Autumn 1 Week 6

In maths this week, we have begun learning about negative numbers. The children have been counting forwards and backwards across 0 and reading a range of negative number scales. In English, Year 5 have been improving their grammar and punctuation skills by using modal verbs, punctuating dialogue and varying sentence starters. These will be put to good use next week when we write our end of unit narrative set on a river.

In PE, we have begun looking at invasion games. Our focus this week was football. In the final two weeks, we will be doing rugby and hockey. It was great to take part in karate again this on Wednesday and learn new poses.

We had a wonderful time outside. Unfortunately, as the light drizzle turned to rain, we made our way inside.

Have a wonderful weekend

Year 6 – 09/10/20

This week, Year 6 started writing their narratives based on the whole-school text, River Story. Each day, they have been excited to write the next section to their story, so I am looking forward to reading them once they have been edited and written up in neat next week. This has linked to our geography topic on rivers, where this week we discussed physical geographical features of rivers.

In PE, the children have been practising jumping and had their second session in karate.

In Wellbeing this week, Year 6 found sticks upon which they attached bits of nature that they felt inspired by.

Year 2 Blog 09-10-2020

What an action packed week it has been in Year 2! The highlight of our week was definitely our walk to Mimmshall Brook. We were blessed with a beautiful morning. With our wellington boots on, we made our way along muddy paths and ploughed fields until we reached the babbling brook. The water was crystal clear and Year 2 delighted in watching the stream flow under the beautiful old bridge. The children were wonderful ambassadors for our school and they were very responsible on our walk.  Next week we will begin writing our River stories as part of our whole school writing project. Watch this space!

Week 6

We’ve had an action packed week in Y3! During RE we have looked at the symbols and actions used during Mass, while in Maths we have been estimating where to place numbers on number lines. Next week we will be looking at units of measurement.

We have used various painting techniques to create beautiful mountain and river paintings. I have been very impressed with the control the children have shown when painting. I am also really pleased with the story writing in Y3 this week – they have included prepositions, adjectives, noun phrases and verbs to interest the readers attention – well done Y3.

Year 4 Assembly 9th October 2020

Dear Parents,

On Monday, Year 4 led the school in a wonderful assembly about the Rosary.

Please watch the video below for the Year 4 Assembly and the presentation of this week’s Gold Awards and Head Teacher Awards.

Year 1 Week ending Friday 9th October

It has been an exciting week in Year 1 with a visit from Father Shaun on Tuesday. Father Shaun spoke to the class about baptism and then the children had great fun baptising babies, making baptismal candles and writing about the event. Karate followed on Wednesday; Michael our instructor was very impressed with the concentration and focus of the children. Well done!
As Mrs Carey is not able to be in school at the moment, Year 1 have been taught by members of the senior Leadership Team; Mrs Joyce, Miss Pemberton, Mrs McNamara and myself supported by our Learning Support assistants, Mrs Vieyra and Mrs Hilton. It was a joy to explore our River story book with the class on Thursday. We focussed on what they could see out of the window and then they explored what they would like to see out of their own windows at home. Some created a seaside scene and others built lego houses, snowy mountains and planes!
Please enjoy the photos! Have a lovely weekend! We are missing you Mrs Carey!!

Prayer

Find somewhere quiet to sit and as you make the sign of the cross, remember that Jesus loves you very much.
Before you listen to this song, ‘Share the Light of Jesus’ think about how you can share Jesus’ light today in all that you say and do.
Finish your quiet time by saying the mission prayer:

We believe that we are all God’s work of Art.
We strive to respect and care for each other and to use our talents to do our best.
By doing this, we are learning in the light of Christ.
Amen.

Wider Curriculum In our Geography Topic , we have looked at the features of Megacities. We looked at both human and physical geography of cities such as:

Tokyo, New York, Delhi, Mumbai, Karachi, Dhaka and Beijing.

Today, your task is to use Secondary Sources to research one of these megacities.

Create a report using non-fiction genre features such as bullet points, headings, subheadings, maps, keys, pictures, labels and captions.

Include information on the location of the city, the size and population of this city. . You may want to report on the most important buildings/sites/attractions in or near this city. Other ideas for you to research are finding details on physical geography (mountains, rivers, etc.,) weather, languages used, currency, main religion. and finding out about this city’s import and export goods.

Try and draw conclusions as to why would so many people choose to live in this particular city. What features are there to support mass living?

Use Computing tools if possible; a Popplet, a PowerPoint presentation, a Word document.
