Summer 1 Week 7

Our final week of the half term saw us taking part in Spirituality Week. It was wonderful to spend time in the presence of God and reflect on the message of hope. One of the main highlights was sharing prayers with Year 1. I was incredibly proud of how Year 5 interacted with the younger children and flourished in their roles of responsibility. I have no doubt the will make excellent reading partners for Reception next year.

Year 6 lead us in some wonderful acts of reflection on Thursday. I am looking forward to seeing Year 5 take on this role next year.

Have a wonderful half term

Your child has made a prediction about what the mystery egg is. Research online or in books to see if the animal they predicted comes from an egg and print or draw a picture of the egg of their chosen animal.

Random Acts of Wildness

We are completing 30 days of wildness so we can appreciate the nature around us. Each day in June the children will complete a different activity.  Please try to do the first six activities in the half term and bring a photo of one of the activities to school.

1st June – Feel the wild between your toes – squelch your toes in sand, grass or mud.

2nd June – Look up at the clouds – What shapes can you see?

3rd June – Find a creepy crawly, be gentle and observe the way it moves.

4th June – Thread a daisy chain

5th June – Make a nature table, collect wild treasures like feathers, fossils or bones.

6th June – Have lunch in the wild.

Year 6 – 28/05/21

This week has been Spirituality Week, which has allowed the Year 6s to shine as leaders of our school. Highlights included making and exchanging butterflies with their Reception learning partners on Wednesday, and leading the prayer stations for the rest of the school yesterday. It has been a wonderful week to grow closer to God, and it has been fantastic to see you all completing the activities with such reflectiveness and prayerfulness.

Reception Week beginning 24.5.21

‘May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit’

Romans:15:13

This week, Reception became closer to God, by taking part in Spirituality Week, along with the rest of the school. The week’s activities had the overarching theme of ‘God of Hope’.

On Monday, the children made ‘Butterflies of Hope’ for their Year 6 prayer partners. These were exchanged later on in the week, when they spent some time sharing them with each other in the peace garden.

The children also created some art work symbolising ‘hope‘, for our church community; these will be given to Father Shaun to share.

On Thursday, the children were given the opportunity to reflect on ‘The God of Hope’ by participating in the prayer stations, set up and led by our wonderful Year 6. The class absolutely loved the experience!

This week, Reception also had an exciting problem to solve. Some large empty eggs had been found on the field by Mrs Lennox, yesterday morning! The children were invited to write down where they thought the eggs had come from and predict what had been inside! Maybe you saw them outside the Year One classroom today at home time. What do you think?

The school is completing 30 days of wildness, so we can appreciate the nature around us.

Each day in June the children will complete a different activity. If possible, please try to do the first six activities in the half term and bring a photo of one of the activities to school.

Friday, 28th May 2021

Year 4 had a truly fantastic finish to the first half of their Summer term. The children participated in daily activities inspired by ‘the God of Hope’ as part of their Spirituality Week. On Monday, they have created butterflies to a Prayer Partner in Year 3, whilst on Tuesday and Wednesday, they took part in prayer reflections and have written beautiful postcards to Members of our Community. On Thursday, they completed a carousel of Prayer Stations lead by the Year 6 Liturgy leaders. The sun came out just in time for the children to have a lovely, warm morning to think about Hope and prayer and to reflect on their role as ‘children of Hope’.

During the week, the children completed their last big narrative piece about a spy mission. Their stories are wonderful and I am very proud of them for having the stamina to write in such length and quality. Well done!

On Thursday, another interesting thing happened when two mysterious objects were brought into our classroom by Mrs Carey. The children had a great discussion about what it could be and where it could have come from. We finished Thursday with an exuberating Staggered Rounders match, which the children really enjoyed 😊

I want to say a huge thank you to the children for their hard work. Coming back from lockdown, to complete their first full half term was a big ask but they lived up to the expectations!

With the easing of the lockdown rules, I wish you all a lovely, restful holiday with your families,

Ms Varga and Mrs McNamara

Please see your Home Learning below:

  1. Please keep reading and updating your reading log. Mrs McNamara has already handed out quite a few reading awards but there are more to win!
  2. Please complete a research on the mysterious objects brought into our classroom yesterday. Some of you guessed that they might be animal eggs, some of you were more specific saying it could be a snake egg or a lizard egg. Please complete a short research about your ideas, collecting details about animals that lay eggs or maybe specific species. You could research animals that lay large eggs or create a collection of land, water and ‘sky’ animals that reproduce by laying eggs. Please be ready to present your research on the first day of the new term. It can include pictures (hand drawn or printed), paragraphs and bullet points of facts and information, maps of their habitat, diagrams of their diet, etc. Enjoy!

Week 7

A busy week in Year 1 again! To begin Spirituality Week, we had an assembly on Monday. Then we made butterflies with a prayer for our prayer partners in Year 5 and were delighted when we got to play with them. Next we made postcards to pray for people in our community and they were given to Father Shaun. On Thursday, we spent time at different prayer stations, led by Year 6.

In English, the children were excited about our story bags to support them when writing a story. They used a variety of adjectives and different sentence starters to make their stories exciting.

On Wednesday, we were excited when Mrs Lennox bought a package to the class. When we opened it, they were shocked and excited to find two eggs. The children thought of different questions they would like to ask and then they predicted what they thought they were. All the children suggested researching on the Internet or in non-fiction books to check if their predictions were correct.

In PE, we have continued to play cricket, the children have become more confident with the rules and their teamwork is amazing.

In Geography, we are learning about the seaside so the children painted pictures for a beautiful display in our classroom.

Year 2 Blog 28/05/2021

It has been another busy week in Year 2! The children took part in a number of activities linked to our Spirituality Week. The theme of our Spirituality Week this year was The God of Hope. The Prayer stations were organised by Year 6 and the children offered prayers through blowing bubbles, choosing a stone, creating a prayer chain for different countries and writing prayers for different people. Every day this week, the children have spent time reflecting on God’s presence and deepening their relationships with God.

In Science, we put our enquiry skills to good use with the delivery of some very interesting eggs. Year 2 posed lots of great questions and came up with some interesting predictions about these mysterious eggs.

Summer 1 Week 6

On Monday, we read about the events of Pentecost and imagined being the disciples. Year 5 then write diary entries in role as one of Jesus’ followers telling how it felt to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

We have come a long way with our division this week and can now express remainders as decimals and fractions. Our English narratives have been written up and we have created questions and comments we could add to letters to MPs Grant Shapps and George Eustice regarding the HS2.

In PE, Year have been developing their jumping for distance.

Have a wonderful weekend

Reception Week Beginning 17.5.21

If you’re in trouble, then look no further…. call the Reception team of superheroes!!!

This week, Reception have been having lots of fun pretending to be superheroes. They each created their own superhero name and wrote about what their special superhero power is. They then acted out their character in the new superhero headquarters! The children have enjoyed listening to superhero stories this week, these include: Traction Man, Supertato, Charlie’s Superhero Underpants and Zippo the Super Hippo.

Next week, Reception will be focussing on real life superheroes.

In Religion this week, the children learnt about Pentecost.

They looked at different paintings depicting the story and then created their own pictures. The children also made Pentecost kites which they flew outside in the wind!

In Maths, the children have been focussing on addition, and have made up their own addition stories using the language ‘first, then, now’ to retell them.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend,

The Reception Team
