Year 2 Blog Week 37

Who rocks the house?
There were lots of cheerleaders on hand this year to warm-up for Sports Day 2019! Following a fabulous dance routine Year 2 took to the field to take part in the KS1 Sports Day. The children showed off their throwing skills at the beanbag station and there was plenty of concentration required for the egg and spoon race. The children conveniently finished up at the refreshment station where they enjoyed some refreshing orange slices. Congratulations to St. Bernadette House, the overall winners of KS1 Sports Day 2019.

One of the highlights  of the week was harvesting our potatoes and onions. We had a bumper crop of potatoes and our onions were enormous!

After digging up our potatoes and onions there was only one thing left to do…. get them into the oven to roast! They were delicious!!!!

Have a lovely weekend!

Sports Day

Well done to all of Year 5 for their great effort on sports day. They gave every event all they had and supported their classmates brilliantly. It was a great day and it was wonderful to see so many of you at the picnic. Thank you to Mr Lyons for going in goal and allowing Year 5 the chance to enjoy the football event even more. Home learning has finished for the year. Please could all CGP maths and Schofield and Simms English Skills books be returned to school.

Have a great weekend

What a fun week we have had!  On Tuesday the children were excellent in the KS1 sports day! They took part in an egg and spoon race, a sprint, football, jumping and throwing. Overall St Bernadette‘s house won. After the children enjoyed a picnic with their families.

Mrs Joyce showed us some beautiful flowers from her garden and we painted them.

In Computing we are learning about programming. We gave

instructions to direct each other.

Have a lovely weekend.

Reception- Summer 2 Week 5

Reception class have taken full advantage of the glorious weather and spent most of it learning outdoors this week; they have been very busy weeding the class flower bed and planting the sunflowers that they have grown from seeds. The children have also spent time practising for sports day next Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Reception joined the rest of the school in watching the Year 6 production. They thought it was fantastic and were so excited and proud to see their learning partners up on the stage! As a result of this, lots of the children  spent the rest of the week on the EYFS outside stage, dancing and singing songs from the show. In fact, their child initiated learning  has been so heavily influenced by the production, that Year 6 gave the children a mini drama workshop on Friday afternoon.

Next week, we will be collecting in all reading books. Please have a look around your home for any stray books, as we seem to be very low on yellow level in particular. Thank you.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the Strawberry Fayre!

05/07/19 – Year 6 Production

Wow Year 6! You well and truly outdid yourselves last night! That was a phenomenal performance of We Go Together, with each of you acting, singing and dancing your hearts out. Thank you for giving it your everything and for putting on an unforgettable night. I will certainly always remember that performance.

5th July, 2019

This week, we spent time preparing for Sports Day and learning our Sports Day dance. In English, the children continued planning and writing their Roman Helmet narratives. In Maths we have been working on conversion in time (minutes and seconds etc..) and this afternoon we were visited by the Science Ambassadors from Dame Alice Owen’s school who led us in practical science investigations.  The children thoroughly engaged with the activities.

See you at the Summer Fayre!

Date for your diary:  Thursday 18th July.

Year 4 will be visiting the Verulamium Museum in St Albans.

Meet 8am at the school.

Summer 2 Week 5

It has been a very busy week in Year 5! The main highlight had to be our Pilgrimage to Aylesford Priory. On arrival, we were given a tour by a Carmelite Friar where we saw beautiful chapels and peaceful surroundings. Fr Francis spoke about the history of the friary and pointed out a stone that had been blessed by St Paul VI. After our tour, we took part in mass. The children sang beautifully and were reverent throughout. It was then time for lunch where we could enjoy the beautiful weather. Our final activity of the day saw us thinking about our house saints as leaders, and how year 5 could use their example to lead the school in Year 6. The children behaved wonderfully and were commended by a member of the public who was visiting. Well done, Year 5. We would like to thank Michael for visiting us during the week to prepare for our visit and reflect on it after. We would also like to thank Fr Shaun for organising the pilgrimage.

This afternoon we were visited by science ambassadors from Dame Alice Owen’s school. We took part in practical investigations that taught us about what conditions in space are like and how we protect ourselves from UV rays.

Well done to our guitarists who performed for us this morning. It is always wonderful to hear the progress they are making.

There is no home learning this week. I hope to see you all at the strawberry fayre.

Year 2 Blog Week 36

This week in R.E. we have been learning about the Cardinal Virtues. The children created some beautiful mobiles to display the Virtues and thought carefully about the symbols they used to represent the different virtues.
We have made the most of the beautiful weather this week with plenty of outdoor learning. Year 2 have been watering the vegetable plots and observing how much our sunflowers have grown.  We  are  looking  forward  harvesting  our  crops  next  week  and  creating  some  healthy  dishes!
Year 2 are sew amazing! Everybody has been working very hard on their needlework pieces and the designs are coming along very nicely!

Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy all the fun of the fayre.

Summer 2 Week 5

We have been keen gardeners this week, ensuring our potatoes and sunflowers are watered and weeded. We have also created Bible Story Boxes in D&t and used them to retell the parable of the Good Samaritan. Sadly we said goodbye to Miss Rolle on Wednesday but we wish her well in her first teaching post this September.

No home learning has been set across the school this week – we hope you enjoy the Strawberry Fayre.
