Potters Bar Carnival

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us in our school walking float on Sunday at the Potters Bar Carnival. It was a wonderful occasion and a witness to the fantastic parent support for our school. The children looked wonderful in their costumes and well done to the parents and teachers who truly reflected the work of the NHS! It was great to gain First Place!

Reception- Summer 2 Week 1

It was lovely to welcome the children back after the half term break!

In RE, Reception have been learning about Pentecost. After hearing the story, looking at artwork and then watching a short film clip, the children made their own tongues of fire, retold and painted the story and used ribbons to move like the Holy Spirit in the outdoor learning environment.

The class also began their new learning focus, ‘Mini-beasts’ and enjoyed hearing the story ‘The Bad-tempered Ladybird’. Many of the children used the themes of the story to influence their Child Initiated Learning.

In Maths, we have been learning how to double, halve and share different amounts of objects.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the carnival!

Summer 2 Week 1

During the first week back, we have learnt how to calculate area. We began with recliner shapes and even managed to find a break in the rain on Tuesday afternoon to measure some of the playground. We were then able to calculate the area of places like the peace garden and the netball court.

In English, we have finished our Odysseus adventures and are now writing them up in neat. Year 5 have created some wonderful pieces that showcase all of the skills they have learnt this year, well done, Year 5!

In RE we have been discussing Pentecost. We looked at the Jewish festival of Shavu’ot, which is also known as Pentecost, yet it is a very different celebration. We were very lucky that Michael, our seminarian, was able to join us for a prayer session based on Pentecost.

Today the wet weather kept us indoors fro PE. This week, Coach Dugan helped us improve our athletic abilities in jumping, throwing and general fitness.

Have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing you at the carnival.

Summer 2 Week 1

We have been very active and creative this week in Y3. In PE (tennis) we have learnt how to volley and in athletics we have been learning how to jump in different ways.

We have applied glaze to our Egyptian plates and are looking forward to seeing the finished products next week. We are also excited to see how tall our newly planted sunflowers become and I’m happy to report that our potatoes are looking very healthy!

The children have worked hard during maths to develop their arithmetic skills and in English they have written very clear instructions for mummifying – watch out!

In RE we have focused on Pentecost and the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

We are looking forward to our class Mass next Wednesday and hope to see many of you there.

Also, the children took responsibility for the props and learning to some of the children shared another language with us – ‘thank you’ to everyone involved. We hope they have enjoyed their share of the birthday cake 🙂

Summer 2nd Half- Week 1

A busy week back after half term! In Religion we have been learning about the story of Pentecost. The children acted out the story, made hats and flames. Then they retold the story.

In Maths we have been comparing numbers and finding the difference using resources and drawing pictures.

In Science we planted sunflower seeds and lettuce and we have been learning about how we can help them to grow. The children observe their seeds each day to see if they have grown.

Have a lovely weekend
