing you a restful Easter break and see you all on Tuesday 19th April for the start of our Summer Term!
