Year 4 have had yet another very busy week.

Children built on their understanding of Place Value and started investigating 4 digit numbers in Maths using different models. They played a strategic game using a dice each to create numbers; a game they enjoyed very much!

In English we carried on looking at sentences, identifying nouns, verbs and descriptive phrases and also looked at ways of extending sentences by using conjunctions.

Children played skill based games in PE to further practice their chest push, whilst they looked at plants in Science and drew observational drawings.

Children took part in Acts of Worship and carried out Mental Health activities as well.

We used different media to create cards this week where children had opportunities to look at and try out different fonts, think about proportions and explore the use of water-colour paint.

The children are doing very well when it comes to following our hand-washing regime and they worked really hard all week to settle into class routines and to take pride in their presentation and learning. Well done!

Please look out for awards in the News Letter!

Have a lovely weekend,

Week 3

A busy week in Year 1. In Literacy we have been practising letter formation and writing words with the phase 3 sounds. I was pleased with how hard the children worked at learning their spellings. We continued reading the Monkey Puzzle and made a big story map for our display.

In Numeracy we have been ordering numbers and finding one more and one less. The children have been adding using a variety of resources.

In Science we have been naming, labelling and describing body parts. We went out in our outdoor area and made colour pallets with different flowers to show the colours of summer.

In Religion we thought of actions and words to welcome people. We had lovely smiles, waves and kind words in our class.

In PE we have continued to practice throwing and catching and related these skills to different games. In groups, the children were very creative making up their own games.

Year 2 Blog Week 2

Our second full week in Year 2 has flown by!

This week in Religion we started our unit – Beginning with the Church. The children thought about what it means to belong and how we make people feel welcome. Year 2 created some very special stained glass butterflies for a school Year of Hope display.

In English we continued work on our poetry unit. The children created some fantastic list poems all about autumn which were full of amazing adjectives. This week enjoyed the story of The Twits by our author of the month. Roald Dahl’s writing is providing us with plenty of great adjectives to use in our own writing.

In Science we created some beautiful natural colour palettes. Nature is full of a wonderful array of colours that change over the course of the year through the four seasons. The children had great fun selecting their colours from all the plants and flowers in the school gardens.

In P.E. this week we had great fun playing different ball games and testing our reactions.

Year 6 – 18/09/20

We have been out enjoying the sun this week, with lots of outdoor science learning. The children investigated how different exercise affected their heart rate, and also made the most of the allotment area and investigated “What has been eating our plants?”

In PE, we have been getting our sweat on and improving our stamina and endurance, whilst in this week’s Wellbeing session we took the time to take notice and appreciate the beauty of our school grounds.

It really has been a lovely week and, as always, well done and thank you for your hard work Year 6.

Have a great weekend.

Year 5 Term 1A Overview

Year 6 – 11/09/20

This morning, Year 6 were lucky enough to go on retreat at the church. The morning began with Mass, continued with a reflection led by Fr Shaun on the Beatitudes, and was followed by group work in their houses in which they discussed the leadership qualities of their house saints and came up with ways that they could impart these qualities and values in their own leadership roles back at Pope Paul. The beautiful way in which the children conducted themselves during the Mass, combined with their participation and sharing of ideas during the discussions made it a privilege to be a part of. Well done, Year 6 – you are without doubt going to make fantastic leaders this year.

In other news this week, we began our Science topic on the circulatory system and keeping healthy. We learnt about the key components of the circulatory system and acted the system out on the field, with children being the heart, the lungs, red blood cells and muscles of the body.

In English, we focused on the essentials of sentence writing, in Maths we began with place value, in Music we learnt about beat and syncopation, in Geography we began our topic on rivers, and in PE we practised catching small balls.

Year 2 Blog Week 1

It has been a busy first week of learning in Year 2. In Religion we thought about our hopes for this new school year and the children created a beautiful display for our sacred space in the classroom.

In Maths we have been looking at number and place value. In English we have been learning about different types of poems. The Year 2 Author of the Month is the very talented Roald Dahl. So far we have enjoyed reading the wonderful Esio Trot and marvelled at the tale of The Magic Finger We have now moved onto FANTASTIC Mr Fox.. We had great fun performing and reciting Roald Dahl’s wonderful poem, The Crocodile and the children created some magnificent Crocky-Wock headbands to wear while performing the poem.

In Science, the children delighted in using the iPads in our school allotments to record all the different parts of a plant.

Our first full week back at school in Year 4  has been very busy. The children practised their handwriting and started working on their first set of spelling words. (Please see the list of these words below in their Home Learning tasks.)

They have looked at ways of welcoming people as part of their RE learning and put their learnt ideas in practice when welcoming their new classmate Samuel. We hope he will have a lovely time in Year 4!

In Maths, the children looked at different representations of numbers using Dienes equipment, place value counters and written models. Well done! I saw some very flexible counting skills!

We also looked at parts of a sentence and labelled compound and complex sentences in English. We started learning about types of inquiries in Science and looked at Mega Cities as part of their Autumn Term Geography unit.

In PE, the children also started working on their throwing and catching skills.

Our Class Act of Worship (thank you to Kate who took these photos and to Sophie who set out the special cloths and items to assist with our prayers).

The children working hard during their Maths Lesson on a Challenge involving three digit numbers.

Please see your Home Learning below that needs to be completed  by Tuesday 15th September 2020.
